“Ancestor?” Nick blinked and looked at the frozen nugget in his arms. “What do you mean by that? You have a...a ghost that follows you around? Whaaaat?”
Now that was one of the craziest things he had ever heard...like, bar none.
“What...I don’t even understand what you’re talking about? I mean, I had like, a few odd visions while I was up here, but I’ve never met any ghosts...that’s wild! I’d love to meet...him? Her? Whoever or whatever it is someday, if you’d ever like to take me to Newgrange…”
He hoped he would. He really did.
“Well, you can come up here whenever and we can get used to the cold together, if you’d like?”
The blonde nodded to a part of the wall that was still covered in rocks. “That’s my next project. Moving all of those rocks and seeing where that opening leads, see how you can see some space there? I’m sure it goes somewhere...and it would be nice to have more to show off then just this one little--but awesome room.”
Brushing his lips over Arias’s he murmured, voice gentle and rather soothing. “You warming up okay, sweetheart? I’m sorry I sprung that cold on you without warning…

Arias tried not to seem too needy when Nick's lips brushed his own, but it was a difficult battle to show want, but not be obnoxious about it. "It's not the worst thing anyone's ever sprung on me. I like your wonder, the cold was worth it to see those mountains." He smiled. "And it's warmer in here, it's not so bad. Especially with you working so hard to keep me warm."
Nick's voice was so soft and nice; it washed over Arias like a warm shower. It was warming him up inside; outside was still cold, so he just wriggled a bit closer.
"I hope there's something neat back there. Being here sort of makes me want to get you some hot chocolate to take with you before you head up here again. If you bring me, I'll try to help." As if dreading his words were too needy, he insisted, "But only if you want the company. I know that sometimes these things are easier to do when you can work by yourself and have a clear mind. Especially if you have to deal with odd visions. I don't have that problem, but...ah," he sighed and seemed a little disappointed.
"The Ghost at my Wonder keeps trying to kick me out. I don't know anything about him except that he keeps telling me to leave and glaring at me when I show up. So I've...really just...been avoiding my Wonder."
He sounded disappointed and ashamed but tried not to dwell on it. "I'd love to introduce you if I thought he'd approve of anything I did. But he'd probably just ignore us or tell me to leave again."

“I need your help. I want to spend time with you, and I want to get things moving up here...so maybe...maybe if you wanted we could spend a week or so up here? We could get so much done, I know it...It would be great. Besides, you’re due for a nice long vacation…”
He listened to the bit about the ghost and frowned, wrinkling his nose. “Well, I’m really glad I don’t have anything like that here...I don’t think I would be too happy if I had someone here telling me to get out...this is my space. I protect this space…”
Nick paused, looking at Arias and capturing his lips again, being as tender as he could.
“Just like Newgrange is your place. Your haven of refuge. This...ghost or whatever has to realize that you are the protector of the wonder now, it’s your responsibility, and you fully intend to take it. Don’t let someone from the past push you around, you…”
He laughed. “I mean you’re the one who’s alive after all!”

A worn smile appeared on Arias' face and he shrugged. "I don't know, he's been up there protecting it for a while. I get the argument--he has a right to be there, I guess. He seems to know so much more about Newgrange. I don't even know where to start. The most I found was my ring, and...even then it's because he gave it to me. To make me go away," he sighed again.
He wasn't a very good Knight. He tried--but he felt like he was trudging through chest deep mud. Being a Knight, being Arias. Being on Newgrange, being on Earth. There was a crushing pressure on his chest and no matter what he did, it just wouldn't go away.
Thoughtlessly, he rubbed at his chest for a second before his attention returned to the topic.
"A vacation, though? I don't know if I'd know what to do with myself. I sort of imagined a little more sun in my vacation, but..."
He looked at Nick and flashed a little smile. "I guess you're sunshine enough."
When he wanted to be, at least.
Spending time with him like this was nice--this made him feel like things really were okay.
This was all he wanted, anyway.

Nick flushed at that statement, and he even spluttered for a second. “Oh...You..ahaha…” He swallowed and gave a sheepish smile. “You’re saying I’m your sunshine?” Well that was just too cute for words...and...and it made his heart flutter.
Nick hadn’t felt that feeling because of Arias in a long while. “Well...thank you...I uh…”
He seemed so flustered now off kilter. “I found my ring up here because a cat told me too. His name’s Snowball and I guess he belongs to my Princess? To Polaris. I don’t know. He’s cute, but kind of annoying. Pushy. Like, do this, do that, all hail Polaris...I don’t know. I’m just not i to my Princess that much. I met her once...wasn’t really impressed.”
Absent mindedly, he began to stroke Arias’s back again, slow, lazy circles.
“I love you...I really am sorry for being distant...I didn’t mean to…”

"My only Sunshine," Arias found himself mumbling, closing his eyes when Nick began to draw circles on his back. He didn't like to think about Nick being with other people, especially when Nick was the only person he was seeing.
...But that was awhile ago, Nick was done with that. They'd worked that out, so it wasn't even something Arias needed to worry about.
He thought about talking about Mauvians, or Princesses--or his lack of one--but all those thoughts were chased from his mind when Nick apologized.
He cracked an eye, trying to figure out how to respond. Nick was in a totally different mood than the other night; he was easier to talk to now. He just didn't want to make the mistake of saying something foolish and ruining such a nice night.
Arias found himself nodding slightly while he stalled for time. "I love you, too. I...am sorry that I pushed so hard. You're an adult, I know that. You're allowed to be distant if you want." His eyes had drifted away again, but he figured he could hide that by closing them and just focusing on how good it felt to have Nick rubbing his back. "...But if you ever want to talk, I'm here. I'm just...going to try harder not to be so overbearing. I'm really going to work on not being so annoying."
There was no sarcasm; Arias wasn't trying to pick a fight. He still just wanted things to be okay. He didn't want to lose this. Tonight was a good night. He didn't want to ruin that.

“You were worried about me. About us. You didn’t do anything irrational…” Nicks lips were once again on Arias’s as he spoke, the words coming out as barely a whisper.
“This was all me. I was in a funk...or something. I don’t know. All I know is I was being a complete jerk...and I made you sad...and I’m very sorry…”
He liked this. This talking was nice and easy, even if he wasn’t really saying anything, he was at least...apologizing. And that had to mean something to Arias...right? “You’re my sunshine too...you make me happy when skies are grey…”
He pulled away from Arias and simply looked at him, smiling slightly. “I’m so glad you came here with me tonight.

Arias wore a small smile, still looking up at Nick. It wasn't just that the Wonder was amazing, it was that it felt like it used it. Nick wasn't acting weird or avoiding him--he seemed happy.
So when Nick was happy that he was here, Arias could only say, "I am, too."
The knot in his stomach had unwound a bit, and his chest didn't feel like it had the weight of the world slamming down on it.
It had just been a bad night. Nick was in a funk; it happened sometimes. And he had apologized--that meant it couldn't have been all Arias' fault? It couldn't have been just him?
He could accept that.
It didn't mean he had any answers and it didn't resolve his suspicion that Nick was hiding something from him, but he couldn't bring himself to ask. Not here, not now. He'd messed that up once, and he'd rather keep his silence and get used to it than have to deal with fighting with Nick.
Maybe things were okay.
And if they weren't, maybe one day Nick would be able to open up to him.
He leaned up to give him a quick kiss, but it was short lived and he found himself quickly pulling the blankets over their heads and curling up closer to the man next to him.
