Personal expression had never really been in Brian's bag of tricks. He hadn't been a particularly repressed individual up until this point. It was just his training, he liked to think. Personal expression became a lot less important. Either way, it was all the more reason to act out now!

He was glad that he had made her laugh as well.

"Yeah, the same here. Maybe not the same kind of dancing?" he asked. All of a sudden he had to half-shout. The playlist had taken another turn and gone a bit more thumpy. it had gained attitude. For a moment Brian stopped and looked up, as if at the sound, then back to Beth. How would she react to a change in mood?

Well, the booze said he'd better find out!

He grinned, caught the beat, and performed a couple of body rolls while leaning back. His hood fell off backward and he reached up to catch it and missed. He laughed again.

Beth squealed with laughter as he rolled against her. He was stronger and more grounded than she was. And maybe, just maybe, she was a little intoxicated. She stumbled forward a step or two before regaining her balance and planting herself so that Brian had something to move against. It was surprisingly hard to shimmy in her boots and satin, but she managed to get a groove going with her hips between Brian and the music.

Though she had to speak up as well over the beat, she called to him, "My parents wouldn't be crazy about this kind of dancing." There was a sparkle in her eyes, a delight at the rebellion she felt she was committing, something she would never consider if not for the party, the booze, and, most importantly, the company. "That's why we always did it away from the adults. And now we...are the adults?" She laughed, a bit dry mouthed. "But isn't dancing supposed to be, like, instinctive? And fun?"

The hood was forgotten when he felt Beth move closer and move with him. He wasn't even sure himself what he had been expecting, but this wasn't it. She was so close! Of course it was silly to assume that Beth couldn't return a decent dance-off, but somehow Brian had expected a laugh and maybe a blush and a hasty escape at worst. Beth certainly did keep things interesting, didn't she?

He continued to dance with her and shout with her over the music. He had never conversed this much while dancing, but there was a first time for everything.

His own parents had been pretty understanding, but rolling your hips against another person's was not on the list of acceptable party fare at the Watterly home. Adults! Hah!

"I think so!" he agreed. Since Beth had decided to reciprocate, he put a hand on her shoulder and came back up for a more normal height to continue the interaction. He was smirking broadly.

Beth felt courageous. She felt free. She was having the most unconditional fun she'd had since being Chosen--and without being Chosen, who was to say where she would be instead? All the worries melted away and she let her instinct (and Brian's funky fresh beat) lead her. For once, she didn't care what others might think of her outfit, or her moves. So long as she didn't step on Brian's foot or knock them both over, she considered it a win. She was panting--it was exercise!--but her eyes were bright and her smile wide.

It might have been fifteen minutes, it might have been a few hours. It passed in a blur of music, movement, and laughter. But eventually, she knew she had to sit or else, like a fairy tale wicked stepmother, she would dance her toes off. "Sorry, I think my heels are getting to me." She whispered her apologies, pointing to a drink table, letting Brian follow, if he wished.
