Saraf nodded, "People are more likely to go through with the challenge if they will benefit with it in the end." From what he saw it was the best way to get people to do things without as much of a fuss... not that he thought Arima was a fussy sort. He just offered her the bet so that she would stick around and they would have the same healer for longer then a week or so. They really needed to find a healer that was more up their alley... but for now he felt that Arima might work. If she could put up with him then she could put up with anyone or so he hoped.

Lifting his eyebrow as she said that she'd only 'stab him a few times' which was... good? Here was to hoping that she wasn't going to 'stab him' all that much he though tot himself before he said, "Yeah, I'm fine with it or I wouldn't have volunteered as your first sacrifice." He said with a bit of a grin.

"Stretch?" He asked, then couldn't help but laugh, "Is this really a test for do you just want to see me flex, Arima?" He asked as he did what she told him to do, stretching out, moving his arms, and jokingly flexed from time to time as well. He supposed if it was a part of the check up that he would do it but no reason not to tease the healer just a bit. It would allow her to get used to the teasing that she was sure to get by others. At the mention of dehydration he said, "That can be one of the biggest threats out here so we do our best to get a lot of water from the various oasis around here. We tend to take turns doing that particular job since it can be a bit on the boring side."

Glancing over her as he went about the stretches he asked, "As a healer the results are for your eyes and that of your patients only, right?"

"Sounds correct." Arima replied with a quiet sigh. Before entering this life the noble girl had been constantly lost in fantasies with heroes who would have just accepted a challenge for the greater good or just simply because they had honor to defend and etc. Now she was learning quickly that nothing was done without asking for something in return. Still for a game out here it seemed that there was always more at stake. T'is the way of life out here, I suppose. Always barter and haggle what you have to see what you can gain.

"Sacrifice?" Arima replied before laughing herself, "Fine, fine. I guess I'll just have to prove to you that I'm not that awful." It was good though. She was hoping that if she could do well with Saraf then the rest wouldn't be such a challenge. It was a stretched hope, but one none-the-less.

Her mind was so worked up over worry about her future patients that the Matori missed his question, "Yes, yes." She absentmindedly replied with a nod as she finished scribbling a quick note in her journal. Yet when she glanced up and as he began the girl blinked rapidly, "Wa-wait...what?" She squeaked before shaking her head quickly, "Ju-just stretching that's all! Why would I need to see anything more?" Protesting the healer couldn't hide the vibrant flush on her cheeks, "You're teasing me...I see. So even you want to have fun with the newbie healer." Trying to regain her calm Arima cleared her throat before making more marks in her book. Seemed that he could move with ease - that was good. And those flexes...he definitely had the body of a soldier. Yep, she was just making certain everything was in order...totally not lingering with her gaze when she shouldn't....

"I see." Forcing herself to focus on the topic at hand Arima slowly nodded, "I figured it was a necessity to do such a thing, but I wanted to make certain that it's done enough to keep everyone hydrated."

His next question did cause the girl to raise a brow in confusion, "Yes. Unless it's something so dire that others may need to be noted. I won't have anyone fighting with some serious disease for example, but I do for the most part keep confidential the information I gain." She held up her journal, "This never leaves my side and when it does I place it in a locked chest for privacy. Not that I've ever had anyone truly need something on another's health before..." She trailed off before approaching Saraf so that she could stand before him, "Is there a reason you ask, Saraf? You can trust me, you know. I just want to help...." The Matori glanced at him in concern before holding out a delicate hand towards him, "If there's nothing wrong then I've seen enough flexing to prove that you are doing well. If I may I'll take your pulse next."

Saraf couldn't help but to be amused by the reactions from Arima, especially given the fact that they seemed twofold. First she was agreeing with him that 'yes, yes' she just wanted to see him flex... and then seemed to realize what she'd agreed to and got all flustered. Giving a nod he continued through some stretches, to show her that he was in fact able to use all of his limbs correctly and without any issues. He'd been injured before in the past, that was just the way of things, but nothing that really bothered him when it came to his various limbs. Here was to hoping that she felt the same and didn't find something minimal that was 'wrong' and decided that it needed treatment or something.

"Once we are done here I will show you were you go to get water rations... unless you have a spell to conjure up water? If you do I can tell you that you will be quite popular out here." He thought on that a moment, wondering if maybe it was a spell she should keep to herself if it was one that she knew. He didn't want people trying to turn the camp's doctor into a walking oasis after all.

"Hm... good." That she would keep any and all information to herself was a good thing, it meant that he wouldn't have to worry about her blabbing to the wrong person. While those that mattered the most to this unit knew there was a chance outsiders might become a bother to him and then he'd have to prove to them that he wasn't some weak child that needed pampering. As she came to stand before him, telling him that she could be trusted and that she wanted to help he starred for a long moment, then gave a little sigh, "There is no helping. I've been to many healers in my life, since I was a prentice and first got the injury. The most that was able to be done was staving off the inevitable... which came to pass with time."

Lifting a hand he made a motion to the eye that had the scar over it, "I am blind in one eye. The Captain is aware of this, he's trained with me to make sure that it's not a vulnerability though. I can hold my own in a fight even with this eye." She was the first one he'd told since the Captain so here was to hoping that she kept her word and didn't share the information with anyone.

"Water spell?" Blinking Arima tilted her head thoughtfully, "I'm actually quite new to the magic portion of things...I can summon lights, buuut I suppose you can't really drink that. Nor does being able to seal a wound or brush away a headache seem quite like a water spell." She chewed the inside of her cheek though as his suggestion tugged at her, "Maybe...I should pick up a new spell or two." She had spent so much time in the actual books on herb lore and medicines that she had forgotten about the other possibilities magic could bring. Not that she could make water appear out of thin air, but perhaps if there was any out of the ground it would be helpful to have the capability to draw it out.

Her thoughts returning to his inspection Arima found herself flushing as she waited his response. Was he measuring her? Checking to see if she was up to size? Err trust worthy? I mean surely! Hadn't she been around him enough times? Then again...not really. Arima almost bowed her head at his sigh. Was it that hard to trust her? If he didn't want to trust her then should she give him more time? Arima frowned, "Well- eh?" She glanced towards him with a little relief as he finally confessed to her, "Was the injury so bad?" Her gaze softened as she took a few steps closer towards Saraf.

"So the captain does know." Without thinking the girl lifted a hand so that she could gently brush her fingers across his cheekbone directly under his eye. It was pretty unresponsive - so it was indeed blind. She had seen the scar so why hadn't she connected it? "I mean it is a handicap, but you are a capable warrior so you've already adjusted to it..." Her fingers lingered thoughtfully as she glanced closely at him, "Does it ever hurt you? I wish...I knew a way to repair it, but I'm afraid I'm still a novice and if others couldn't..not that I see you any differently for it. I just am sorry such a thing happened and I wasn't able to help you back then." The words quietly drifted from her lips as she studied him.

Standing on her tiptoes, however, Arima was in rather close proximity to Saraf as she inspected him. And while being lost in thought about his eye (also perhaps about his fine features as well) Arima found herself startled as noises outside of her tent broke her concentration. Oh! Realization and worry (what if someone came in and got the wrong idea from seeing them?!) lit her features as she quickly tried to move away. Letting out a soft sound of surprise as her cheeks flared to life the Matori almost spun in her attempt to break away from Saraf before tripping on her own feet and falling back towards him.

Whoops!

Saraf said, "You needn't worry about it too much, I am sure that if you do everyone will end up bothering you for water all the time when we have a system for getting it." He didn't want her to be hassled when she'd likely already be as far as healing went. The fact that she was willing to actually try to pick up such spells though was... nice. It really made it feel like she was definitely going to try to stick around for a bit. Something that he found he liked the sound of, though he wouldn't say as much out loud.

As he asked her about the injury being so bad he nodded, "A violent blow to the side of my head that sort of... knocked the lights out on one side. It wasn't completely blind for a while, I saw silhouettes and shadows mostly, but even that faded with time. It's actually a bit better now, the sight I had in the eye was... distracting at best. As for pain, no, it doesn't hurt at all anymore so you needn't worry, Arima." Even the over all anger he felt in general toward the Shifters had faded for the most part.

The commotion outside the tent, which he would put money on was Vaina, caused him to turned toward the sound... and as he did that it seemed that Arima panicked a bit more then him. He turned toward her, watching with his good eye as she tried to escape and then ended up tripping over herself and falling toward him. Giving a sigh he stepped forward, arms out, and caught the strange girl to keep her from falling, "Are you going to be alright?" He asked, doing his best not to laugh though there was a bit of a smirk on his face as he asked the question.

Arima simply shook her head, "No worries. Then I'll save it for emergency!" If she could even learn such a spell. Still it was another way to prove that she could stay and would be useful here. She didn't know exactly why but the petite Matori truly wished to prove herself to Saraf. It made her happy to see him smile and to just imagine his approval gave her stomach butterflies! If Saraf could approve of her then surely she could stay, right?

Despite his assurances Arima still felt guilt for his eye. This was why she had wished to heal - to help those she cared about. Though the longer she worked as a healer the more the young woman was finding that simply helping any in need was enough motivation for her to continue working, "I'm glad." She whispered. At least it didn't hurt anymore, "Still, I'll keep an eye on it...so let me know if anything changes." Oh wait...no pun intended! If it wasn't for the commotion outside then the girl's cheeks would have already been flaming for her foolish statement.

The next thing she knew she was falling. Then just as suddenly Arima found herself floating in midair - or rather found herself being supported by a strong pair of arms, "I-I...yes!" She squeaked finally as her face blossomed into a lovely shade of pale violet, "Thank you..." She found herself simply staying still as she stared at him before more noises outside caused the girl to pull away.

"Um..." Coughing into her hand as she turned away from Saraf the girl attempted to calm her racing heart, "So what were we doing now?" Physical, physical... Where was she? Oh why did it seem that such a simple thing made her mind go blank? Talk about feeling foolish! Oooh if she ever found out whoever it was that had peeked in like a thief then they would definitely get an earful! "Even despite your eye I believe you are in fine shape so I can check you off...unless there is something else that you need or want to discuss?" She turned towards him slowly, "I mean health wise. Yes, health wise." Arima found herself tapping her fingers against her journal as she attempted to calm her mind.

Saraf found himself a bit amused by all of Arima's reactions, how out of sorts she was able to make herself not only by her own words but also by her clumsy actions. Giving a smile he said, "Your welcome, Arima." He said, watching her as she seemed to be trying to get herself back into sorts, as well as try to figure out what she'd been doing before her fall.

"You were watching me flex and such? For medical purposes, of course." He answered when she asked what it was that they had been doing. A moment later she seemed to recall what they were actually doing and gave him the go ahead, saying that he was in 'fine shape' despite his eye. It seemed as though he was being dismissed unless there was something else that he wanted to talk about 'health wise' and he gave a shake of his head, "I am quite alright. Just remember, it's our little secret." No reason for anyone save for the two of them and the Captain to know about his eye after all, not when it wasn't a big deal if you asked Saraf. Especially given that the standing Oban army wasn't even training for war anymore these days.

After glancing around for a moment he said, "Since it seems we are done I can head out and send in the next person if you'd like? Or would you like some time to get things in order first?"

Despite her racing heart Arima did have the courage to stare over at Saraf with a raised brow, "Of course." She replied with some sass in an attempt to regain her composure, "Don't feel so honored - by the end of this week I'll probably have seen everyone flex. You should see half of the things that a healer has to inspect after all." She held her chin up towards him in protest at his teasing before turning back to check in her journal. It did seem though thankfully that Saraf was in prime condition despite his bad eye.

"Don't worry." Arima did sincerely peer back over towards him, "I would never give out a patient's secret, especially if they're also a friend." The Matori closed her journal and placed it in a box, "But for now I would appreciate having a bit of time before seeing anyone else. If they could come in perhaps an hour or so that would be best." She smiled towards Saraf, "I would appreciate having someone to send them in a serious manner. Let me inspect them first in an honest manner and then they can begin teasing all they want." Arima dusted her skirts with a small smile. It was a brave front, but honestly the girl was nervous. Would she be able to make it through their bet?

As she peeked over towards the Oban, Arima found herself nodding. She could do this and she would do this - especially now that she realized staying here could teach her a lot. How to survive, how to heal, how to handle some rough manners, and maybe even more about my own...mess. The thought made her smile before she raised her hands to shoo Saraf outside, "Now go let them know I'll be ready in an hour before they think you've been in here for far too long."

Saraf thought on that for a moment, then nodded, "Yeah, once you see some of the others I am sure that you will forget all about me. The Captain especially." He gave a little chuckle, a chuckle that turned to a full laugh as she mentioned the things that a healer had to inspect. Now that made him feel a bit bad for her... especially given how far the group was away from the best bathing facilities. The best they had out here was the occasional deep oasis to clean up in. He kept that thought to himself though instead merely saying, "Good luck with all of your... inspections."

Giving a nod of his head Saraf said, "One hour then. That will give me time to do a quick sweep of the place so that I can figure out who would be the best to send in first." Those who were in need of a doctor visit would get priority and then he would go from there. Volunteers first, though by the end he'd see to it that everyone had at least a quick once over provided that she stuck around long enough to give everyone their check ups. It seemed as though she wanted to stay, was determined to in fact, so it might all work out!

Heading for the door to the tent he gave pause, glancing over his shoulder at her, then looked away as he said, "It was nice to see you again, Arima, even if the circumstances were surprising ones." With that he headed out, leaving the Matorian woman to her work.
