SHORT PROGRAM:

The first event of the night is the short program. This includes both junior and senior divisions, and the men's and women's divisions. Scores gained in the short program will be added to a free skate which will take place later in the RP. The short program will stay open for a while though, and everyone is free to join at any time (AU rules yeah!) until the current standings are posted (probably next week sometime).

Not a skater? Don't worry! We've got some mechanics for coaches, spectators, and media too! People with the highest combined scores from both the short program section and the free skate section in the different areas may get prizes later, or something mysterious.

If your character is a SKATER:

gaia_star Generate a random number between 65 -110. The number you get is your base score.
gaia_star Scale:
65-75: Either through distraction, exhaustion, or a fall, you've been docked some major points, but nothing you can't recover from.
76-85: You've had a few minor flaws such as stepping out of a jump or missing a rotation, but its still a solid score.
86-95: You've done some great work! Your routine may not have had as many technical elements, but you did them gracefully and expertly, exciting the audience.
96-110: Are you a skating god? You dazzled the audience with jumps back to back, flawlessly executed. You might have even made a few people cry with joy...

gaia_star Score Additions:
exclaim +2 for roleplaying out a warm-up on the ice. The extra warm up helps your confidence and calm your nerves.
exclaim +1 for "wise" words from your coach. They can be useful or... otherwise. As long as its motivating it helps you out.
exclaim +1 for awesome costume! Either describe or link a picture to the outfit you're wearing. Sometimes a little glitter goes a long way.

gaia_star Put your full score (with additions if applicable) in bold red somewhere in your post.

If your character is a COACH:

gaia_star Roll 1 d-10. This is your scale for how good you did at motivating your skater. A "10" is the perfect motivation, while a "1" means you probably made them cry...
gaia_star Put your number in bold red somewhere in your post.

If your character is MEDIA:

gaia_star Roll 10 d-4. This is your reel of pictures taken. 4 = Beautiful Picture, 3 = Good Picture, 2 = Slightly Blurry, Still Usable, 1 = Horrible/Unusable
gaia_star Total all of the 2's, 3's and 4's together and put that number in bold red somewhere in your post.

If your character is a SPECTATOR:

gaia_star Roll 1 d-10. This is your scale for how good you are at cheering for your favorite skater. A "10" means cheering, a sign or loud noise makers, while a "1" means you probably clapped once or fell asleep...
gaia_star Put your number in bold red somewhere in your post.

Feel free to roleplay out any of these scenarios as you see fit and have fun with it! Also, feel free to roleplay any canon characters as NPC!

[ NPC POST ]

Due to a technical issue, there was some delay in the scores for the first junior to go. His performance was a powerful one that had made the audience cheer and throw flowers and plush to the ice for him. After a few long moments of dreading, they announced his strong score of 105! Practically flawless and the audience cheered in hearing it and cameras went off to capture his response.

((OOC: There won't be npc posts for everyone, but there will be a standings post after the short programs. This post is here due to an error on my part with the dice mechanics ^^;; ))

Shiki finally heard his score read and nearly fainted in shock. He had done THAT well? The pale boy looked around to see if anyone else had heard before locking eyes a moment with Yuri. The other seemed to have a grudging look of respect in his eyes, but mouthed that he was still going to beat him.

For some reason knowing that Yuri found him to be worthy competition made him feel good and he bowed to the blond.

Shiki then turned around to face his coach nearly tackling him in happiness. "I.. I did good.. I really did good."

The older man chuckled. "Yes yes, Aoe Chan you did good. Don't let it go to your head, there is still another round to come. Sit down and stop making me tired."

[Bing!!! on ICE]

The German skater watched Shiki skate and after his score was announced she called out to him, “That was amazing!” Soon after, she was being called to the ice. She stood up and looked at her coach. “I’ve got this. No sweat, right?”

“Stay focused,” bellowed Rainer. “Remember: Übung macht den Meister. And with all of the practice you have done, you are already a master. Focus on the feeling! You already have all the skill and luck you need. I am already proud of you. Now go make yourself proud.” He sat and watched as Bing made her way onto the ice. She smiled and tried to get her thoughts under control.

I guess I even have him fooled. I’m no master… But I am going to have fun and give them a performance to remember!

She started her warm up on the ice. She kept her thick, black coat on to conceal her costume. She didn’t want Rainer to about her routine alteration until the last possible moment. Her coat restricted her movements, so she couldn’t practice all of her jumps. Rainer thought she was just being conservative and not overextend herself. She stretched her limbs as she skated. She tried a double axel, but the coat kept her from completing it and she stumbled.

Shake it off. Once the music starts, I’ll be at my best.

She heard the announcer call out her name and say that she would be performing to Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 14. She laughed to herself and stopped with her head down. Sure enough, the first few notes of “Moonlight Sonata” slipped out of the speakers. She slowly skated with her eyes closed for a few seconds. Then the music abruptly shifted as the tempo changed and music gained a club beat filled with electronica effects. As soon as the music shifted, Bing threw off her thick coat and it landed on her coach’s head.

“Nein! She’s always doing things like this,” growled Rainer from under the coat draped on his face. He threw it off to see his pupil wearing [this] a black and dark teal outfit that sparkled under the lights like the night sky. Hearts, crescent moons and sections of sheer fabric were scattered across her body. Her short skirt fluttered and shimmered as she posed and moved.

This is what I feel like. I can be deep and mysterious like the moon or the ocean’s depths. But, I also have energy like a meteor shower or an undersea volcano!

She stretched her body into a Biellmann spin and felt free. She liked the classic techniques and her short program would show this. But she also loved ice dancing and let the elements show as her music picked up. Jump after jump, she kept her energy flowing. She felt dizzy on several occasions. She jumped high, higher than anyone would have expected from a short teenager. There was a loud crack noise from the ice as she landed. She was having fun regardless of her minor flaws. Just being herself, to the point that she almost forgot she was even doing a routine. As she spun, she was like a compact dust devil. She stopped as the music did, breathing heavily and grinning at the audience. She exhaled loudly and skated over to her coach.

Rainer's eyes had inflated. At first, he was angry that she had changed her routine at the last second once again. But as he watched her skate, he saw her true energy. She wasn’t as serious and methodical as he was back in his time. And that was just fine. Her score was announced. She scored an 82(77+2+1+1) which was impressive for her age.

“Spitze! That’s it! That is your feeling! Don’t lose that ever,” boomed Rainer. Bing laughed and punched him in the arm as she sat next to him. She was glad she didn’t totally blow her routine and was eager to see the next skater. “I can’t wait to see you do your quad later.” Bing’s lip twitched at her coach’s words.

Even he believes me now. Can I really pull it off?

Melvin Wood
Region: US - Maine
Division: Senior

The old man smiled at the others with a small nod, otherwise occupied with occasionally glancing around searching for someone.
"Hello everyone. I'm glad everyone is cocky enough for the competition. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for you." And who might be his future rivals later. Confidence was good for skaters, however one bad score could sometimes serve as an abrupt wake-up call for those not prepared to take it. In a moment a great skater could crash from a markup. Fresh faces had to steel themselves to this reality - and hopefully push through.

The call came out for the skaters to start preparing for their warmup before they would be sorted in their divisions to preform. Moving away with a final way of good luck to all of them, he moved back to his coach to take off his jacket.

His outfit was that of black leather, the shoulders decorated with black crow feathers and small bones like gripping boned claws about his collarbone. It was just one outfit of the two of his theme : Frustration

It was a different change to his usual themes, which had been about persistence, overcoming obstacles, and focus. However, he was still well known for his music choices.

Heavy Metal.

Taking the ice, he moved with the others, moving about the rink effortlessly, not knew to the same movements and rink. He'd been here a few times, never able to get a medal but able to at least be present for greatness. He hadn't sold himself short by any means, but he did know greatness when he saw it and understood the goals he needed to attend. However, this year, he wasn't looking at a metal so much as to prove something - to serve as a message to his betraying coach.

He was here and his skating would serve as a message for him to hear how he felt.

Limber, he moved back to off the rink as the skaters took turns, watching but taking a drink of water as his coach hovered before moving close to him. "Don't be reckless. You can't afford to break your ankle again."

"If I don't push, I won't succeed. I won't break."

It wasn't long till it came to his turn and he moved to the center of the rink after it had been cleared and stood at the center. Compared to the gentle rythums of classical music, his was a stark contrast. The eye-liner he pulled off well - simple yet tatseful. Flirty even.

The music didn't ease too much, starting into a guitar melody where he kicked off, but as the vocals spiked, he kicked off. Each hard hit of percussion was accented either by a change of direction, a jump, before the chorus went down to softer lyrics and he changed to his footwork. It was a song and dance marked by aggression, frustration, and conflict.

He overturned a few times, too much force into his jumps but glad they met the height to counter, but he got too close to the sides as he made his turns as well. Gritting his teeth, he worked through it before it's final end and breathed out, gasping as he let the song die out and then left the rink.

Quote for good lucks from Melvin before their performances.

Harland Leander Belle watched the skater receive a near-perfect score, and laughed-- not because it was funny, but because he was so nervous he could choke.

"Don't choke up now, cowboy," his coach reassured him. It was maybe reassuring. It was also probably just a threat. Harland sometimes had trouble telling what his very handsome coach was trying to communicate. Harland also had serious listening problems.

He clapped very enthusiastically for the skater, Shiki. An impressive show. He then remembered he had to answer Coyote.

"Everythin'll be fine," Harland said, his Irish accent stark contrast to Coyote's southern one. Cowboy, the nickname that Coyote used when he wanted to bolster Harland's confidence. Something about cowboys had always gotten to the guy, even when he was little. It seemed like they could be the hero, he supposed, though no one had ever suggested that was the reason.

Harland wasn't dressed like a cowboy, this time. For this show, he was in sparkly white, with a cape-- sort of. It was modelled after Elvis' famous jumpsuit. He loved Elvis, and alongside cowboys, it really cheered him up to skate to that music.

He was far from classy, however. His routine was a little rough around the edges. Harland tried to warm up, but mostly he kept thinking about the earlier routines and felt a little inadequate.

In the end, he earned a pretty damn low score and at 72 points, did not expect to be going anywhere in skating.

Watching the juniors go was exciting and she felt herself become excited, her eyes drifting from the crowd they made to watch the performances, staring as Shiki moved on the ice. "Wow... he's really going for it, isn't he?" She smirked, watching him and turning her gaze to the other skaters - they all seemed to be watching and he looked back. That's how you do it, make them see what kind of competition they have to look forward to. She clapped at the end of his and watched the next skater move to the ice.

Excitement made her shiver as she watched Bing on the ice. "You got this!" She called out, smiling as she did well on her routine. Iyari could feel the competition mounting, and smiled at another man moving over to the ice. "Oh wow..." Her eyes watched him, the Elvis outfit making her smile. She noticed another man had moved in and moved to the side. "Ready to go out there?" She smiled at him, but once the other man moved off she pulled her gray sweater off to reveal her black and silver outfit.

Like a beacon, she felt her coach return form his escapades. She shot an annoyed look back at him, expecting some sort of long speech about seizing the day, or spouting off in Greek. Rather, he held up a hand with a thumb. "You skate good." He said, and in her annoyance she moved back to the ice abruptly. Really? That's all.. Rattled, she didn't get in a warm up lap before she heard her name called and the red-head moved to the center of the rink.

Passion... that's the muse... passion for life, passion for living...

Her music started and she started with a quick step movement to get into the swing of her routine, the black feathers in her hair moving with the breeze. The techno beat mixing into the song as she moved with it, staring with a toe loop as the music started, swaying her powerful legs along to it, moving her arms gracefully, twisting into another one and moving backwards, smiling as she did. This is what it is, this is life..

Her hips swayed to the music and she moved to another double jump. With her legs slightly larger she could feel her powerful muscles leading her along. I can keep up just fine with the men, just fine... Her eyes narrowed and she flew into her spin, extending her arms up to the music with a concentrated look on her face, stepping back out to a long loop around the ring. Dazzle. The voice in her head said.

The triple salchow followed, she'd fallen on it so many times...

...but this time she landed it!

Applause followed and she moved back into several more jumps, though she was already so tired as she neared her second half, landing several jumps, though settling along to skating with another spin close to the ice. While her routine wasn't as jump heavy as the famous skaters, she knew she had to do that last one. Slowly she build up the speed for it and moved into a quadruple loop along the ice, shaking with the music to make herself glitter more.

As it died down she felt herself in bliss and the music slowly faded and she panted, accepting the applause and she waved out, moving back to the edge to get her score. It was such a blur, so much time and prepping but now only mere moments and it was over.

It rang out... "...has scored 94..." She could hardly believe it and she smiled, clinging to the bird plush she'd been handed, not even caring. With some sense of ease, she moved back to watching the rest of the competitors with interest.

The arguing with their coach went one for a good long while. The duo seemed to be getting just how many rotations to put into a particular jump. Not that, like, the earlier argument was any different, but at this point it was bordering on semi- ridiculous. They were about to hit the world stage for another try and going to the grand prix and here they were, acting like what one might have called 'typical greeks' if not in polite company. It wasn't something that Crimson's fans seemed to mind however, cheering the young skater on well before it was even time to get on the ice to practice.

When the skates hit the ice though, the screaming in Greek started from a small section in the stands. It never mattered how badly per say that Crimson did, only that they looked good doing it and represented Greece well in the sense of not being too terrible. Not the hardest feat to accomplish but sometimes it got boring when your fans mostly cheered you on for the simple fact you were Greek and nothing else. Well, Crimson figured, if that was what made them happy and that was what they wanted to spend money on that was their choice. It was not like they would purposely do good or bad based on a few screaming people.

A short warm up before back in their box, the skater leaned on the railing as the first flash of skaters went out, scores varying all over the board. The one upstart getting the highest so far, something Crimson suspected was a matter of luck. Few youths got to the top and those who did often only made it that high riding on hard coaches and a brief token image. It was no secret that judges often took a fancy to certain skaters. Hell, some of them probably got points by name alone.

The bitterness in Crimson was kept to themselves as their performance came about. It wasn't flawless, but it also was not good. If anything, it was sub par, and they knew they'd get a scolding over the inevitable. Too many jumps, two falls. That was why you stuck with the program you worked on all season, no last minute throw ins.

Lure- Native American, USA- Dark skinned with brown hair, in a green forest nymph inspired semi sheer costume

War drums did little to stifle the fact that as they nervously smiled at the woman who in their opinion had a far more dazzling costume than themselves. Lure had little time for small talk, muttering out a meek thank you to her before wide eyes sent them back to their area, nervousness creeping back in. They were young to hit the ice, but it was worth it to go they had been told. Chance did not knock often and the winds did not always blow favorably.
Not to mention having a native skater in a time when all the world say of their people was protests and internal strife. To remind the world that they existed past the decades of oppression was good, and if Lure did well, it might help those who needed the spot light in other places. It was a lot of pressure, but the kind that Lure knew they could handle. It was just getting to that point. Watching other skaters do so well, Lure's eyes tracked them, knowing they might be outdone. Yet it was not worth giving up over, not worth bowing out and going home. Even if they went home empty handed, they could do the people proud.

"You are not alone you know." Behind them, their coach pat their arm, the smell of tobacco and sage soothing the teen's mind at they kept watching the other competators.
"But you must not allow yourself to think you are."
"I understand." It did not mean however that Lure felt so. As their time came, the ice felt welcoming but- The lights were bright, and as the music played, a peice crafted by a family freind to blend classical with their tribal, Lure almost felt like they could do this- until they fell. A miscalculation, they did not finish the spin properly, and the ice was unforgiving. Hard and cold it stole Lure's breath as they got back up.
By the end, Lure knew they might not rank. But they had been seen, and sometimes that was all it took.

Elio- Song chosen

Elio settled with giving the red head a wink as she navigated the gathering of young skaters around her. There was nothing wrong with a little friendly rivalry- or flirtation now was there? "It's always nice to see a pretty face out at the rink. Maybe after we can catch dinner." He figured he'd ask, smile wide as he sized up their competition. With the younger skaters it was harder to tell- they either fell short something fierce, or they shone brighter than any others. Skill and luck and practice. Everyone had their fair share of blood sweat and tears given to the rink and the sport, but it was all up to judges at the end of the day.

Humans who took in more than basic skill. You needed that edge, that catch o charm not just the audience but the judges as well. But never cater too much- then you were just another try hard.

"Looking forward to see what they bring out this year- maybe even see who unseats who yes?" He gave the red-head a small wave as he was called away by his coach, reminded to not be so much like a poster child for every Italian artist in history. Elio laughed it off before he hit the rink, doing a few practice footwork moves and frowning when he tripped over his own feet. Embarrassing, if only because even then the judges were watching.
"It's alright boyo. You haven't hit the ice hard enough to bleed."
"Color might help my display yeah?" Elio teased, though any blood on the ice would have spelled disaster.
"Elio-" He laughed, sitting down and relaxing as the other skaters went up one by one dazzling. So far- the first one held a firm lead, followed by-
"Oh Red." Elio smirked, letting the cameras see him openly stare. He had an Italian playboy image to upkeep after all. When her routine ended, he slide over near her before shouting,
"Bellisima! soggiornare per la mia prestazione sì?" He winked before rushing back to the gated station, getting ready.

His music was chosen for him, and like many others, captured a form of love. His was depth of love. And the song chosen an award winner. As the music rose, he let the song carry him, the images of waves, crashing to an unyeilding shore as a man fought to see his love again against a summer storm. But the waves were a fickle and cruel mistress, and cast him about like a doll, threatening to send him overboard. In the end he clung on, until finally the storm broke and he was reunited with his beloved.

A love as deep as the ocean- his theme. His jumps were landed, and he was just glad he'd not fallen in the step work, though it hand't been as tight as it could have been.

"---86!" He cheered as the number went out. Not at the top, but decent. A nice shot.

[ Etzer ]

Etzer had done a minor warm up on the ice, and tried to quell his jittery nerves as he waited.

At last, it was finally his turn.

The feeling didn't go away, however... as much as he'd warmed up, the feeling never really went away, the darkness unable to be kept down this time.

Before, he'd been able to detach himself from his feelings and just skate like he was a kind of sylph on air... but not this time. This time, he'd fumbled a few spins and wavered on his skates, sweat beading down his brow.

He hadn't even completed a full salchow.

He'd botched it pretty good, and it had cost him quite a few points.

He didn't hear the crowd or anyone else as his song ended, his feet taking him to the edge of the rink and walking him to the bench, sitting down rather abruptly.

Did he even care anymore? Was it even worth it...?

Putting his head in his hands, he tried in vain to get his breath back.

Out of the corner of her eye she noticed the other skater and gave him a smirk. "Maybe you should catch some air first?" Iyari was having a little fun as she moved over, smiling back at the Italian skater as he moved on the ice. "I guess we will see..."

She'd said it before leaving, but when she came back he was there again and she stared at him in confusion, shaking her head with a laugh as she watched his routine on the ice. He had a solid run, and she felt herself swaying to the music a bit. "So many nice songs..." It made her wonder about her own.. it'd be different in the short program, but she wanted to keep it interesting.

As he got his score she clapped, he was a curious guy for certain. She turned back to the other group, smiling warmly though she turned her head quickly so they didn't see. They'd all come so far...

Shiki timidly waited to see if the scores would be announced, he had changed into his next outfit, a tight form fitting grey outfit with something of an iridescent gauze hanging from his arms, sparkling like rainbow fire.

"Be Calm Aoe-chan, you did more than well in your last round."

He looked up at his coach and nodded, his cheeks still tinted a pale pink. He felt like a fever was running through his body. inhaling deeply he placed both of his palms on the wall and started to stretch his hips.

"No no, go to the rink down the hall and skate a bit and limber up. Don't worry about the standings at the moment, and put your jacket over your outfit before you tear it."

Shiki again nodded to his coach before heading off to skate a little, letting himself calm. It was good to have a coach that knew him so well. He would wait to be called back up before worrying.
