Assured that they were safe, even for just the moment, Alkaid visibly relaxed back to her neutral, passive state. She stayed closer to Adamantine than she had before the none-too-gentle reminder of a corrupt's place in the rift and swept her eyes out beyond their pathway, looking to the far distances now to make sure they were not attracting any other unwelcomed guests. It drew her attention away from Ada a fraction but she was still listening and still very much aware of the presence next to her.

"Mmm," she made the sound before her mind had finished processing the question, then offered her a soft, telling laugh that she hoped was more reassuring than her words would be. "That's definitely because of you - I have had it happen once before with another, stronger corrupt. They do not fear you at all and sometimes do not notice my presence until I make it known."

There was a pause in her words as her attention drifted back out and away from the younger woman before she admitted, at last, "but there are some that challenge me, deeper in. They challenge everyone."

It was not long after her words left her lips that she knew they were close to the hollowed tree and her step, though nothing changed about her outward calm, was a bit more hurried. It seemed like ages since Alkaid had happened upon Labyrinthite at what appeared to be a memorial of his own making but as it came into view, it appeared relatively unchanged - the gnarled tree and the blasted land remained just where he had left it though he was, unsurprisingly, no where to be seen.

Maybe the ascendant had never expected to find him there at all because Alkaid's eyes were not looking at the ground but, instead, up at the withered branches for something else.

Alkaid and her charge would not find the general they were seeking and while she found the tree that he always seemed to gravitate towards, the scene would imply that nothing - human or monster - had been near in weeks; perhaps even months.

Skeletal limbs stretched upward towards the sky the Rift seemed to offer the place, bones twisted and warped in a manner that suggested that the tree was once a person who had been twisted, corrupted until they were rooted in place and only their skeleton remained. Etched into the bones were talon marks, where the sharp claws had dug in and some of the branches hung lower than the others like they had been weighted down by something too often.

The pair of woman - though it was debatable if Alkaid could be called a woman with her unaging, inhuman body - would find that they had to wait some time before a caw could be heard in the distance.

Alkaid would recognize the youma, the same one that seemed to watch her and the missing general when she had found him standing before the very same tree.

The bird was large, bone branch creaking beneath it's weight as all four of their wings settled against their large frame. Six red eyes blinked like a shutter, head twisting so it was half upside down. "What are you looking for Alice?" The bird asked.

"I see. Then youma are really not fond of the senshi of the negaverse." That was a shame to be honest. She did not find herself thinking of the side of order, and to be treated second handly was hard to handle. What would happen when she would come here in search of Laby by herself? It wouldn't be possible.

"The greater youma?" Adamantine had only heard of whispers of those creatures. They were youma that were more powerful then generals, who couldn't escape the rift like prison for the sheer havoc they would wrought on the Earth.

Adamantine didn't have long to linger on the thought as Alkaid's steps felt more rushed, as if they were close to their destination. There was a gnarled tree that looked bleak and stark in the rift, though she didn't know why it held such special meaning to the general. Disappointment did etch the stardust corrupts face, only because she had hoped that perhaps...Laby would magically be there. He was look at her and say 'You've found me Little Star.'....but that was not the case.

The arrival of the youma had the girl drawing back and closer to Alkaid, should it attempt an attack on her. Her hand was held up just in case as well though she did not want to ruin the reputation that Alkaid had garnered here.

The name the bird spoke was odd, and at first she looked for another with the pair, but it was just her and Alkaid, her chin tipping up at the taller woman with a look of curiosity.

"Clever."

The little girl that was too far down the rabbit's hole.

Alkaid was aware of the eyes on her in the silence that followed her own voice - the two that swung up at her, cool and easy in Adamantine's pale face and then the six red ones that watched her askew from a tilted head, glowing like burning coals against his jet black feathers. Alkaid knew this beast to be much more than simply clever. A rigidity had pulled her shoulders tight the moment his caw resonated through the air and it remained, now, as she tried her best to keep eye contact with six beady oculi. If she was Alice, who was he?

With nothing to warn Adamantine to stay close except her hovering hand near the girl's lower back, the shattered woman drew herself from her thoughts and moved closer to the tree so that she could look up at him. Unlike her attempts at addressing people, her words were not accompanied by a show of kindness or an attempt to make herself appear more life-like than she was to this creature.

"I think you know very much what I am looking for or you would not be here, would you?"

The bright, glowing embers of her own eyes fluttered while they glanced from eye to eye to eye as if she might catch the truth in them if only she could look quickly enough. Humans were easy creatures to read, but youma? They were much harder. They did not think like humans or work like humans, they did not have the same drives. They did not smile or laugh just to hear the sound. So, the question was - what was this bird's motivation? Why did he come back here to this place?

The Ascendant General could not offer Adamantine any reassurances here apart from the safety of her presence, this was their only hope at getting any information at all.

"Do you know where the Reaper is?"

If birds could smile, this one would be and sharp teeth would glisten in the artificial lighting of the rift.

"Clever is the girl who donned the armor, rode the jabberwocky." Red eyes seemed to zero in on the energy that seeped out of Alkaid's skin. Beak snapped and the head twisted 360 before half of it's eyes turned towards the waify star senshi. "Foolish is the mouse who strays from the hatter." Eyes blinked in rapid succession, always two watching the senshi.

Two of it's wings spread out, feathers shaking.

"That's the question, Alice." If it had eyebrows they would have been lifted. Instead, wings folded back against it's frame and it took to preening itself. "What is anyone looking for?" It's head tipped back and hallow laughter sprung out of it's mouth.

"He's gone, Alice. Lost in wonderland."
