Shun shook his head, trying to snap himself out of his dazed state. He did so in time to see and register the fact that Thorne was coming in for another attack. The detective stepped the side, though he was still a little sluggish from the previous blow. Feeling an impact to his ribs, he grunted out once more before finally retaliating once again. While he was still up close, he threw a quick jab at the noble's side. 965

Thorne grunted at the jab, not bothering to protect it, though his eyes caught Shun's, mischievous and daring, and then he wrapped his arms around Shun's middle, unfurled his wings, and flung them both into the air.
"Hey, Mister Detective," he said, holding Shun tight so he wouldn't drop him suddenly, "How do you feel about something like this?"

And then they were flying. And hew as now a fair distance above the ground. Shun shot a glance over his shoulder, that was more of a glare towards Thorne. Time to take a gambit. To answer the noble's question, he just went to try and elbow him right in the face. All the while, he was getting ready to try something. It was going to be risky, to say in the very least. But here, in this world of magic, anything was possible. 1049

Thorne yelped as he was elbowed in the face, a starburst of pain bursting from his forehead when Shun went for the blow. With a grunt, Thorne released Shun to clutch his nose, burning with pain, before realizing exactly what he'd done and yelping again, snapping his wings shut and barreling after the other detective.
"Do you really want to skydive here and now?" He called after the other, stretching one hand out to catch the other, unless he had plans of his own.

Part one of his plan worked. He was now freefalling. There was a sort of glint in his eyes as he looked up at Thorne before glancing towards the ground. While he had been training with Jeremiah, he had developed some ideas of what he might be able to do to avoid those damn homing fireballs he liked to use on him. Actually executing it wasn't easy, though. Gritting his teeth, he focused on the magic. Just as Thorne was about to grab a hold of him, he suddenly vanished, leaving behind a few smoky wisps where he had just been. A split second later, he was a few feet above the ground, where he landed with a light thud, and promptly knocking the wind from his lungs. Okay. That did not go entirely as planned. He needed to work that one out a bit more. Probably when he was able to actually train up to it and not be freefalling. But it was a start. Shun wheezed as he rolled over, trying to breathe. 1224

Thorne snorted at Shun's stunt, half-amused, half-anxious, and gave an easy flap of his wings to catch himself, even though he landed on Shun's chest, dropping to sit cross legged on top of him like an too-large cat, wings bending down so the talons raked the space on either side of his face.
"Alright, hotshot," he drawled in amusement, "Anything else up your sleeve?"
He could fight now if he wanted to, take advantage of the clumsy use of magic. But he felt like he could give Shun the advantage here instead. He had always been curious to see what kind of surprises the other had in store, here of all places.

Shun was still wheezing from his landing. Having Thorne sitting on his chest was not helping with the breathing effort either. He wasn't getting his face beaten in right now so... He glanced around quickly, spotting something not too far off. Back on the other side, how much he could fling around was pretty limited. Here, though... he should be able to do something a bit more. The detective's gaze locked onto Thorne's a moment later and one of his wrists flicked a bit. A mostly empty garbage can was now flying at the noble. 1319

Thorne yelped at the retaliation, and within one blink of the eye was - gone. Not gone as in he'd jumped back into the air, but gone as in he had physically vanished, stuttering back into view a few paces away from where he'd been sitting on the detective.
As it collided with the empty space where he'd been, Thorne gave a soft huff, fluttering his wings a little bit and kicking up a sharp gust that blew over Shun, maybe not enough to do any actual damage, but stirring enough dirt and dust that hopefully it blinded Shun or blurred his vision long enough for Thorne to close the gap between them and throw the other across the clearing.
But that certainly depended on Shun letting him get close in the first place.

Once Thorne was off his chest, Shun began to push himself up into a crouching position. The dust whirling up and around made things a little difficult to see and he brought his arms up to help shield his eyes. Still, he was able to make out a shadow coming down towards him. Shun quickly rolled off to the side, before kicking up at the divebombing form, hoping to catch him off his guard.

Thorne grunted as Shun caught him and his wing struck out, dangerous and glittering with a single talon. He didn't know if he'd hit or not, too preoccupied by lunging into a roll, twisting his body as he went and catching the talons of his wings in the ground to bring him to a halt. Where he pulled them from the ground, deep groves had wrecked apart the dirt.
Thorne hovered there, crouched, animal, peering at Shun with wild-eyed curiosity. The air around him seemed to fidget and crackle before finally he laughed and righted himself.
"You're good," he said, appraising.

Shun felt something sharp rake against his leg. Hissing sharply in pain, he moved on back and stood up a little more straight. He could feel a trickle of blood running down his leg now. That was going to slow him down some. For now, he kept his weight mostly on his uninjured leg as he shifted himself, ready to strike. "Could do better," he grunted out, finally speaking again, "You are not so bad yourself."1469

"Those that are good so often say that," Thorne retorted with a laugh and shrugged at him, his eyes warm but relentless. "Thank you. I need to get better though, as well." With that, he closed his eyes and opened again, and then he said, "Well then, shall we?" And closed the distance between them in one fell swoop. A light scoff just escaped him. With his leg having taken some damage, it was going to be a little harder to maneuver around. He was going to need to make every movement count, moreso than usual. Shun nodded curtly to Thorne. A sort of 'bring it' gesture. 1517
