"I think we probably came by it on the way in." That one was almost a blatant lie, but he hadn't been looking. Having gotten what he thought he could from the photos, he offered the woman her phone back. He smiled to her.
"Thank you, Ma'am. You've been very helpful." When the phone crossed hands, his voice dropped to a more earnest, less cop-like tone. "We're going to do everything we can to get your daughter back." Freaking Circe.

"Thank you, officer." Augusta took the phone back, pocketing it. "It is getting increasingly difficult to distract my granddaughter from the absence of her mother." She rubbed her eyes before standing escorting Brian to the door. "Good luck."

"Of course, Ma'am. I can't imagine," he said. If his family had turned into animals? He'd have liked to go and smack Circe himself. That was why the Chosen existed, though. They could help with these things without utter chaos. "We'll be in contact. Have a good day, Ma'am."
He offered a wave and headed out of the house, down the stairs and off in the direction Lex had escaped. Hopefully they hadn't gone far. He just walked along the road, waiting for the blonde to reappear when they were out of sight of the front porch.

Lex looked up from his phone and gave an easy wave to Brian, and pushed away from the tree, heading towards him. "So?" He questioned, sliding a finger over the screen to close it and pocketed it. "Do we have a lead?"

"It happened at the gas station, so we should probably head there. Apparently the police took all of her clothes, but there was definitely a pile of them in the picture her mom showed me," Brian said as they walked. "Something had tried to get into the dumpster too, and I'm willing to bet it was our vic. It doesn't look like a kidnapping or a murder or anything. Also, she thought I was a cop, so we may need to not come back around here unless we find her kid." He was already surveying their surroundings and stoic-facing.
"If they haven't tranquilized any animals lately, I'm willing to bet she's run for the nearest forest. I mean, everyone in the bayou did too."

"Sounds like a good idea," Lex said, settling to Brian's left, humming thoughtfully. "Well, that isn't to surprising, and I was sort of hoping she would. This place is to small for us to be friends, she would likely know her daughter's friends." Lex said. "And I look nothing like a cop." "Mmh, not a lot of forest about, least not really deep and expansive forests. Lot of farm land in this area, and there are lots of strands of trees for wind breaks." Michigan major forests were in the parks and the UP. "But we should check the gas station first."

[ 4: Taking the victim's car keys, you decide to search their car -- and find a paper bag with some candles and two Moly Flowers in the backseat. You can collect and keep them. ] It was at the gas station that Brian noted the victim's car. It was a little odd to have it still parked where it had been left, but there it was. Apparently the police around here weren't very good. To get inside, though, would need a little finagling. If anyone asked, he'd bluff Cop until they could escape.
With Lex keeping watch, Brian pulled out a slim jim (of the metal sort, not the edible) and mentally wept over the loss of his job as he broke into the car via the sea between door and window. Therewas a paper bag he had been eying, and pulling it out he checked the contents and nodded to himself. He closed the door.
"Look," he said softly, waving Lex over. Inside the bag were a pair of moly flowers and a few candles. If there had even been a question as to whether Circe was involved, it was gone now. "She's totally behind this. Her or her little minions."

Quote: You decide to investigate the back yard, where you find more animal prints, the obvious signs of some digging, and a hole through the back fence / investigate behind the gas station in this case "Are you going to teach me how to break into cars?" Lex asked, eyeing the thin metal with interest. Well, that was a different technique and he swore he might have seen something similar involving his mom and a coat hanger and keys left on the seat. "Mmh? Ooh.. yeah, that has Circe all over it." Lex sighed, looking at the moly and then the candles. "I'm going to check the back of the gas station. Check the front for more clues?" He grinned and started for the back, looking for marks in the pavement or the grit around the area.

You can collect and keep them. ] "I am definitely not going to teach you how to break into a car," Brian said with a quiet laugh of probable awkwardness. Then he considered it. "Actually, it can be useful, and that's not really my job any more..."
When it was all done, Brian looked back at the flowers in the bag, spotted four where he thought there had been two, and rolled up the bag. He checked the rest of the car, but found only the normal trash and detritus from having a small child. He closed the door but did not lock it, and jogged off to meet Lex. They'd be less suspicious gathered in the back than the front. Hopefully nobody had spotted them yet.
"Ya find anything?"

Quote: You head out to investigate around town, pausing at a local hangout spot to ask some around about the victim. They give you some information about hobbies and personal life, but nothing particularly useful. "Nothing much," Lex shrugged, poking about some of the animal tracks and scratch marks with his shoe. "Nothing that really going to answer this question. Might have better luck talking to her manger inside." He sighed, tucking a loose lock of hair more firmly back into place. "Did you find anything else of interest?" He asked, rocking back on heels to head towards the gas station.

Brian sighed. That meant he was going to have to go in and talk to the manager, didn't i-- oop! Apparently not. Lex seemed to be heading that way. He'd follow their lead, even if it meant that, yes, he was going to have to go inside alone. Could the Prytaneum override felonies?
"Not really," he said, "Just the bag. Here." He offered Lex two of the flowers. "Just in case."

Lex chuckled and took the bag, shoving it into a pocket. "How many times have you looked through that car?" He walked inside, looking around the gas station interested. It looked rather clean, and decently stocked. He walked around the shelves before causally starting a talk with one of the clerks, getting some basic information but nothing overly helpful. Lex did end up buying a kitkat bar and a mt. dew. He broke the chocolate apart, offering one to Brian. "In exchange for the flowers." grasshopper pie Yeah, no, that car is not getting visited again! Hehe

7: Under the victim's bed you find something you wish you hadn't. It doesn't help with the investigation, and you quickly slide it back into place out of sight. Brian accepted the chocolate and popped it in his mouth.
"Thanks." Considering that Lex hadn't approached the person on-duty, he finished chewing before heading for the counter. On his way, he passed a bag of bizarrely-flavored Lays potato chips. Gross.
When he came to the counter, he smiled to the attendant. Questioning was brief, and the clerk seemed to be running on fumes and teenage hormones. He came back bearing more candy.
"Apparently she likes these." If she was something to be lured, they might get lucky with those. Probably not, though, considering how turned people tended to have the desire to tear out your throat. "That's all I got. If I call the manager... I don't want to get arrested."

Quote: In the victim's bedroom you find their journal/diary. It contains normal entries, but the last few talk about a strange woman's attempt to recruit them to some kind of magic club. "That alright, I'm not actually sure how they would handle any of being arrested, though I could probably bail you out if needed." Lex, paused, considering. "Anyhow, candy is good. It is not like we can't find some use for it." He looked around the building once before leaving, pausing at the car, and tip his head. Was that a book under the back seat. "One moment," he opened the door, rummaging around in the back and lifted up the journal. "Other clue, outside of the moly." Lex casually opened it, leafing through the entries, boring, boring, boring, ooh... magic club? "Well, if the moly wasn't cluing us in.... magic club, really does."'
