Vodyanoi almost blushed to hear Juno speak about music like that. He’d often thought the same thing… as did the rest of the troupe, although they didn’t seem to think themselves responsible for spreading it out across the world.
On the subject of money, he tapped his lips thoughtfully.
“That’s an idea. And you’re probably right… except I’ve always been awful with money! I spend it as soon as I get it. That’s why I haven’t got a dime on me right now! I had some savings when I got ready to leave the troupe and I spent it all on trinkets. I figured I’d need all this Matori get-up to really sell myself over in Zena or something, and I wouldn’t be able to find anything I needed way out there. But now, well, I’m dead broke. How am I supposed to hold on to piles of riches?”

“Well… that’s something else you’ll have to learn, then.” Juno quirked his eyebrows, shooting a glance down at the costume bits and decorations that Vodyanoi had apparently spent all his money on. As someone who had been saving every penny he could bear for the last year or so, he sure had something to say about that!
“It took me almost a year just to save for this cart, you know. I worked at a bakery, loading flour and selling bread at the market and all that. Had to pay for a little apartment, groceries to feed myself… and of course I wasn’t going to give up every pleasure in my life. I went out, meeting people, drinking, all that. But I had to limit what I spent, and put away the rest. You’ve just got to stop thinking about all your money as something you can use. Think of… some small part of it as spending money, and the other part’s to tuck away somewhere safe. Just mind that you watch out for bandits!”

“Yup, bandits.” Juno shrugged, almost sighing himself. After his own awful experience with bandits, he was just about praying he wouldn’t fall victim again himself. “You’ll have to watch out for them. Best advice I can figure is… keep an ear open, listen out when you’re in towns to find out where the rough areas are… and if you can afford it, hire an escort. Most of them are cowards, they won’t strike if you’ve got a guard with you. And if you hear about those that do, well… you’d be best to try and avoid those altogether.”
Then, seeing Vodyanoi’s downward glance, he shrugged and gave the guy an encouraging nudge.
“Don’t worry too much about it! Whatever will be will be, and all that. You’ll have a blast, you’ll see the world, and if you lose some money on the way, well, that’s the price of the ticket. I know I haven’t been around all that long, but take it from me -- you’re better off trying and failing than never trying at all.”

The drummed absorbed Juno’s advice and committed it to memory -- it sounded like a bit of a stretch, having the money to afford something like a personal guard, but perhaps he was right. Anyway, if he started making money and saving it better, perhaps he’d be able to afford something like that.
“Thanks.” He looked up and smiled sheepishly, realising that he had started looking somewhat glum -- and for no good reason, given that nothing at all awful had happened to him yet! “It’s great, you know, to get your advice. I’m glad I met you… you’ve probably spared me a lot more trouble than just one dry walk through the desert. And speaking of dry walks, Mr Beer-Delivery-Man… have you got something to drink around here?”
