Rowan sat for a moment and thought, still absently running a webbed hand up and down their arm. On the one hand they really didn't want their powers to get stronger. Weaker would have been better. This was definitely something they'd never asked for, nor wanted. But, well...
On that other hand, it wasn't like they had a choice. People couldn't just pick and choose what they were
born with. Rowan had this...this thing, and there was no way to shut it off. Repress, maybe, but it would always be there in the background, waiting for a crack in their defenses to return. And there would be cracks; no shield was perfect.
Would the ability getting stronger
really be bad? They turned the possibilities over in their mind. They already heard voices, so what would a stronger ability do for that? Probably increase the clarity, which might be better than half-heard whispers, but it might also increase the frequency. It seemed an even trade on that ground. Could there be visual changes? They
didn't see anything currently, though they sometimes knew when something was there, even without hearing them. It was like....well, similar to knowing where something was based on memories of their surroundings. Not the best of comparisons, but the best they could come up with. There was just a particular heaviness when things were about, that feeling of a presence even if no one seemed to be there. So how would that change if their ability strengthened? Would the potential control they could learn be worth it?
"If I could be taught to control it on my own," Rowan started, their voice breaking off into silence as their thoughts continued to whirl around. They cleared their throat and tried for speech again. "Would it... Do you think it would be worth it, even if things did....progress?"
