As Aldora grabbed the last of the fruit, Kally couldn't help but marvel again at her flying dexterity. "Oh I believe what she said about the trees, I just didn't see it myself." She clarified. "She was pretty beat up. She's lucky she didn't tear a wing or something. " she almost shuddered at the though. Though she didn't have wings herself the idea of losing something as precious as flighty mortified her. Especially after him seen the way Deca enjoyed it so.

With a fond smile she commented cheerfully "I would love for you to take me to see Deca sometime! I've weathered much of her temper before and I know that it wouldn't last all that long. I really would like to meet her again." She began to wander absentmindedly down the path back toward the water as she imagined what a reunion with Deca would be like. When Aldora popped the question about the Kalona it made her hesitate. She was thrown back into the terrible memories of her past for a moment. She almost stumbled but caught herself and forced a laugh beating back the flash of momentary panic. She knew that she was no longer there and never would be again. Sometimes she just had to remind herself.

At Aldora's suggestion to eat near the water she gave a genuine little chuckle. "Honestly I was already heading for the water without thinking about it. So I'm glad you think it's a good idea too." She started forward again in a cheerful little skip and said over her shoulder, "Let's get these salads made I'm starving. " Then she forced herself to answer the younger mare's question. " I was raised very badly by a family of Kalona. But that's not a story for such a nice morning. Maybe some other time."

She broke through the tree line and out into the white sand her eyes scanning for her favorite Little Rock that made the perfect table. Ah, there it was. She set the basket down and started making little piles from the leaves and fruit from within it. Some things she shredded, others she crushed and finally she took a last piece of fruit and squeezed it over the top of both piles. There was no need to worry about the mess she would make on her little makeshift table as when the tide came in it swept away any sticky or gooey things she may have left. The residual salt from the water always added a nice treat to her dishes too.
"There we are. Enjoy my new friend." She chirped happily as she laid in the end and nibbled at her own pile.

At the mention of tearing a wing Aldora shuddered, thinking to herself how horrible it would be to lose that beautiful escape, to go through all the difficulties of learning and then all the wonderful years of flying through the skies and between the trees and mountains, or barely above the waves of the sea or the trickle of the streams, only to have it taken from you in the blink of an eye would be worse than death to some. Even Aldora herself would be so broken she wouldn't know how to carry on.

Shaking herself she said with a smile "Then I would love to take you to her sometime. I have definitely dealt with her sass at showing up unannounced before" she chuckled "after all that is how i met her the very first time, when i was just a filly enjoying my first day alone with my father." She smiled rather brightly at the memory.

As Kally chuckled about herself already subconsciously heading towards the waves Aldora skipped after her laughing "Great minds think alike then!" she said with a smile, thinking how nice it was to have someone around who so obviously loved the beach and the waves just as she did as she trotted along happily behind her.

Aldora faltered in her steps a bit at Kallys' mention of being raised badly by the Kalona, she caught herself quickly and wondered how anyone could treat this lovely mare poorly, especially her own supposed family. Such a happy intelligent and beautiful mare should always be treated with the utmost respect. It broke her heart a little to know she was treated in such a way, especially by those so close to her.
"Alright another time then." she said following the mare down to a lovely little rock that looked as if it was the perfect table.

She watched Kally as she was preparing the salads so carefully as if it were an art in itself which, Aldora thought, when Kally does it, it really is.
The smell of the salads was phenomenal! She got comfortable and tasted her first nibble, "This is delicious!" she exclaimed happily as she nibbled some more of the lovely breakfast her new friend had so kindly prepared for her.
"Thank you so much Kally, this day and this meal have both been amazing so far, and your company most of all! Its very nice to have such a wonderful and interesting new friend." She smiled brightly at her friend and started in on the rest of her meal enjoying the sounds of nibbling beside her and the crashing of the waves, she thought to herself "this looks to be the beginning of a very interesting adventure.'

User ImageKally soaked up the praise as if it were the same as the sunlight. Then she, like the moon, reflected it right back.
"Oh you are so very welcome for breakfast Ali! Oops! You don't mind if I call you Ali do you?" She flushed cutely at her slip. "Your company this morning has been very welcome as well. I never imagined I'd meet such a kind mare when I woke up this morning! And the day has barely begun!" She giggled happily and continued picking daintily at her salad.

As she politely waited for Aldora to finish her salad, Kally ran through her plans for the day in her head. Except she hadn't made any! She giggled quietly to herself at her silliness and started thinking about what maybe Ali would want to do. If she wanted to stick around. Ooooh! Maybe they could look for shells and she could teach her new friend to string a bracelet or something. Or maybe even a necklace if they had he time to gather enough pretty things from the beach. Or if they didn't have time today maybe they could meet again? Kally soon lost herself to daydreams of spending more time with the young mare she had befriended.

When Kally began to feel the suns warmth intensify she was shaken from her fantasies of frolicking fillies on the beach and realized that perhaps she should actually say something to the mare. It was pretty common for her to drift off into her own little world as it had become something of a survival instinct while living with mistreatment and neglect. It helped satisfy her need for companionship and fun. She smiled and shook her head then addressed Aldora: "If you're not busy I was wondering if you might want to get her some shells with me? I could teach you how to make something pretty from them if you like." She nudged what was left of her salad around and then took a moment to watch the waves roll on n while she waited for her new friend to answer.

Aldora smiled brightly at Kally and noticing her flushed face, she chuckled lightly "Oh don't worry! It's quite alright, as my new friend you may call me anything you wish, and i have to admit Ali is a rather nice change."

Going back to finish her delectable salad she thought to herself how different this mare was from others she met and how nice it was, even in the silences they shared. She felt no awkwardness at all around her, just contentment at having someone of a like mind to spend time with. It seemed it had been quite some time since she actually settled down long enough to spend time with someone to have fun, let alone become real friends. The thought surprised her a bit, though she was a rather friendly mare she never really made friends with anyone else much in her life but this mare comes along and it's instantaneous. She smiled to herself thinking how oddly nice that was and turned her face back toward the water.

She let her mind wander as she watched the waves ebb and flow at the shoreline lulling her into a relaxed state of bliss, she jumped only slightly when Kally spoke again. Shaking herself and coming back to the conversation she looked at Kally and said excitedly "I would absolutely love to gather shells with you!"
She thought for a moment searching her memories before adding "I've never really made anything out of them before, usually i just admire them this will be fun."

Aldora got up and stretched her legs and her wings out and waited for Kally to be ready to go as well. "Race you to the waters edge?" She said with a smirk looking at Kally to see if she was willing.

Kally stifled a giggle as Aldora jumped when shaken from her drifting thoughts. It seemed Kally wasn't the only one with a wandering mind! She didn't feel so bad now about her own wandering mind. She briefly considered asking the other mare what she had been thinking about but then decided against it. Maybe once they were better friends she would ask to be included in the other mare's private thoughts. Until then she would just content herself with curiosity.

When she realized that the other mare had not only agreed to her idea of spending time together but had responded with excitement Kally couldn't contain her own. "Oh, Ali, Really? That's wonderful! I mean, it's not wonderful that you've never done it but I'm glad to be able to share something with you." She giggled. It was sure nice to have another mare around. While her old medicine stallion friend was wonderful he never had time for the fun things she enjoyed doing. She nibbled at one of the pieces of her salad and decided that she was to excited to finish eating. She nudged the remnants around to spread them out. Either a passing critter would enjoy it or the tide would wash it away for the sea creatures to eat. Either way it wouldn't go to waste.

Standing to join her she shook the sand from her belly. At the invitation to race Kally very briefly considered turning it down. She wasn't normally a runner and she knew she wouldn't have any sort of chance at winning. But it could still be fun. "Alright." She nodded her head determinedly at Ali. "Winner gets first pick of the shells. " It wasn't really that big of a deal with as many shells as there were on the beach but she wanted to make it something special for her new friend. As she dug her hooves into the sand getting ready to get a good push off she felt herself gettin a little excited about the run. While she didn't do it often she still did enjoy an occasional run on the beach. Even though they were usually pretty short. She grinned at Aldora. "Ready when you are."

Aldora, loving the idea of a challenge and even more so just a chance to have fun with another mare, flashed Kally the biggest smile that she had smiled in a very long time and said excitedly "Okay! On three! One!.. Two!.. Three!" And they took off. Loving the free feeling and the wind rushing through her mane Aldora felt so good that she lost herself in the sensation. Watching the beautiful waves crashing ever closer setting her very soul ever more free.
She was whickering excitedly and speeding down the beach glancing back at her friend every once in awhile to see if she was keeping up. Which she seemed to be doing decently well. She tossed her head in joyous laughter and that's when it happened. Not paying enough attention to where she was going she didn't see the large rock that tripped her until it was too late. She went rolling forward and felt something go wrong. Too much pain to really think about it but definitely something was off. She landed in a heap with a brief "oomph" Cursing herself for being so clumsy she lay there trying to catch her breath, taking a glance back at her friend praying to herself her friend doesn't hit the same rock that she just did, feeling helpless to warn her because she didnt have enough breath to do so.

User ImageWith as much excitement as Ali showed, Kally was glad she hadn't turned down the race offer. When it wasn't a matter of her healing, Kally's timing was always slightly off. When she was doing her healing everything the cheerful mare did was precise and exact. It was no small matter of woe to her that she couldn't seem to extend that into the rest of her endeavors. So, despite the fact that she had readied herself, when the other mare took off Kally was just a beat behind her. This didn't upset Kally cause she was used to it so she just laughed as her broad hooves sprayed up sand as she dug in to get a good start.

As they tore across the beach Kally's eyes never left Aldora's running form. She was so in awe with Ali's obvious absolute joy in running that she forgot to worry about tiring herself out like she normally did. Which could possibly be good since without the worry she didn't seem to be tiring at all. She was marveling at how someone with wings could take so much joy in just running when they also had the ability to fly when she saw Ali trip. She watched in horror as her new friend fell and tumbled coming to rest in an odd postition.

As Kally met Ali's concerned, pain filled eyes she swerved around the rock that had been her friend's undoing and slid to a stop in a shower of sand. She almost went down herself but after a moment of undignified scrambling she was steady and rushed close.
"Wait! don't move yet? Where does it hurt?" Kally slipped into healer mode as easily as she breathed. It was the one mindspace that didn't have any room for all of the anxieties and fears that normally plagued her. As she waited for Aldora's response so she could properly assess the situation she ran over in her mind all of the herbs and devices she had in her home that could be helpful. At the same time she pulled a small pouch from the place it was tied in her mane and began working it open with her muzzle.

Aldora felt a flood of relief as Kally managed to dodge the silly rock that had thwarted Aldora so easily.
She tried to stay completely still and not cry out in agony as she tried to calm herself down and answer Kallys' question.
Breathing as deeply and slowly as she could to try to relax she took a moment to assess her pain.
"Well my legs seem to be fine but i think i messed up something in my neck, its a bit sore." she paused assessing all the other feelings of her various joints and appendages, and as she attempted just a small twitch of her right wing she gasped and lost herself in pain. "My wing, it hurts" she gasped and looked at her friend, "I think ive messed up something in my wing" A rush of panic and absolute sadness took over her, what if she had really messed it up to the point where she would never fly again? How would she live without the freedom she worked and trained so hard to procure? What would Deca say if she lost it all? She couldn't bear to think of all the answers to those questions and she felt a tear trickle down her face but did not wipe it away, she trusted Kally to see her pain and not judge her, so instead she just looked the mare in the eyes and said what she felt; Kally, I'm scared.."

Kally did a more thorough visual check of the areas Ali had mentioned while she finished opening the little pouch. Inside was a little ball of mashed together leaves and flower petals. The smell that wafted from it was earthy but not unpleasant with a touch of sweetness.
"Here. Eat this quickly. It will numb the pain. You'll stay conscious if get a bit silly. Keep in mind that just because the pain goes away doesn't mean it's better yet so stay still unless I say." Nothing appeared to be at an odd angle but there was definite swelling on her wing. Her neck was probably just jarred. No way to really tell until she was upright.

Very briefly Kally considered going for her mentor. But he was some way away and she didn't want to leave Ali for that long. It was also possible that he might be with another patient and she'd have to wait even longer. No. Better she handled it herself. It wasn't like she didn't have the experience or knowledge. Quite the opposite. She also had experience with banged up wings specifically after her encounter with Decadent. She brushed away Ali's tear and murmured soothingly to her while they waited for the herbs to kick in.
"It's going to be alright. Soon it won't hurt anymore and we'll get you all patched up. I've seen worse and that silly mare was able to fly right as rain after just a little short recovery. It's okay to be scared. But can you be brace too? You'll be just fine."

She watched closely for the sharp edge of pain to fade from her friends eyes and became all business again. "Alright. Let's get you on your belly so I can see better." She knelt down and helped nudge the other mare over into her belly. "I'm going to help you stretch out your wing now so I can see it better."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 23, 2017 12:00 pm

"I'll try to keep as still as i can for you." She took a deep breath to calm herself and let it out slowly, "How long have you been a healer?" Ali asked taking the little ball of herbs and starting to chew it, taking longer than she normally would have because her mouth was a bit dry from the panic. It didn't taste half bad she thought to herself, so at least there was that. Finally she got it all down and they waited.
As Kally wiped away her tear and started murmuring soothing words to her she thought to herself how lucky she was to have made friends with such a nice mare and even luckier that she was a healer. She noticed the pain fading and the world feeling much more fuzzy.
"What happened to her wings?" she asked curiously "And yes I'm sure I can be brave, especially because I have you here with me" she added with a smile rolling, a bit clumsily, onto her belly as she was told and allowing Kally to help her stretch out her wing.

User ImageKally chuckled at how good of a patient Ali was. She didn't complain about the meds and was even curious about hearing stories to keep her distracted. Kally was used to much more fidgety patients that liked to focus on what their problem was if for no other reason than to complain. Sometimes she suspected that the old stallion who mentored her let her have the difficult ones on purpose. Not that she really had cause to complain. In the end it would help her be a better healer if she could deal with the unwilling to cooperate.

"I've been learning to heal since the spring of last year." The stocky mare began. She stood and very gently took the edge of Ali's wing in her lips. She pulled it open in a very slow patient manner, watching to make sure that all of the bones and joints were moving as they should. There! She saw a muscle spasm. She paused and set the wing down. Despite the fact that she knew her friend couldn't feel the pain of her injury any longer she still didn't want to stress the tissue.
"The mare had been caught in a storm. It had pulled her through the canopy of the forest before slamming her into a tree." She grasped the wing again and finished opening it. It wasn't bad. Mostly just sprained. It looked like maybe a tendon in the other mare's shoulder had started to tear.
"It tore both of her wings up pretty bad. Luckily it didn't actually rip the membrane through. Also wrecked several tendons and whatnot."
She carefully folded the wing back in tucking it tightly against Ali's back.

"Alright. The good news is that it's not that bad. The bad news is that I'm going to have to bind your wings for several days. After that we'll check them again. If they're doing well, then you can start stretching them. It's going to be a while until you can fly again but no fear, you will fly." As she talked she began running over the supplies she had in her hut in her mind. She'd have to leave Ali for a little bit to go get what she needed.
"I'm going to run to my home. It's right over there. I'll be right back. Please don't move at all." With that she took off at a gallop pushing her her broad hooves as fast as they would go.

It took her moments to find what she was looking for and she sprinted back to the mare laying on the sand. She carefully laid out her supplies as she heaved trying to catch her breath. She really should run more often. What if there was an emergency and she wasn't in good enough shape to help? When she could breath well enough not to jolt her friend while she bound her she set to her task.
"Ali, do you think you could kneel? I need to be able to pass this under your belly." She indicated a wide strip of cloth that she had brought for the binding.

Aldora smiled happily as she saw Kally chuckle, it made her feel more comfortable for some reason. She started feeling rather floaty of the body and huffed a little sigh listening contentedly to her friends story. She was obviously a good healer even with practicing for such a short time, Ali noted that in all the times she had been injured (bad or not) she had never felt so at ease.. Although perhaps that had something to do with how she felt about Kally herself.. The thought surprised her but she was too interested in what Kally was doing and saying to give it too much thought.

At hearing of the other mare that Kally had helped having such terrible injury's she cringed "that sounds absolutely horrible, I am glad you were there to help her, as I can imagine her pain and fear. She was lucky to have such a lovely healer." She smiled sheepishly and giggled just a bit.

Her face fell somewhat at the thought of being bound up for several days but at the assurance that she would fly again she felt her smile shine right through. Although at the mention of Kally running back home she did feel a little deflated, though she was not entirely sure why. But, nodding her head, she agreed "I promise to stay right here and not move as much as possible my friend."

Ali had to admit that watching her friend run made her very happy, she loved the way Kallys' mane flowed as the breeze caressed it.
Smiling to herself she began bobbing her head just a bit and humming a merry tune to herself that she heard as a child, although she could not exactly remember where.

In no time Kally was back at her side asking her if she could kneel. It took her a moment to process that she had asked her a question and then a moment longer to convince her floaty feeling limbs to do as she asked. She wobbled a bit slightly bumping into Kally, "Oops! Sorry! I seem to be a bit more unsteady than i thought!" she laughed smiling up at her friend and righting herself "Is this where you want me?"

User ImageOn her return trip across the beach Kally was pleased to note Aldora moving her head. It meant that by the time the pain numbing plant wore off it would be just a little stiff. She was still a little worried about that wing though. Not that it wouldn't heal but rather that the process was going to be hard on her new friend mentally. Kally new all about internal hardship. She tried not to grimace and made sure her mane flipped in front of her face with her stride, just in case.

Kally was thrilled with the willingness that Aldora showed in her effort to get to her knees. Even when she wobbled she showed good spirits. She laughed with her and nuzzled her neck reassuringly as she helped steady the other mare.
"Yes, right there is perfect." She made sure the wig was adjusted, folded tight to Ali's back. As an extra measure, Kally tucked the other wing down too. She very quickly bound both wings right to Aldora's back cringing with empathy.
"I'm sorry Ali. Even though I don't have my own wings I know it can't be easy to suddenly have them immobile. But it's for the best. I promise." She smiled reassuringly. "Alright. You can lay back down now."

Kally did her best to try to make her friend comfortable but only so much could be done in the middle of the large stretch of sandy beach with the sun climbing higher. She pulled a gourd filled with fresh water from the basket her supplies were nestled in and offered it to Ali.
"Stay as hydrated as you can. Let me know when the pain starts to come back. That means the plants will be worn off enough for you to try moving into the shade. After we get you settled someplace better I can give you some other plants. They aren't as strong but work really well."

In her mind she ran through the possible locations for her to leave her new friend while she recovered. The weather was too nice to coop her up in Kally's hut. Also, she would probably like to see the sky even though she couldn't fly. But it couldn't be too far from the beach or the hut in case someone else needed help. Ah, yes! That would work. Kally hummed a cheerful tune as she settled next to Ali on the sand to wait.
"I've figured out just the place for us to stay until you feel well enough to be in your feet again. See that tree line?" She indicated a spot not too far down the beach that was just a short distance from what looked like the start of a path. The path led to Kally's hut actually. "Well, just inside of there is a nice little clearing that has a good dapplenof sun and shade. A nice little spring too. I like to sit there during the hottest part of the days."
PostPosted: Thu Oct 05, 2017 1:16 pm

Ali was doing her best to steady herself as much as possible as Kally wrapped up both of her wings, she was still feeling rather uncomfortable with the thought of having her wings immobile but she had to admit that having Kally next to her reassuring her that everything would be okay was more calming to her than anything else would have been. Taking the gourd she drank deeply loving the refreshing cold water and giggling a little as it dribbled down her chin. "I know it is for the best and I will be alright, I am with you." She smiled up at her friend and tried to gracefully lay back down, but the sand and wooziness in her head from the herbs did not want to cooperate and she stumbled right into her friend and landing right on top of her. "Oof! I'm so sorry Kally!" She said trying to get off of her but ending up back right where she was. "I think I may need your help if you'd like me off of you" chuckling she added maybe it's for the best that we don't leave for that lovely copse of trees quite yet." She sighed slightly "Not that I am complaining but I'm how long am I going to be feeling all of a dither? I seem to be making a bit of a fool of myself."
