"Except there is. I can feel you pulling away from me, more and more each day. And I don't have the right any longer to pull you back." He didn't know how long they'd been together, but it felt like decades, he'd gotten used to so many little things which still bothered him. He'd had to stop splitting the laundry, just to leave Melvin something to do, so they could competitively see whose choice of detergents got things cleaner. He'd had to stop a lot of things, a lot of trivial tiny things which hadn't mattered in the day to day but which mattered now in a hundred little ways.
He exhaled, looking oddly defeated, unable to articulate his feelings, if that was what they even were, too used to setting everything, every issue, every single thought which didn't align with how he wanted to be far away as if it was some persona he didn't use. Lawrence wouldn't do this, he thought, Lawrence wouldn't care about this, so he did not.
"None of this is Rodney's fault." he said.

Melvin shook his head. "No. He didn't know any better, and he still had his own feelings and wants. Blame seems kinda pointless. We all kinda...let this all happen in one way or another."
He took a sip of his coffee and wished he had added some more sugar for once. "What she means is ....I don't think I can deal seeing you two together. It's different than when you said you would still be with other people aside from me. I didn't have to see it. I don't think I can stand seeing it."

Lawrence looked grim still. "Oh." he said. "Yes, if that's the case, I'll certainly keep him away from you, I won't make you see anything you don't want to see. I don't want to distress you. He's very private anyway as I guess you know. I'm more extroverted." For a given value of extroverted anyway.
He exhaled in an exasperated sigh. "I really do miss you though. I know it can't be changed but I just wish it had turned out another way."
He was relieved Saliva had stopped butting in at the very least.
