"No, no." A man who couldn't appreciate planning and deeper meanings had his head way too far up his insulted masculinity complex.
"Well we were happy, weren't we?" Brian asked. He had been for certain. That had been one damn good night. "Now, open yours, Miss Hard to Follow." To distract from his embarrassment at giving Misha what was potentially a lackluster set of gifts, he pulled his wallet out and already was beginning the change-over.

"When aren't I happy when I'm hanging out with you?" Misha laughed gently before winking at him and focusing on her gifts again. "It's just the natural order of things, I think. You're really good at making me smile." She began tearing away paper, tidily keeping it beside her on the bed. "Do I have your permission to use it as my phone wallpaper or something? When my mom can't see it?"

"Well, exactly!" he chirped, but it was only half jokingly. When he was unhappy with Misha, Misha wasn't the cause and they were usually on their way up. She was both a terrible influence and a wonderful friend. "Oh, yeah, of course." In fact he might make it his too. It was more meaningful then the default.
On top was a little box like the sort you got from etsy. It was white with a thin teal ribbons around it and stuffed with that weird not-quite-paper-or-stuffing padding those sorts of things came with. Inside was a pendant about one and a half inches long. It was a joke, except for the part where he had looked long and hard and spent more than he had been planning to in search of it. Hopefully Misha wouldn't be upset with it.
"Apparently they're called servals," he said. "I just had to know. You were so cute."
There was the longer flat wrapped cardboard-thing to go and the larger bulkier box (though it was not too heavy to hold in one hand) beneath this cat-jewelry.

The moment the adorably detailed pendant came to light, Misha started giggling. As Brian rushed to explain it, her good-natured laughter only increased. It really was the cutest thing! And so silly and sweet and just like him. She smiled at him, eyes lit up with pleasure. "Was I really as cute as this?" she asked as she drew the necklace from its wrapping. "No wonder everyone kept petting me and rubbing under my chin and letting me sit on their laps." The smile slid into something more like a smirk and she winked at him. "Or sleep on top of them. That was the first and last time you didn't fight me on sleeping arrangements, you know." Then she suddenly handed the necklace to him, set down her other presents on his bed, and spun to put her back to him, lifting her dark waves of hair. "Put it on me," she ordered. Then she paused, laughed at herself, and added, "Please."

Oh, good. Their missions had all been uniquely traumatic so far, and Brian hadn't been sure if hearkening back to one of them had been a bad idea. His memories of Misha the Cat were mostly positive, though. For all that had been going on, she had been a good battle buddy and, more importantly, a good source of comfort.
"You were cuter," he assured her, and took the necklace. For one insane moment he thought that she was giving it back, and then she turned and he was forced to resist the urge to kiss the back of her neck again. "Hey, we we had been out there for a long time, and I wasn't exactly given a choice." He latched the chain and let it hang. Really, he hadn't thought that it was something that Misha would want to wear. Maybe she just wanted to see it on and laugh a bit. "I mean, if you just crawled into bed, what am I supposed to do?"

"Hmm, that's something I'll keep in mind." With the necklace hooked, Misha twisted to cast a look of complete mischief at him. He had no doubts that she would indeed remember this; in fact, there was a chance she would go ahead and use it as well, judging by the expression on her face. For her part, Misha had no qualms about taking the fact and running with it. Shame was for people who didn't know what they liked. She said nothing more, though, and turned around to let him judge the effect of the necklace now hanging between her collar-bones. "What do you think?"

Brian just laughed at her face. He was pretty sure she knew him well enough that he wouldn't just up and open his bed to anyone, but Misha also wasn't "just anyone." He would still be nervous that he'd roll over and snuggle during the night, and that could make for an awkward morning.
He glanced down at the pendant then and cocked his head to one side. It didn't look as silly as he thought it would, really. He also wasn't sure when one would want to wear a cat on a chain but he wasn't remotely fashionable either.
"It's not bad."

"Only not bad? Hmph." Misha pouted as she reached up to finger the pendant idly. "You're a goofball. It's adorable and I thank you." Suddenly, she dropped her hand, stepped forward, and went on her toes to kiss his cheek. "A lot. I guess I should open the other things, too, huh?" She gave him a saucy wink. Then she turned back to the other two presents. She sat on his bed once more and began unwrapping them.

Brian grinned and shook his head. Well, as long as she liked it.
"You're welcome," he said, and even leaned down to offer his cheek more closely to Misha. He was still a bit nervous as she sat down and continued.
The gift-card-looking shape was indeed a gift card for thirty dollars, or at least that was the number scrawled in Sharpie on the front. In the box, which he had pretty obviously bought from a separate store, contained two items his sisters had suggested. One was a nice little bath bomb that had reminded him of Misha. it was vanilla-y, sweet, but deep. The second, a short little container of minty-refreshing bath jelly (he couldn't not but at least one purely for novelty factor) and beneath them a gift receipt, just in case Misha didn't like the scents. He knew what reminded him of her, but not what she actually preferred. Both were from Lush, which his sisters swore by, and which happened to be a staple in the local mall back home.

"Oooo." With a delighted coo, Misha stuck her nose in the box to sniff the bath bomb. Then she flicked her gaze upwards to peer at him from beneath her lashes. A smile twitched at her lips. "How did you guess my favorite bomb, Handsome?"

A look like surprise flickered onto Brian's face, but it was a happy one. Misha may well have been playing with him, but he wouldn't recognize that until later. For the moment he was just pleased that he had picked out Misha's favorite.
Smiling softly, he shrugged. "It just reminded me of you."
Had she smelled like it some day? He could have been subconsciously aware of it.

"I'll take that as a compliment since it smells so pretty." Misha set down the boxes and stood again. "Thank you, Brian. So very much." Stepping up and into his personal space, Misha slipped her arms around her friend's waist and leaned against him. She once again noted how easily she could tuck her head beneath his chin and how nice it felt. "You really didn't have to get me anything but I love it all. You're good."

He laughed and accepted Misha into his arms, wrapping them around her and rubbing her back.
"Why thank you!" he teased, and then tilted his chin down to kiss her hair. No, he meant it. Really he did. Gift-giving always made him nervous. "And thanks for my new wallet, too."

"You're very welcome but, you know, your smile was thanks enough. It's great." Tilting her head up, Misha offered her own smile, luminous and fond. "Next up... More laughter!" With that semi-threat, she bounced up on her toes while reaching for his shoulders. A firm tug brought him downwards and she ghosted a kiss over the corner of his mouth. She figured, if he could drop kisses all over her hair, she was more than entitled to some of her own smooch deliveries. As she pulled back, she giggled. "Just you wait."

The reflex when a woman threw her arms around Brian's shoulders was apparently to pick her up. At least that was what his body told him to do, but she didn't come. His hands hit her sides gently and then escaped when she kissed his lips. It was important to not have misunderstandings, he told himself, but in reality it was more that he didn't want to consider it was anything but. He smiled. Wait? For what? He laughed pretty often with Misha.
