For the longest time he thought he wanted to do exactly what his sister did. They were twins after all so why wouldn't he like what she liked? Do what she did? But after training with Shura for a few weeks, and being exhausted beyond belief, Dovian wasn't so sure he wanted to be a fighter. Not in the same sense that his sister did. he skill would be nice to know but he didn't see himself taking it farther than a skill to have handy in case things got bad.
He thought at first that his sister would be upset that he didn't want to do the same thing, but the more he thought about it the more he realized she would likely be relieved. It meant that she wouldn't have to slow her workouts for him and that she wouldn't need to worry so much about his getting hurt. Not like their first time trying to train. Of course that had mostly been his fault since he had stepped in front of his sibling's fist. Dovian knew he likely would have done the same thing if he were able to do it all over again. It worried him that Shura might not stop hitting the girl if she had started.
Now he sat in his room making something once more. He'd become quite good at making things lately. When he had free time he usually stayed inside so that he could tinker around with different materials. Dovian had asked his dad for some cheap stuff so that he could practice on it. So far he was good at making thin gloves and arm bracers. He could even sew in some designs. Nothing too fancy though. His skills for that hadn't improved that much. Dovian was working on it though. He wanted to be able to sew a fancy design into a pair of gloves for his sister eventually.
He might even see about making things for his mom to wear. He noticed that she had changed her outfit recently. Or really her shoes. Normally she wore boots everywhere but now she was wearing something a bit more... girly.
And that was when it dawned on him. Instead of trying to become a brawler like his sister, he could he a weapon maker. Or a tailor. What was the right word for something like that? A blacksmith!
The boy smiled to himself as he thought about the whole thing. Being a blacksmith would mean that he would get to make weapons and armor all the time for people. It would also give him the skills to work metals and leathers. He could just picture making a set of gauntlets out of tough leather for his sister. He could brand the leather and sew it with a large needle so that they really stood out. Dovian would also be able to make a trident for his mother that would really tell the story of who she was. Etching couldn't be too hard could it? Maybe he would have to give it a try at some point. Did he have the right tools though? Not likely.
"I'll have to ask dad about getting some tools." Dovian looked to the materials he had at his side and then grinned. There was no blacksmith in the small village that they lived in but he could ask to be sent to one so that he could learn. Of course that meant that he would have to be away from his family. If his sister would allow it. A chuckle left him. Dovian suspected that he may need to take Shura with him or have the blacksmith come to him. Neither option bothered him. In truth he enjoyed having his sister around. He always had someone to talk to and look out for him.
Giving his full attention back to his task he wondered if he might be able to make the design that was sewn into them a bit more fancy. If he could then he could use that as an example of his skills and hopefully impress his potential mentor. It would mean a lot to him to get the best teacher but he would be willing to settle for learning the basics from a run of the mill blacksmith. After all, he would need to start somewhere. It wasn't like what his sister needed. He didn't have to worry about correcting his stance or follow through once learned a certain way. All he wanted to learn was how to work leather and melt the metals needed to create things. If he could figure that out then he would be doing good.
Since he would eventually be working with metals then he would need to keep up his training so that he could build up the muscle he would need. Dovian didn't imagine that working metals would be easy and having the extra muscle to get it to do what he wanted would be useful. So that meant that he would have to ask his sister to work with him more on the muscle end of training rather than the endurance side. He appreciated being able to outrun the gaggle of giggling girls but he'd appreciate the muscle to do his job more. "Won't Shuu just love that." He laughed to himself. His poor sister would have to slow her physical workouts more than her running to help him out.
