“Mm.” Jak nodded in passive appreciation for the woman’s initial condolences. It didn’t help him to hear anyone say how sorry they were he was in the position he was and it was what it was—but it was politer and more welcome than any alternative, in any case. And when she began to speak of a potential contact, his interest perked genuinely, listening immediately more closely.
“A magic man,” he repeated. “Would you happen to know his name? Or anywhere I might go to figure his current whereabouts?”

Faamy nodded in confirmation, and cocked her head. "Makani. Tha's 'im. Where he is..." She looked around a little, lips pursed slightly. She asked the bartender, who simply shrugged and moved on. Faamy looked up at the ceiling again in thought. "Mehbeh Eira? She owns the place. Ain't sure where she's gone off ta. She'll be 'round here t'marrah fer sure if yeh kin wait?"

“Makani,” Jak repeated, making a point to push the name through his head again several more times as Faamy inquired with the bartender. A name could only get him so far, but it was something in and of itself. A good start, if nothing else. And there was more to it than that, apparently.
“A woman named Eira owns this establishment?” he asked, wanting to be sure they were on the same page. He wasn’t intimately familiar with the area, but when settlements were small as they were in Sauti, the same names filtered around and he felt sure he had at least heard that one at some point. It made sense, if she were an innkeeper at a prominent place of rest for numerous travelers. He and his own family might even have had some passing contact prior, but he couldn’t be sure. “I can wait a day, certainly. The only time push is for answers, and if there might be some here, it is worth my time.”

Faamy nodded again, watching the guy think things through. Oh, she hoped she wasn't steering the fellow wrong. Surely Makani would be able to help! ..as long as he was found soon.
"Good. Hopefully, one 're both'll pop their heads in tanight," she said with a hopeful smile. She tossed back the rest of her mug and sighed, cocking her head. "Welp, since yer're here, d'ya need anythin' I kin getchya? Food 'r drink ta relax here? Can get yeh set up in a room ta rest yer back?"

Jak shook his head, relaxing his posture and easing back to a smile. Things had not fully resolved themselves, but he had more information than he’d come in with, and that was something to celebrate. “I think I’m well enough as is and already more indebted and grateful to you than I can say,” he said. “Though perhaps now I could afford that drink after all…” His gaze flicked to her as he waved down the bartender for just that, “…and a dance?”
There was a teasing lilt to the question, but he meant it in seriousness if she were interested. If he was going to be about anyway there seemed no reason to sit idly by with other opportunities abound.
“If you have half so much spirit and grace on your feet as you do with your voice,” he said, “you might put me to shame.”

Faamy let out a quiet sigh when she saw Jakkoa relaxing again. "Ah, mosta the workers here coulda told yeh 'bout Makani. I'm jus' the lucky one yeh asked," she replied, waving off his debt lightly. Of course she was glad to help in any way she could!
A dance? It took only a moment for Faamy's small smile to turn as bright as a light. She loved the flattery, but she was truly excited for a dance partner who wasn't ready to pass out drunk. "Mister Jakkoa, yeh got yerself a deal. We kin see who shames whom." She gave him a playful wink. "Gonna need tha' bed ta rest yer back tanight after experiencin' my hot-steppin'!"
