Glass. It was a strange thing, though she'd seen it. Dem preferred crystal rather than the pure substance. Mostly because she could see it better. When he told her that On'os was the one tha any traveler wanted on their side she nodded her head again. "Yes. I have told my son as much before. He was whining about the long walk on our last trip." V'demhe could still recall the teasing she had done then. "I am on my way to visit him, perhaps you know him? His name is Klaas." The only reason she mentioned it is because she was fairly certain she was in the general area of where her fire son lived. Though she could be wrong. Oba wasn't a place she traveled often. In fact it was only recently that she had started to travel again. "I believe I am in the right part of Oba, though I could be wrong. Would towns have a map I could get or would I need to find a larger city?"

"Oba is a lot of long trips, those that can be a bit on the dangerous side if you don't go about it the right way. Just... be cautious." That was really the most that Saraf could say because there were so many dangers out there in the deserts of Oba. There were so many dangers from the beasts, the bandits, the weather, a lack of water, anything and everything could be a potential threat." "Klaas?" Saraf thought over it for a moment before he gave a slow shake of his head, "I don't think that is a name that I know." He gave a humming sound before he looked away from the woman thinking on it for a moment. Did the Alkidike have sons? He couldn't really say that he knew all that much about save for what he learned during the war against them. Even then what he'd learned was mostly about the Extremists before they were banished from the mainland. As she asked about a map he gave a thoughtful sound and said, "I... am not sure. It depends on if there is a map maker about. You will want to search the bigger cities for that sort of thing."

There were indeed many dangers. When he told her to be cautious she nodded her head at him. "Thank you and I hope you will be cautious as well." Dem took a moment to consider this Oban. If more were like him then she might not worry about her daughter so much. As he tried to figure out if he knew her son or not she had to chuckle to herself. "Sorry, I should have mentioned I adopted him. He's of Oban descent. I adopted another son as well but he's a northern hybrid." V'demhe seemed very proud of her sons as she spoke. It was even written on her face. "I love kids. Do you have any?" Perhaps if he were a father then he would understand where she was coming from.

"Huh?" That was... strange. Why would an Alkidike want to adopt an Oban as their child? It was something that he tried to wrap his head around, finding it for a moment difficult... until he thought back to Issaly. His mother had been only too happy to adopt him into their family before he and his brother decided to cut and run. A thought that he brushed aside as he didn't want to think about it. He'd decided that he didn't want to be angry at Issaly any longer... though if he ran across the brother he might give him a punch for good measure. Giving a bit of a sigh he said, "Just be careful with that sort of thing. It can come back to bite you." Or cause you to be the one that lashed out he thought to himself as he gave a little whistle, "Grane. Come." The big, silver beast walked over to him he set to work putting the big back of water skin on the janarim's back. Once it was secure he gave him a pat on the neck, "Good boy." Turning back to the woman as she asked him about kids he gave a shake of his head in the negative, "I do not." Not that it wasn't something he thought on from time to time if only because his mother was in a rush to see him married off... but it wasn't really something he put a lot of time into. It was more her wanting grandchildren then it was Saraf wanting them presently. Curiously he asked, "How many do you have? You seem as though you're taking in at least a few strays?"

V'demhe laughed and nodded her head. "Yes, it certainly can. Did you know they eat quite a lot of food?" And had an amazing amount of energy. It made her wonder if she had that much energy as a kid. When he said he didn't have children she shook her head. "That is a shame, Saraf. They are a joy to have." Even if they were trying at times. When he seemed curious about how many children she had and mentioned strays she grinned from ear to ear and nodded. "I have two of my own, both daughters. Then I have adopted two hybrids and one pure. All of them adorable in their own way. Galene and Masika are my girls. Then I have Draven, Klaas, and Valharii." And if she had her way she would have more children in the future. Of course she needed to figure out where her mate went before that could happen. "I admit most of my kids have the water and fire earthling heritage, which is why I know a little about the gods. I am trying to learn more for their sake."

Not exactly what he meant, meaning the woman must be too optimistic to consider that any of her children could turn on her. That or maybe they were just good kids as opposed to someone like Isaris? Hard to say really since he had no idea about her situation, as such he felt he should keep such thoughts to himself. Instead he merely gave a smile and said, "Maybe one day. Especially if my mother has any say in the matter." As the woman started to describe his children he couldn't help but to stare, "Huh... that many...?" More then Saraf could really think about wanting. He'd thought it was crazy that his friend Nuri had ended up with a trio of them but five? That was so many, but to each their own. It wasn't for Saraf at the moment but if it made her happy then that was what mattered, right? As she mentioned her adopted children being from Oba and Matori and that it was the reason she knew of Saraf's Gods and Goddesses he gave a nod of his head, "I see... huh..." It was interesting that she even cared. Since she was their mother she could have tried to teach them whatever she wanted. Instead she learned of their beliefs for their sake. It was unexpected... but he supposed it proved that she wasn't one of the crazy ones among her tribe, that much was for certain. Not that she could have exactly been one given that was still here and not banished he supposed.

V'demhe could relate to him saying that about his mother. Her own had been very vocal about wanting grandchildren. She nodded her head as he commented on the number of children she had. "The two hybrids I adopted didn't have anyone to look after them. As a mother I couldn't turn them away." A single shoulder lifted at the fact. To her it was a no brainer. "If you have any pointers on how to better learn about Oban culture I am all ears." And antennae, but she didn't think he would appreciate that humor so she kept it to herself.

"I see. My mother felt the same way a while back when it came to little birds that fell out of their nest and needing looked after. It must be a womanly thing, huh?" Maybe it was as she said, she was a mother so she couldn't turn away those who were in need. His own mother must have felt the same because she'd done exactly what this woman had done. It had to be a woman thing because he couldn't say that he ever saw strays and wanted to pick them up... well, not exactly. Giving them a play in the outcast unit, sure, but not as one of his children. Was that just his version of taking care of strays? Shaking his head as he made a circle around Grane, making sure that everything was in place and all of the straps on his packs and saddle were secure he turned back to the Alkidike woman, "The best way to learn...?" He thought on it a moment and said, "The marketplace is a good first step and if you're strong and not easily intimidated, the tavern. You can learn a lot from the gossip in such places."

Her feelers gave a twitch and she smiled a bit softer this time. "Mayhaps not all women, but certainly most mothers." After all, Dem had seen more than a few women who had a heart as hard as crystal. Still, she did find that she was slightly amused that this man's mother had basically given him siblings of a sort. "When you find that special someone and have children then you may just find out." Of course she hoped that neither he nor his future mate would be overwhelmed. As he gave her ideas on how to learn the culture she looked thoughtful. The markets were a good place no matter where one was. V'demhe usually avoided taverns though. Generally because as an Alkidike she was a bit on the tall side. One too many times of smacking into a chandelier had taught her to just stay away. "I think the markets are the best option for me. If you ever have children, Saraf, you'll have to let me meet them."

"Perhaps." He might not be ready now but maybe sometime in the future if he were to find the right person for him... or his mother somehow got him married off without him knowing it. Not a plan he would put passed her if she thought that she could get away with. "I wish you luck with your journey to the marketplace." As she mentioned that he'd have to let her meet his children were he to have them he gave a slow nod. He supposed he could allow that. Not as though he plan on having them any time soon so it seemed as though it were safe for him to agree to such a thing. Giving her a glance he said, "I need to be heading back to my unit. Do you know how to get to the closest town from where we are now?" Best he made sure of that before he left her here alone.

Dem saw the reluctance in his nod. Well, she couldn't win them all. At least he had spoken to her and not attacked. Plus, she could at least say they were on the path to being friends. The tall woman gave a whistle to her animal companions to make sure they were ready to leave the oasis. "I think so. Point me in the right direction to be sure?" She might as well ask for help while she had it. Oba was not her home but she was slowly learning how to navigate it. More specifically than north and south. "And thank you for all the helpful advice. If you ever need anything feel free to ask friend."

Saraf closed his eyes for a moment, looking at the mental map that he had in his head after a long time roaming this area of the desert before he opened them again. Turning he pointed in the direction that Sulburi was located, "That way is Sulburi. That place should be big enough that you should be able to find yourself a map and the gossip you need." He moved his arm slightly and said, "Just a little ways North West is a place called Orrod. It's not as big but still big enough that it could suit your needs as well. Mostly depends which direction your going in." As she thanked him for the advice he gave a shrug of one shoulder, as though it wasn't anything all that big that he'd done. She then told him that if he ever needed anything to 'feel free to ask' and he said, "I will keep it in mind." Though he didn't think that it was help he would end up needing. Still, best not to dismiss the help when it might be useful later. Climbing up onto Grane's back he said, "It's been interesting. Do be careful out there." He then gave his beast a nudge, turning him back toward where camp was located. He'd spent more then enough time chatting and it was best that he got back before a search party was sent after him and the water... though mostly the water since it couldn't take care of itself he thought himself, a hint of a smile on his lips as he rode off.
