He'd started to assure her about Castor's whereabouts, but even when addressing children, he preferred not to lie. For all he knew, the cat could very well be shivering outside in the cold - good riddance, as far as he was concerned. The feline was a pest at best and it served him to be taken down a notch and locked out of the warm house for one evening.
But he wouldn't tell her that.
"You don't need me to protect you from bad dreams, sweetheart." The hand that tucked her hair back moved to readjust the blanket as he rose from where he sat. "You're strong enough to fight off the monsters on your own - princesses are very powerful people too, you know."
Leaning down, he pressed a chaste kiss against her forehead before pulling away into a final bow. "But I will be there, regardless. Now, off to begin your next dream adventure - I will see you shortly."
Then, with a wave of his hand, the Guardian teleported out of the room, back to the warm sanctity of his Elysion home. He'd admit, he only did it for dramatic effect, but the smile spread across his mouth was caused only by the precious little human that had clearly decided to look up to him.
As if encouraged to continue his duty, the young man descended into the cool water, which swirled and lit up with sparkling blue colors as he began sifting through various dreams to protect.
