Laurel looked to Yuri as though he were speaking a foreign language at first, before his expression softened to that of contemplation. So, Yves had used the phone to talk to his dad from far away? But how far? Where did Yves and Yuri come from? His eyebrows furrowed the more Yuri spoke and his lips puckered.
"You... Have one?" He questioned, giving Yuri a once over. "No? Where? I don't see it.""Because what Yuri has is called a cell phone." Oliver explained, knowing that the probability of his words making sense was little. "It's a small phone, one you can hold in your hand and take with you when you leave the house."Cell phone? That was an entirely new phrase! Laurel huffed and shook his head. None of this made any sense at all! How could you talk to someone far away when they weren't with you? What difference did this phone make?
He looked to Yuri curiously and, though still unsure, slowly nodded at his suggestion. Okay, he could try to use this phone and see if he understood what it was afterward. He took a breath and hovered quickly over to pick it up.
"Hello? Yves phone?" He said, holding the phone upside down and eyeing the other men suspiciously. "... Why is it making this buzzy noise? How do I make it stop?"

Yuri opened his mouth, but didn't say anything. Instead, he drifted over to his coat, where his cell phone was safely tucked away in one of the pockets. He took it out and unlocked it after only a couple of tries.
"Oliver," he called, tapping on his phone screen. "What's your number? We can call so Laurel can use the phone." He looked up, expression serious. "Phones are really important."
Grabbing his own cell phone, Yves flipped to his contacts page and scooted up next to Yuri. "We have his number, silly. Here, watch this. I am going to go into the next room now. Laurel, can you put the phone back, s'il vous plaît?"
Sensing that he might be needed, Yuri floated over and helped Laurel stick the phone back into its dock. He then looked at Laurel, then Yves, and nodded silently.
Having relocated himself into the next room over, Yves called Oliver's home phone number from his cell phone.
It took a few seconds, but the phone began to ring. Yuri stood back and raised his eyebrow at Laurel. "Go ahead," he encouraged. "Pick it up. You can talk to my dad like he's right here with that."

Laurel watched Yves carefully and, after flipping the phone over a dozen times, placed it back onto the wall. However, he didn't understand what going into the next room would do that would help him figure this out and hovered toward the next room to watch Yves. What was that small thing he had? It looked like a box. How did a box relate to any of this? He grimaced in confusion.
Then the phone rang.
"Ah! That weird noise again!" He shouted, his shoulders tensing. He didn't know if he liked this noise, or really any loud noises he'd heard so far. Thus, when Yuri prompted him to pick up the phone again, he hesitated. Did he really want to touch the source of the noise? That seemed like a really bad idea. He gave Yuri a bit of an odd look and reached for the phone.
"... Yves phone?" He said, his voice shaking and uncertain. "Wait, Laurel." Oliver interrupted. "When you answer the phone, you should always say hello first, then ask who's calling.""O-oh... Hello? Is this Yves phone?" Laurel asked, brows furrowing.

Yves laughed into the receiver and then leaned out to peek into the other room where Laurel and the others were. He dropped his voice so he wouldn't be heard simply due to the short distance and responded cheerily, "Oui, bonjour, Laurel! Does it sound like I am right next to you? This is a skill you need early on, phones are très useful!"
Yuri watched them for a few moments, and then decided he couldn't wait anymore and hurried into the next room with Yves. Floating right up next to his guardian, Yuri stared at the phone in Yves' hand until Yves relented with another laugh. "All you have to do is ask," he reminded with a tut.
Yuri held the phone up to his ear - he felt that phones weren't really made for his wolf ears, but he made due - and drifted even farther into the house, where they would likely not be able to hear him unless they were on the other end of the phone. He didn't know how good Laurel's hearing was, but he guessed it was pretty good, like his, so he went all the way upstairs before greeting Laurel.
"Hi, Laurel," Yuri said into the phone, drifting to a stop in an empty room. He didn't know which room it was, but he felt pretty comfortable in Oliver's home, so he hoped he wouldn't mind that he'd wandered off.
"Laurel, ask your dad for a phone as soon as you can," Yuri instructed, his voice suddenly growing serious. "I got lost once, and if I didn't have a phone, um... I would still be lost. So you should make sure you ask for a phone." He waited and then nodded at his reflection in a mirror on the wall, pleased with himself for delivering such an important bit of advice to his newest friend.
"Oh! Um, tell Oliver I said hi, please," he added sheepishly.

Laurel's ears shot straight up and pinned back as Yves spoke and he held the phone away from himself in order to stare at it. ... He didn't like how Yves had disappeared back into the phone again, and it only made him more wary of keeping it close to his face. What if he disappeared while he used it too? His shoulders stiffened.
"O-okay, but can you come back now?" He asked, shakily. "I don't think I like thi-"
Yuri's voice sent Laurel's ears back up again, and he quickly spun around to look for him. Oh no! The phone had made Yuri disappear, too, and he was going to be next! ... Or worse. He looked toward Oliver and gasped. It could make his father disappear! He slammed the phone back onto it's stand and rushed to Oliver's side.
"Stay away from that thing, dad! It's not a good thing!" He shouted."What are you talking about, Laurel? Calm down!" Oliver exclaimed, reaching out to grab Laurel's shoulder. "The phone is perfectly safe, you're just not used to it ye-"
The sound of the phone clattering to the floor caught him mid-breath and all he could do was stare in awe as the stand followed suit, leaving a lovely hole in the wall where it had been. He processed this slowly, breathed, and patted Laurel on the back.
"Okay, looks like your first shopping trip with me is to the electronics store!" He said, dumbfounded.

With all of the commotion, Yves and Yuri were instantly rushing back into the room where Oliver, Laurel, and a now-decimated phone stood. Yves held both hands up and pressed them to his forehead in shock.
"A-ahh?!" Yves yelped, and Yuri followed suit with a surprised bark of a noise.
"Laurel, are you okay?" Yuri rushed to his side and touched a hand to his shoulder. He gave him a concerned once-over, unsure of what level of carefulness he should be taking with the newly born Raevan. Laurel looked tough, like him, but even with Yuri's physique, he was sensitive in other ways. He felt Laurel could be the same, too.
Yves held his own face in his hands; between his fingers, he had turned a brilliant shade of red.
"Oh, my god. I am so, so sorry."
After taking a few moments to compose himself, Yves began fumbling in his pocket for his wallet. Still bright red in the face, he stammered, "Um, ah... I-I do not have very much on me, but... j-just send me the bill! I am so sorry, I..."

Suddenly Yves and Yuri were back again, and Laurel was one hundred percent sure that it was because he'd slain the evil person-snatching device. He puffed up a bit, both out of nervousness and pride, and turned to Yuri with a growing grin on his face.
"I'm okay now! I defeated the bad thing, so you won't disappear anymore!" He beamed, a hand moving to grasp Yuri's shoulder. "Are you okay? Did it hurt you?"Oliver, after taking a moment to make sure that Laurel was okay with him moving, quickly turned to Yves and waved his hands about.
"No, there's no need for you to do that! I needed to replace that phone anyway!" He laughed, giving what remained of it a once over. "It's time I upgraded to the latest models. I can't have an old cord phone forever! It's just a sign of how old I am, honestly."
He bent and scooped up the phone, before gasping as the handset popped open and fell to the ground. Flabbergasted, he turned to Laurel.
"You've got some strength, don't you?" He said, his gaze turning back to Yves. "I've never seen anything like this... It's been practically shattered!"

Yuri's eyes followed Laurel's hand, and he clasped his hand in his own and nodded, expression serious. "I'm fine. It can't hurt me, it's a phone. Um, I'm more worried about you, honestly." He gave Laurel a once over and decided he, too, was unharmed, and his shoulders relaxed a little.
"You know... um, Laurel? Phones are a good thing." He let go of his hand and rubbed his neck, sheepishly glancing toward Oliver. "Maybe we can try again another time. I'm sorry, Oliver..."
"It isn't your fault, Yuri," Yves cut in. Reluctantly, he put his wallet away, his mouth pulled down into a frown. "It was my fault, I got excited. Every Raevan is different, non?"
Yuri nodded to himself, and then he beamed at Laurel when Oliver mentioned his strength. "Just like me," he chimed in. Despite the circumstances, a smile had formed on his face. "We can work out together sometime. Um, if you want to, anyway..."
Yves shook his head at Laurel and Yuri. "How cute," he mused. He turned to face Oliver again, looking downtrodden. "Oliver, I really do want to make that up to you. Ah, perhaps I can... maybe I could buy your lunch one of these days? Or... I don't know. Any way I could make it up to you." He looked over at the hole in the wall and winced.

Laurel tilted his head. Worried about him? He was fine! ... Though maybe he was a little shaky. There was this feeling that he couldn't describe. It felt like a lot of things were happening all at once and he couldn't get to them all fast enough. Would Yuri know what that felt like, though? He seemed to know a lot more than he did, so maybe? The cheetah's lips pursed.
"Are you sure? It made you disappear, though! How is that good?" He asked, a look of deep concern and confusion on his face."Yes, another time, and neither of you are at fault!" Oliver reiterated, shaking his head and moving to pat Laurel on the back. "I'm sure he's just feeling a bit overwhelmed. Everything takes time to get used to, he'll get through these things in his own time. There's no need to rush."Overwhelmed. Somehow that word fit how Laurel felt perfectly. However, the next thing to figure out was how to stop feeling that way. He looked to Yuri curiously.
"Work out? What's that?" He asked.Oliver smiled, before laughing again at Yves. Lunch, huh? Well, he couldn't really say no to that offer now, could he?
"If you insist, but, only if we go to your favorite place." He said, smiling. "If that's alright with you, of course."

Yuri shook his head. "I didn't disappear. But it's hard to explain. Some day you'll get it, like I did." At Laurel's next question, he flexed his arms in a pose. "Work out, it makes me tired but I feel good from it. It makes me stronger. When I'm restless, it makes me feel better."
"We?" Yves echoed, his eyebrows raising a bit. He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting; that he'd drop off something for Oliver, maybe, or that he'd simply hand Oliver money at some point in time and say, 'Go get whatever you want! But Oliver wanted him to go, too.
He did his best to push it to the back of his mind. He did tend to read too much into things, after all.
"Ah... I think that could be arranged," he replied with a crooked smile. "But I already owe you coffee, too, don't I?" Not that any reasonable amount of lunches or coffee would be able to cover the cost of fixing Oliver's very antique-looking house, but it was a start.
Well, he still had... that. He patted his pocket where his wallet was. Would he be able to do it? Panic was welling slowly in his chest, but it was different than the kind of panic one felt when they saw a giant hole in someone else's wall. It was a weird, nagging little noise.
Dismissing his thoughts, Yves cast one last, forlorn look toward the wall before bringing his full attention back to the group. "At least let me help clean up, and then... and then we will get out of your hair, Oliver. Once again, I am so sorry for this, I fear we may have overwhelmed poor Laurel. I would hate to continue to distress him."
Yuri looked disappointed, but he crossed his arms and nodded solemnly, like he understood. He wanted nothing more than to hang out all day with Laurel -- how fun would it have been to go exploring outside? -- but he knew when his guardian was becoming distressed and didn't want that to happen to Laurel, too.

Laurel watched Yuri flex and only seemed to get further confused. However, maybe he'd understand it better if he copied Yuri? He turned, flexed, and looked to the other Raevan for approval.
"Like this? This is work out?" He asked. Yves owed him a coffee? Oliver's expression seemed to mimic Laurel's for a moment before settling again. ... He didn't remember that. Was he going daft? Well, whatever, it didn't matter. He didn't want or need any favors.
"Oh, don't worry about getting me a coffee or anything! I've told you it's fine." He said, sighing and smiling. "Going out to lunch is fine, and even that is more than enough."
He made a face at Yves' next sentence. Get out of his hair? Come on, really? He reached out for Yves' shoulder.
"You and Yuri never have to get out of our hair, I don't want to hear any of that nonsense. You've always been nothing but a pleasure." He scolded, glancing. "We can certainly clear this up, but you've only just got here less than ten minutes ago. Please at least stay for tea. I'm sure if we all settle down in the living room for a bit, he'll be fine."

"Um, no, well... not quite." Yuri looked around for something to lift, and his eyes rested on a vase nearby. With the utmost care he picked it up and then proceeded to do a few awkward curls with his arm. "See? You have to engage your muscles, and it usually helps to use something to add some, um, some weight. The more you do that, the stronger you get."
He wrinkled his nose and tried to think of how better to explain it. "If I had legs, I could go running, too. But I can do push-ups. Kind of. There's a lot you can do. Does that make any sense?"
He pointed to Laurel's shoulder, and then gestured up and down to draw attention to the cheetah's arm. "You seem strong, so I thought you could come with me sometime... the gym gets boring when it's just me." Personally, he thought it went without saying, but Yves wasn't a huge fan of going to the gym.
Yves saw Oliver's expression of confusion and stifled a laugh behind his hand. "Maybe I'm getting confused. S'il vous plaît, just let me pay you back!" He went to give Oliver's shoulder a playful push, but stopped midway when Oliver's hand found his own shoulder. It caused him to blink, and he hesitated for a couple of seconds, unsure.
"Are... are you sure?" he asked, searching Oliver's face. He knew Yuri wanted to stay, and he did, too, but he hated to be a bother. He always felt like he was imposing himself on others, which usually kicked in his flight mode. Yuri had told him once that he was dramatic, and he'd sounded just like his sister when he'd said it. Well, it might have had some truth to it, but...
He couldn't help but chuckle a little, shaking his head with a pained look on his face. "Look at what we caused in ten minutes! Oui, I would hate to see the destruction I could incite if given an hour."
He looked up at Oliver through his lashes. "Sorry, Oliver, I suppose I'm the one who is overwhelmed. But I can't imagine how Laurel must be feeling, how selfish of me."
Although it wasn't necessary, Yves placed his hand on Oliver's arm to support himself, and then he leaned around him a bit and asked, "Laurel, are you alright, darling? I am so sorry for scaring you."

Oh, okay, that wasn't right, but what was Yuri doing now? The cheetah's ears swiveled and twitched as he watched the other Raevan fiddle with the vase and seemed to slightly nod to himself. Engage your muscles, use something with weight, strength. The words metaphorically bopped him on the nose and faded, but the demonstration kind of helped it make sense. He reached for a potted plant on the ground and mimicked Yuri's curls.
"I think I get it, but I don't understand some of the other things you said." He replied, gently placing the pot down again. "Maybe you can show me more? At the... Gym?"Again, if Yves insisted on paying him back, Oliver wasn't going to complain. He just didn't want the younger man to feel obligated or pressured. He nudged Yves back with a laugh.
"Of course I'm sure!" He exclaimed, rolling his eyes. "Oh, come on now, Yves! Accidents happen, and none of this was your fault. Believe me when I say that my dog has caused far more damage to his house in five minutes than what happened today. It's alright."
He looked upon the younger blond with a smile, before his lips gradually formed a contemplative purse. Well, he did have a point there, but it wasn't Yves or Yuri that was being selfish. It would be him, no less, the one who decided to pull a surprise meet-and-greet the day after Laurel was born. In hindsight, this did seem like a lot of stimulation for a newborn to go through. Hell, he wasn't even a full day old yet. The professor looked to his son and took a breath.
"Yeah, I should be asking you too, Laurel. Are you alright? Do you want them to come back another time?" He asked.Laurel turned slowly and, first, looked to Yves. ... When had Yves scared him? As far as he was concerned, the phone was the scariest thing around here! He opened his mouth to reply before getting caught by what Oliver was saying. Then, his expression became rather serious.
"I'm okay, there's just a lot of stuff I don't get yet." He explained, moving to hover beside Yuri. "But I don't want Yuri and Yves phone to go away again! I'm not scared of them, it was just the-uh..."
He paused and pointed down to the obliterated phone.
"That. That's scary." He continued, folding his arms and looking to Yves and then to Yuri. "But you aren't. I like you. You can stay."

Yves beamed, and Yuri look quite pleased, too. His rune glowed a slightly more vibrant green when Laurel expressed his liking to them.
"I'm glad," Yuri mumbled, rubbing his neck sheepishly. "Um, when I was first born, there was a lot of stuff that scared me, too. I would hardly even talk to anyone."
"Now he is quite the chatterbox," Yves offered with a broader smile. His eyes practically sparkled. "He is still shy around others, but he opens up quickly. I'm very proud of how far he's come."
Yuri blushed at the compliments, unsure of what to do with them. "It's not, um... it's not that big of a deal."
Yves shook his head. "Always the modest one. Laurel, maybe your energy can inspire Yuri to be more open with others!" He grinned at Yuri, who turned away and tried to hide a smile. Despite his guardian's teasing, Yuri was pleased to meet Laurel and secretly hoped that they would be able to hang out again soon. He had so much to show him!
Clapping his hands together, Yves rocked back on his heels with a restless bounce. "Oliver, I really don't know what to say. You're always putting up with me. Tea would be lovely, would you like some help in preparing it?"
Sensing an opportunity, Yuri looked at Laurel with raised brows. "Wanna play outside?" he asked, eagerness trickling into his voice.

His energy? Laurel tilted his head. He didn't quite grasp what Yves meant, or understood why he made his eyebrows wiggle like that, but as he was already struggling to understand so many other things, he didn't really want to add to the pile. Instead, he focused on Yuri, who he felt made the most sense.
"Play outside?" He said, his brows flexing. "What would we do?""Well, as long as you two promise to stay in the front yard, you could play catch?" Oliver interjected, giving Yuri a wink. "I would say you could take a stroll, but since Laurel's not familiar with the area yet, I think it would be best to stay close to home. Right, Yuri?"
Hoping that his message had been heard, Oliver returned his attention to Yves and shook his head.
"Honestly, you make it sound as though you're a bother when you've never once bothered me since the day we met." He replied, giving a light chuckle. "But I digress! I would be delighted if you would help me with the tea, and we'll let the boys get better acquainted without us hovering around."
