A large crow stalked its way over, eventually swooping up to perch on the back of Eve's chair like it belonged there. As Eve gave the bird a skillful chin scratch (which, like a magic button, caused it to fluff up with contentment immediately) she looked to the confused young man and answered, "Yes." Leila accepted the sandwich half with relieved, effusive thanks, carefully tearing it into smaller bites to share with Eve and anyone else in the group who wanted some.

Shun had to wonder what the woman's idea of what a detective looked like if his face was 'too pretty' to be one. Did she think that detectives were all grizzled older men with five o'clock shadows and the like? He nodded once to Eve, Leila, and Juniper as they all came around. It seemed that they had a small group who ended up here, in that case. There was still a possibility that others were around too. "Looks like we are getting back together, then," he nodded to Juniper, keeping things vague for now. "You could say we have not been in town for... a long time," he answered Algernon, "I do look forward to this concert, though. It seems as though it will be quite the event."The detective paused, then held a hand out for a shake. "Shun Kuroda."

"Jack Carver," Ashton smiled, since they seemed to be introducing themselves - and it wasn't a lie, anyways, he'd gone by Jack before. It wasn't like people didn't use their middle names. He gave an offhanded wave to Juniper and a more excited one to Eve and Leila, eyebrows raised in surprise. "I didn't expect to see us all here, actually -- seems like the city's got a call to it this week...but everyone can appreciate a concert for a good cause, I suppose."

Kaleb was exhausted. Change didn't come easy to him, and the energy required for the quiet teen to just make it through the day was almost more than he had in him. If he were back in his own era he would have curled up somewhere quiet with a book while he recovered from the stress, but here he had no books, and no quiet places that were his alone.
However, he was driven by the knowledge that there were books and quiet places out there, even if they were shared books and shared quiet. That was how Kaleb ended up walking through the throngs of students on the college campus, braving the clusters of bodies and talk and noise on his way to the hopeful sanctuary that was the college library.
He was not overly mindful of his surroundings, keeping his head down and looking at the people around him only enough to keep from bumping into anyone. The nervous teen had no idea he was passing very close to some of his fellow time-travellers.

Seemed that there were quite a few of them who were here. Juniper offered Leila and Eve a nod of her head in greeting. She may not know the pair, at all, but she had certainly recognized them. Was there a chance that more were here than this little gathering? "Juniper Wilcox." She smiled at everyone as names were passed around. "I got an invite to that party before. It sounds like a blast!" "On the road?" She glanced at Shun with a raised eyebrow. Was that his cover story? Well, it was something she could at least work with but she was vaguely surprised. Unless of course it was from Mr. Pink hair? "Uh, yea. Definitely." She had no idea what sort of 'on the road' was intended though and so kept her answer short. With the growing gathering, Juniper was keeping her eyes peeled for anyone else that might be floating in the area. Maybe something was pulling them all here? Who knew? She couldn't really feel the magic anymore, not like she had when in Modern Ashdown, but that didn't mean that something couldn't be at play. It certainly wouldn't surprise her. And, as if on cue, she caught sight of a familiar head. It disappeared behind a grouping of college students who were talking animately to one another, but she caught sight of him again as he walked past. She recognized him from the woods. "HEY!" Juniper smiled and waved her hand, she put down her Violin case knowing the others wouldn't let someone snatch it away and hurried over to nab him so he wouldn't miss the group. "Juniper." She said in introduction as she reached his side. "There's a group of us here. Come on over, relax a bit. We should all reconnect." She gave him a wink. "Just go with the flow of the conversation and you'll be set." With a smile she practically pulled him over to the group whether he liked it or not. everyone else in the group

Kaleb had ignored the shout, naturally assuming it was someone from the college crowd being hailed. But realizing the lady was actually right at his side, talking to HIM, was incredibly startling for the freckled teen. He was about to apologize that she had mistaken him for someone else, but the words died before they could even form on his tongue. She did look familiar. He had seen her in that place with the books, amongst the crowd that had been milling around between their era and the current one. Even more remarkable, as Kaleb let himself be tugged towards the other group he picked out more familiar faces. The face of the stern detective was particularly reassuring, Shun had known a great deal about the magic of Ashdown, and the Kaleb could only hope he had a similar insight into their current predicament. Juniper didn't have to worry about him blowing their cover with conversation, he was so swept away by the situation he didn't even think to reply with his name.

"Algernon," He took Shun's hand with a very firm and decidedly normal handshake. His voice may have been familiar to some, though less ripened with age, and his British accent was a bit conspicuous. Alg was thin, late twenties, and fit very snugly into a slim cut suit. Some would call it mod by the pencil tie. Jack was given a nod, Juniper also. His eyes drifted to Leila a couple of times while she ate a sandwich but the subtle squint of his green eyes meant he was looking closer at her, like he was trying to place her face, but let it go to look at the others. The crow was a bit weird.... very weird actually.."Ah, Maren-" She got a nudge and point to Kaleb who was newly arrived and wasn't holding a flier.

A bluejay with odd hazel eyes landed beside Algernon and gave him a sternly disapproving look.

"Algernon?" Eve asked, with clear surprise, unable to stop herself. Leila, meanwhile, choked briefly on a bite of sandwich. Both of them gave the bluejay a little look of acknowledgement.

"Rylan," he offered, and gestured to his companion. "She's Ves." Algernon? Seemed they'd managed to find the right place to start. Ves glanced down at the flyer Maren had stuffed into her hands and nudged Rylan with her elbow. Same flyer as the one they'd seen earlier, presumably the very concert those boys passing them by had mentioned. "No more war, huh?" he said to Maren. "Couldn't agree more." Nobody really won in war, he'd learned, except maybe the weapons manufacturers. "So this concert, what's the deal? I hear 'anyone who's anyone' is going to this." A little ways away, a familiar chirp sounded, buried in the tangle of branches of a nearby tree. The more the merrier.

Shun gave a firm but brief shake to Alg. He had already suspected his name, but if he let that be known off the bat, it would have probably put the other man on high alert.
After glancing around at the others briefly, he eyed the bluejay with hazel eyes that landed nearby. Was that Bitterberry?

Alg scowled a moment, thinking that Eve's questioning tone was mockery of his name, "Yes. Algernon. My mother liked Oscar Wilde." He then twitched a bit in surprise seeing a blue jay just land next to him, "No. No food for you- shoo!" The young man swatted at it. It seemed the more people appeared and more strange things happened he seemed to be increasingly uncomfortable. "You know," Alg's eyes moved away from the bluejay to the man who asked about the concert, Rylan. "Like mini Woodstock. Except on the beach here and with Ashdown local music. The headlining band is very popular here..." His lunchbag was tucked cautiously into his bag which he was gathering like he was preparing to go.

Maren weighed the odds of snitching Algie's lemon bar versus saddening him and decided that she'd rather not making him wear that kicked puppy dog look. The lemon bar was left to itself, safe in the bottom of the brown paper bag.
There were a lot of people; a lot of people who, oddly enough, all seemed to somehow know each other, but maybe they were just a bunch of weirdos. Not that she could judge too much on that, but that was beside the point, her eyes going from one person to the next with open curiosity.
Algie's nudge jostled Maren from her thoughts.
"Oh, here," she said, catching his meaning and thrusting a sheaf of fliers into the shy boy's hands, a wide, toothy grin flashing across her freckled face. "Come to the concert, all right cutie pie? There's gonna be lots to do and lots to see - that goes for all of you," she added, tossing her hair and laughing, eyes bright with mischief.
A hand reached out, swatting at the bluejay without looking at it, Maren tugging at her plaid shirt as she turned icy green eyes to the two women.
"Algernon's a great name," she said with a sniff, head tilted up. She gave her the man in question a reassuring look, passing him another stack of fliers for later. "And anyway, ya'll should just remember that we can make a difference, okay?"

"Don't all crowd him," Ashton scolded, stepping back from Algernon and Maren with his flyer in hand. "It's rude. Ah, you mentioned a headlining band -- obviously most of us are not exactly from here, so could you tell me a little about them, maybe?" He smiled at Maren disarmingly, the very picture of innocent curiosity, brushing a stray hair back behind his ear. everyone else YOU'RE CROWDING ALGERNON AND YOU DON'T HAVE ANY FLOWERS FOR HIM EITHER, PEOPLE, ashton says

Kaleb made a little noise of protest when he realized he was being handed more of the same flyer from the same girl who had handed him an extraordinary amount of them earlier in the day. But the sound barely made it past an embarrassed peep. So he stood there awkwardly holding more flyers than necessary, and slowly turning pink at the casual compliment.
