Ex?

Bingo. He might not have the womanly intuition or whatever they were calling it these days, but Bob knew he could tell when a gal was having boy problems. Call it a hunch. Maybe it developed itself over time and the hundreds of episodes of soap operas he'd seen in his lifespan. Who knew the real reason?

"Never said you were heartless, Cap. I just know you obviously did some stuff to get to a higher rank than the peons below you."

Remaining seated on her boot, one paw moved up to gently bat at her leg, insistently. He knew she could teleport - that only meant holding on to his twenty-some-odd pounds self for a few moments, right?

"I like all things. Documentaries. Comedy. Romance. Drama."

Romance was a stretch, but he was willing to say whatever it took to get into a new warm house with more food opportunities - even if it meant watching some boring chick flick to do so.

"Just so we're clear?" Her brow quirked as she stooped down to haul the oversized tub of orange fluff up into her arms. "Action and adventure are way better than romance and drama. No one needs drama and to hell with romance."

Boy problems confirmed.

"Also, you weigh too much. Maybe you should lay off of the cheeseburgers?" Tourmaline snorted softly, adjusting her grip on the feline before focusing on where she wanted to be and teleporting the two of them back to her modest studio apartment. She dropped the cat down on her sofa before letting the shadows fade down from around her, the guise of a Captain dissolving until all that remained was a quirky young woman in an oversized sweater and a pair of leggings.

"Are you a fan of pizza rolls or do you prefer popcorn?"

"I bet we could find Divorce Court on basic cable if we tried hard enough." Furry eyebrows waggled in the direction of the young woman as claws took to immediately kneading the fabric of the sofa. Around and around he spun, pushing and scratching at the couch until he found an acceptable spot to burrow into.

He ignored the shot at his weight - more fluff to keep himself warm with, as far as he was concerned. Eyes did light up, however, as she mentioned dinner options. It was hard to suppress the urge to say why not both, but after her cheeseburger comment, he didn't want to push his luck.

"Why don't you start some pizza rolls while I get your sofa more adapted to cat hair, eh?"

Legs stretched out and he yawned lazily, glancing over towards the girl and then in the direction of the television remote abandoned on the coffee table. "You can tell me the real reason why you were flying solo while I listen like a good pet."

"Netflix is cheaper than cable and I'm not watching Divorce Court. If I wanted to watch people bicker about their marriage I would've gone home to visit my parents." Katrina snorted as she stepped into the kitchen, grabbing a box of pizza rolls out of the freezer. She eyed the instructions, debating the wait time between nuking them in the microwave and getting the nice crisp on the exterior by putting them in the oven.

Compromise, she thought to herself as she turned on the oven, setting it to preheat before opening the box to neatly arrange the bite-sized treats on a plate large enough to fit most of the tiny pizza filled pillows. She could cut the heat time down by starting them off in the microwave and finishing them off in the oven for the crisp.

"What? Girl's not allowed to spend an evening alone? That's news to me." She popped the plate into the microwave, setting the timer for a minute. While she waited for it to ding she got into the fridge again. "Your drink options include cream soda, kiwi soda, tea or water." She glanced back over her shoulder towards the cat, brow lofted in question.

"You're dodging the question."

His nose wrinkled as she listed off the available options. The most appealing sounding drink was the cream soda, but carbonated beverages never settled very well with him. "What, no milk? What house doesn't have milk?"

Her voice continued to carry from the kitchen area, but the girl was blocked by the back end of the couch. Lifting up from his comfortable position, he hopped to the top of the couch to allow for a better view before laying back down. Netflix wasn't terrible - true, it didn't have the trashy series he liked to watch on basic cable, but the company had a decent enough collection to keep him entertained when there was nothing else to watch.

"Water, I suppose." His tail swished around as he eyed the oven, gaze moving across to study the rest of her belongings. "So, you live here alone, Cap'n?"

"Milk spoils if you're not around often enough to drink it. Closest I've got to that is a sweet cream coffee creamer that I use to top off some of the teas that I have." The microwave beeped followed by the oven as it finished preheating. Katrina pulled the plate from the microwave, shuffling the pizza rolls onto a baking sheet before she shoved them into the oven for another five minutes.

"Does it really look like there's enough room in here for more than one person?" Out of habit she answered his question with another question. Contrary. She heard that word in Kian's voice every time she was purposefully being a brat and it made her pause to evaluate things again.

"I've got a place to stay where I'm not alone, but I wanted a space that was mine. It's been hard to stay there since..." The breakup? He disappeared? How do you want to answer that, Kat? "... Ever been lonely while sitting in a room full of people before?"

As she waited for an answer she pulled a cup from the cabinet. It was one of her various coffee mugs, large and shallow-- Hopefully easier for a cat to stick its face into. She filled it with water before bringing it out to set it carefully on the coffee table for Bob before flipping the television on and logging in to her Netflix account.

"Lonely isn't really an issue for a cat."

His long ginger colored body slid down the side of the couch, tail sailing in the air as he stepped over the space separating the table from the couch. "When we want attention, we just force ourselves upon whomever."

Eyes flickered up towards his hostess before dipping down to the offered cup. "But I can understand your need for company. Perhaps you should invest in a cat or three."

He lapped at the water, his long pink tongue scooping up the cool liquid before swallowing it. Short, quick licks until he'd consumed the first entire inch of the cup's content. His back legs moved forward, his bottom creating a seat out of the surface of the otherwise empty coffee table as his tail draped over the side. "Though you could always convert some company out of the next cute John Doe you see, eh? What's the expression - there are plenty of fish in the sea?"

The temptation to knock the cup over was beginning to develop, so the cat chose to instead turn his focus towards the television screen where the Netflix logo was quickly booting up. "Life's too short to live it miserably, Cap'n."

"Alright, but... Lonely in the sense that everyone you try to force yourself on either kicks you, nudges you out of the way, has other ideas for how you should be acting... Or just claims that they're more of a dog person than a cat person." Her nose wrinkled as though to say she didn't understand those people, because cats were clearly the superior animal-- If they weren't why would the guardians of the senshi favor them instead of dogs?

"I can't just go recruiting everyone myself. I mean, I could, but as a Captain there's still too much risk for screwing it up. Without that extra power, the finesse it takes-- I'd have to be a General, or I'd have to find one." Which she had already done once. Too many times and she was going to have to start owing people favors.

"Just because I was thinking about things out there doesn't mean that I'm miserable. Were you miserable just because you were up on the roof?"

"Touché."

Recruiting wasn't one of Bob's strong points. He'd awakened a few senshi in his time... but that was a long time ago, in a world he'd rather not remember. His duty in the present day was simply to survive and take what the world was willing to give to him. Loneliness and misery didn't have a place in his world - those were for chumps who let others walk all over them. Women were the ones who mostly fell victim to those feelings - but then again, women were... well, women. They had a natural tendency to overthink things and worry about things that they had no business in worrying over.

Ah well, sometimes kiddos like the Cap'n would have to learn their lesson the hard way.

He gave an appreciative silent nod, however, as he noted the disgusted look on her face when mentioning the idea of a person preferring mangy mutts to the superior species of cats. Hopping off the table and back onto the couch, the water bowl jiggled for a brief moment before settling back down, along with the rest of the table. Bob, on the other hand, was moving over towards the warm body heat emanating from the woman on the couch. Plopping down beside her, his focus turned towards the television screen, where the little mouse was flipping through Netflix's suggestions.

One paw moved to rest atop the woman's hand as the screen flipped to one of the new shows produced by Netflix itself. "Stop. Let's watch that one."

Katrina's brow lofted at the cat's suggestion, although she did pause the cursor over his selection to open up the list of episodes. She set the controller down beside him on the sofa so that he could start the first one while she made her way back to the kitchen to get their food out of the oven.

The rations were meager in appearance but filling in the long run-- Pizza rolls were one of her favorite 'quick to eat, filled with taste and cheap' snacks when it came to running herself ragged (something she'd done her fair share of lately). It was nice having someone to share them with, honestly, even if that someone was a cat.

A couple of episodes in found the plate mostly empty and her own drink all but finished off. It also found her curled more comfortably on the couch, one leg folded beneath her, one arm wrapped around the pillow and one hand resting on the ginger tabby's back. Her fingers stroked through his fur slowly from just between his shoulders to halfway down his back. The action was soothing and she found herself starting to relax more.

"Y'know, you're not so bad for a talking cat, Bob." Katrina's voice was soft as it passed her lips; a little tired and definitely worn. The hour was late ad between the long day, the bit of food and the comforting presence of someone else she was starting to feel like she could fall asleep right there on the couch.

His stomach also full on greasy pizza rolls, the large cat found himself both comfortable and content alongside the young woman as the television continued to droll on. The movie he'd picked had been somewhat interesting, but not nearly enough to remain attentive as he shared a yawn, his large mouth opening wide to expose the sharp set of feline teeth in his maw.

"It's okay, kid. You ain't so bad yourself. Y'know, for being an emotional dame and all."

He thought he heard a snort coming from her side of the couch, but he ignored it, choosing instead to nudge himself closer to her as long legs moved to stretch outwards. Still not entirely comfortable, he flipped over onto his stomach and began a crawl up her leg that was accompanied by some soft oompths from the leg's owner, thanks to his weight. Settling on her thigh, he spun around for one, then two circles before curling across her side.

Her hand returned to scratching his back, the movement of fingers slowing down as she noticeably grew drowsier and drowsier, until her eyes closed completely and her breathing relaxed. Bob wasn't terribly far behind her, his furry head resting down atop her clothing as green eyes said one final goodbye to the world for the remainder of the evening.
