“A…chaperone? I mean, yeah! I’d love to patrol with you, Arias…I would have loved it all this time to be honest, I just thought you weren’t interested or something…”
He fell quiet and sighed, letting his thoughts circle around the fact that even Arias thought that one day Ashanite would end up hurting him…and while he didn’t really think that was…true…he didn’t really want to find out if it was or wasn’t either…
He didn’t want to get hurt…but when you played with fire…hadn’t Ashanite attacked him once? During the failed corruption? Hadn’t he attacked and tried to kill him, even? But…on the other hand, he was so sweet…and so understanding and so…
Handsome. He was so handsome.
“…When do you wanna start babysitting me, love? I’m down for whatever…also what should I wear to your house? I’m really excited for dinner…and meeting your parents. Will I get to sleep in your bed? Will they let me? Also can I just crash here tonight? I can sleep in your bed now.”
For Nick, distractions were always better than focusing on an issue. If he ignored it for long enough...it would maybe go away.

Arias just laughed. "I didn't want you to see me make a fool of myself. I'm still only a Squire, I guess I felt like I've just slowed you down. Didn't wanna be dead weight, you know? But, you know? ...I think I can carry my own weight. And a little extra, if you need it."
He leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
"If you want to sleep in my bed, you'd better keep it to this one. Even I've outgrown mine back home. It's just a futon, doesn't even open. I needed the extra space for painting, way back when. I've been waiting for them to turn it into a guest room, but I think Mom likes the idea that I can come back home and it's just like how I remembered it." He shrugged. "I mean, if you want to try, we can make it work." He scratched his chin in thought and rested against Nick. "Let's wear matching sweaters. Mom'll love that."

“You being a Squire doesn’t matter in the slightest. It just means that we’ll balance each other out…I’ll protect you from the world…and you protect me from…well…me. My stupid decisions and my everything else. It’ll be perfect.”
Nick had a smile again, a real one and he was feeling…better. He really hadn’t even realized that he had been worried about everything with Arias…and now that it was solved, now that it was better…
Hell. He felt better. “Well, I can deal with that, we can just sleep together for a while then, if you want…and I think matching sweaters sounds like a great idea. Let’s go shopping tomorrow to pick some out, shall we?”
Everything was good…everything was better. Now if he could just get over this being sick feeling...well, then it would be even better still.

Arias just laughed softly and shook his head. Sometimes, he still had flashes--of that future. The one that could have been, where the Negaverse was in charge, and he had lost an arm, and...
One day, he couldn't settle for being just a Squire. One day, he'd have to get stronger. He needed to, to protect everyone. Especially Nick, since Carlee seemed like she didn't like him being so overprotective.
He kissed Nick on the cheek once more. "What's all this talk of sleeping? I've got cookies to bake. Put on a movie," he said, pulling himself up. "As long as you're here, I'm going to work you. But," he promised, "We'll go shopping for matching sweaters tomorrow morning."
Arias had, apparently, already made up his mind that Nick was spending the night.
Which, actually, seemed perfect. He couldn't imagine anything he wanted more right now.
