"You mustn't. There's nothing you could have done," she said softly, reaching over the table to put a hand over his. "The past can kill us. We must look to the future." She was pretty sure her own past would have killed her, living under that cruel witch, if it could really be called 'living' at all.
She smiled at the insistence that they would have been friends and chose to not correct him. Interacting with anyone, let alone a young hybrid man from elsewhere, would earn her some punishment. That was if she was allowed out of the house at all, which she was not for weeks at a time. The market had been her only freedom, and even then it was often with more experienced slaves and the usual rules. They never would have been friends, but they got to be now. That was all that mattered.

She was right, but it was such a hard thing to do after so long. He didn't really know the answer just the question. Why? Why couldn't everyone see past the differences that made each person unique instead of pointing them out and mocking them and destroying lives with no really good excuse, not even a hey that person stole my pet kind of thing. He shook his head slowly and put his other hand on top of hers. She was strong, stronger then him he was sure. His rock, he but an oyster clinging to her strength. Her hand felt so small under his, delicate. "Did you have other family? Or are they gone?"

"I don't know," Trelenwy admitted with a little shrug. "I must have a mother and father somewhere out there, but I don't remember them. The other slaves were my family, but we've all moved on. I haven't seen any in quite a while. Nobody wants to remember the past."
Again, it wasn't about the past. It was about the future and maybe, just maybe, this moment right here.

"I have no urge to return home, for a long time." This was home, and it always would be. He rubbed her hand between his playfully, done with the serious drama of the moment before. "Matori is my home and what a beautiful home it is. Sun, sand, sea, you. Paradise couldn't get better." He smiled happily at her. He was now quite addicted to those coconut things too.

"You're a flatterer," she teased. She took her hand from him then, still smiling, and picked the candies up between both hands. "Where should I put these for you?"

"That drawer over there would be good, if they are out I'll just eat them like a little kid until they are gone." He dipped his head half ashamed. He took a deep breath and stood stretching a little, he had been sitting for too long. "Fancy a walk on the beach my lady?" He tilted his head at her inquisitively. Would she come with him? He would follow her to where the sky touched the water if he could.

"Sure," Trenelwy responded. She put the candies into the drawer, wrapped the remaining bread in the fabric that had been laid over it, and put it away too out of the free air. Then she turned toward Theriar and held out a hand. The beach was the way from which she had come, but she didn't mind going back, not with him. Besides, they could walk the beach nearer to him, where she rarely went. The beaches in town were not as relaxing as the ones at home, at least not the idea of them.

He accepted her hand and led her out onto the beach which was quiet fortunately for them. Peaceful even. He let the rhythym of their footsteps lull him a little before leaning over and kissing her temple. This of course only made him want more. He paused and claimed her lips properly. He felt like he was glowing from the inside out. He was so fortunate to have this wonderful person by his side.

The walk was pleasant, at least for a while. The kiss on the temple made her close her eyes, but then they stopped. Her eyes opened and she peered up at Theriar. What? Had he seen something? She looked out toward the calm sea and then back to him, and he captured her lips.
For a moment she was stunned. As far as these things went, she had been the one making the moves. Apparently Theriar had enjoyed it. It was only a moment, however, and she relaxed. She lifted a hand to cup his cheek and closed her eyes again. The kiss was returned with the same gentle firmness.

He let her take the lead then, his job apparently done, she would be the one to control the things since she had so gracefully accepted his suggestion. He was sure he would have paused too had she started the kiss. The cool sea breeze brushed by his heated face and he felt so alive and free. He had no idea what came after kissing, but he knew he was a fan of the kissing itself. His parents never had had that talk with him both having shrunk somewhat inside themselves. So he would just have to discover it with her, perhaps, eventually, maybe. For now he was more than content with the proceedings.

The kisses became slightly more open-mouthed, but Trelenwy really was flying by the seat of her skirts. She had no idea what she was doing. She only had instincts and acquired knowledge to work from. The kiss broke with a sigh, though, and she grinned up at him.
"I've never kissed a man before." Not even once.

"Me either, whats it like?" He waggled his eyebrows at her, wondering if she was going to smack him. "Your the first one for me too, I've never really wanted to kiss anyone else." He shrugged, "I don't even know what comes after kissing, my parents never told me and my grandparent was a tree on both sides so...." He shrugged. The waves whispered up the beach and he spotted two beady eyes in the water. "Do you suppose that is a snaptrotter out there?"

Trelenwy's brows raised and her eyes widened. Her head tilted slightly forward. Well then. Her smile reappeared after just a moment and she touched his face again, this time caressing his jaw. He really was very handsome, wasn't he? She wrapped her arms around him and thumped against his chest just as he asked about animals.
Oh. Well then.
"No," she said, and then actually looked out toward it. Huh. They didn't usually go out that far. At least not the ones she had seen! "Maybe..."
Of course, logically, she began to head toward it.

He was just about to enfold her in his arms when she walked away to go look at the creepy eyes floating in the water. She was so brave, he was not sure how close they should get but surely with it that far out they would at least get a running chance, "I've never heard of a shark doing that." The eyes blinked at them slowly. But nothing could be seen of its body. He was creeped out somewhat, the unknown just floating there in the water...staring. "Do you know of anything else that does that Trel?"

"No."
She only got so far before she recognized the shape of the eyes. That was no alol. Rather than make it angry she turned her back to it and headed away. She was listening closely, of course, in case it came after her, but they weren't especially aggressive. She wasn't exactly fish.
"It is! Looks like a young one!" She glanced behind her to make sure it wasn't coming.
