Quote: 1: You hear a snuffling animal sound at the front door and it immediately perks your interest, so you run out to explore -- and find the family pet, collar jangling, trying to get back inside. A dead end. "That bloody dog nearly scared the crap out of me," Rob grumbled as the dog ran off. He turned to Misha, a look of exasperation on his face. "This is bullshit. We're getting ******** with this--" Before he could continue his hissed complaining, he heard more rustling over near the circle. Drawing his greatsword, he signalled for Misha to hang back and crept toward the source of the sound. "If it's that dog again…" he muttered under his breath to himself. Using the tree as a shield, he readied his sword for attack, wondering all the while what sort of creature Circe had turned Joe into. If this was Joe. For all he knew, it could be some other hapless kid. Two glowing eyes shone out at him from the bushes. Rob then heard the sound of hissing, and a cat emerged from behind the tree, its tail puffed up and a scared, wary look on its face. "A cat." He straightened and gestured at the animal as it hissed again and ran away. "See?" he groused in a half-whisper, twisting around to look at Misha again. "Bloody nowhere."

Quote: 3: You decide to investigate the back yard, where you find more animal prints, the obvious signs of some digging, and a hole through the back fence. Misha put her hand on Rob's shoulder and squeezed him through his coat. "Hang in there, hon," she murmured. "It's not the cat's fault. I just wish Circe and her followers weren't so damn chicken. I don't think they were hugged enough as kids." With that, she offered him a fleeting smile and went back to peering at the ground. Various animal prints covered the ground as well as a few abortive attempts at digging. She was no tracker, though. She could not make heads or tails of which prints where which.

Quote: 5: You head out to investigate around town, pausing at a local hangout spot to ask some around about the victim. They give you some information about hobbies and personal life, but nothing particularly useful. "I wonder if we should go back and talk to those kids again," Rob pondered with a scowl, looking back in the direction they'd come from. Misha's squeeze of his shoulder did help calm him and take his mind off of murdering the cat. "Maybe if we jogged their memories a bit more, they could give us some helpful information."

A dead end. "Maybe but I'm not going to let you beat them up, Rob. We'll kill them with kindness." Misha gifted her grumpy friend with another of her gloriously sweet smiles. A faint jingling sound caught her attention before she could add anything else, however, and she spun on her heel to search the area with sharp eyes. A lone dog paused at the edge of the playground, looked back at her, and cocked its head to one side. Then it barked once, before turning around and trotting towards a house. " Merde."

Quote: 6: Some locals tell you that they've heard strange sounds at night in the local elementary school's playground. You head out there and find more signs of wildlife, as well as the smudged remains of a magic circle and scattered herbs. "Geezus, that dog bloody near scared the ******** outta me." Rob's heart was pounding, and he took a couple of breaths to calm down. As soon as he had settled down, he made his way back to the circle and peered at the ground where the dog had been. "Look, the prints the stupid ********' mutt left. They're different than these," he said, pointing to a set of larger canine prints. Much larger. "Either there's been a lot of dogs through here, or we're dealing with something wolf-sized..."

She watched Rob study the prints for a moment but then gave up trying to understand the dusty mess and turned to look back in the direction they had left the teenagers. Maybe he was right. Maybe they should find those kids again and coax some more information from them.

It obliterated one of the pawprints and she found herself in a state of spectacular Not-Caring. "I'm just worried he ran off into the desert."

He peered out at the darkness, toward the mountains at the edge of town. "That would make things... difficult."

Quote: 2: In the victim's bedroom you find their journal/diary. It contains normal entries, but the last few talk about a strange woman's attempt to recruit them to some kind of magic club. "Really difficult." Misha wrinkled her nose. Then she dug a hand into her pocket and drew out what Rob immediately recognized as Joseph's journal. She caught his eye and grinned without an ounce of shame. "What? It's evidence." Flicking the journal open, she turned to the final pages to study them once more. "Just wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything in here. A phone n umber would be nice, right?"

Quote: 4: Taking the victim's car keys, you decide to search their car -- and find a paper bag with some candles and two Moly Flowers in the backseat. You can collect and keep them. "Right." Rob eyed Misha as she thumbed through the journal. It did seem a little intrusive, but they were looking for clues on someone's disappearance -- under the circumstances, nothing was out of bounds. Not even a private journal. He gave a deep sigh and looked around again, his gaze landing on Joseph's car. "Wonder if we should search that again," he nodded in the vehicle's direction. "Might be he left a number or something in there on accident."

"We could but I think we beat that horse dead." Misha sighed, giving into a moment of frustration as she lifted a hand to rub at her forehead. "Where else do you think we can look?"

"Not a clue, love. I know abso-bloody-lutely nothing about this town." The frustration was starting to show on Rob's face too, and in his voice, and he sighed deeply. "We could always ask them kids if they know of anywhere else he hung out. If they're still there," he added, glancing in the direction they'd originally come from.

Misha turned back to the circle of confused foot and pawprints. Carefully, she crouched at the edge and poked at a piece of crushed greenery with a finger. "Do you really think he's gone all animal-y?"
