Jeremy offered her a smile and nodded. "Go on, go get what you need. You've got this, Delilah." He could be patient; there was no harm in taking a little extra time to make sure he got everything he could while she called them. The Destiny City Police Department might not have had time to take every robbery seriously, but there was a benefit to being friends with someone there.
It wasn't like he could bend the rules too much, but he was going to do his job and was going to make sure it was done right.
It was a small thing, though; and none if it would mean anything if they couldn't catch the guy--and at least try to recover what had been stolen.
Some things could be replaced.
Some things couldn't.
He was going to work his a** off to make sure that they did everything they could to make things right again.

It took her a long moment but Delilah was finally able to rise, grab her phone and dial the number she needed to call. This was something she had been wanting to put off for as long as she possibly could. Delilah knew what she was about to deal with. The panic. The worry. The love. It was going to take all she could to... "Hey Dad. Got a minute?" Delilah said into the phone as she walked out of her apartment to speak to her father. Several moments later, Delilah walked back in and looked around for Jeremy. "Okay. Well, they are going to dig up the photo." Delilah took a deep breath, looking as if she had just walked into a crime scene again. "And I get to move home for awhile."

Jeremy did what he could on the police work field; he collected more information than he probably needed to, but he wasn’t going to waste the time he did have. When she entered the room, he stood up straight and nodded. “It’s probably for the best, getting out of this place for a while? …Speaking of,” he moved over to her and wrapped his arm around her, turning her back towards the door. “Let’s get you that food, give you a few minutes to catch your breath and relax. I know it’s overwhelming now, but you’ve got this. Just remember that. Things are rough now, but you’re a strong girl and you’ll pull through. I will do everything in my power to catch this guy and get your life back to normal, all right?”
He tried to sound reassuring, but he knew how overwhelming things like this could be. Words didn’t mean much when you were surrounded in a house that didn’t feel like your own anymore.
He wasn’t done with his shift, and he’d already texted his partner to let him know that he was going to head out for a bit.
Which was fine; his partner didn’t take his job as seriously as Jeremy did so he’d probably have been happy to screw around for a bit. They were far from the worst officers in Destiny City.
“Hey,” he said after a minute. “…Do you have people you can call, to help you clean up, or…? My shift isn’t going to be over for a few hours, but…if you need some help cleaning things up, you let me know, all right? You shouldn’t have to deal with that alone.”

There was a rather large part within her that was grateful for the warm arm around her and the idea of a distraction. There was a small part that just wanted to turn back into her place, shove everything that was left inside into a trash bag and throw it all away! Just shove that entire part of her into the garbage and start over. Stronger. Better. With improved locks even! But deep within her, Delilah knew that wasn't an option. One couldn't just throw your life away and restart at the snap of a finger. Maybe a starseed but even the thought made her shiver. "I do but..." There was a long sigh in her words. Delilah had friends to call. People who would drop everything to be there for her. But she wasn't ready to face them. Her parents had been more than enough to deal with. "I'm not ready to calm their nerves. I saw one word and they will be over here with more than bells on. One might even bring her bat and...." Delilah had to laugh at the thought. "I would hate for her to think you were a target."

Jeremy laughed when Delilah laughed and gave her a little squeeze. “Well, we can talk about that over pie. If you don’t have anyone, I’m serious. You just let me know, I’m happy to help. Now, let’s lock up.”
The house might have been hit once already, but there was no point in being reckless.
“You ever ride in the front of a cop car?” he asked, trying to keep her focused on something easy.
“…Actually, you don’t seem like you’re the sort who has ever been in a police car, front or back.”
He had moved to stand outside and caught sight of his partner; they raised a hand to each other in distant greeting, but his partner was already moving to the next house and turned away shortly after.

"You would be right." Delilah gave him a warm smile, walking towards the car with him. "I've never been in a cop car...front or back. But if I had to pick, I think the front is the better choice." "Promise I won't touch the lights either." She needed that laugh...truth be told, she was glad it was him. It was the start of a much needed friendship.
