Shun raised his brow at the dog. He must have thought that she was offering a petting of sorts, or something like that. Either way, he just shrugged it off and continued to walk along the sandy beach.
"I suppose it could be considered exciting. There is not really that much to it, though."
No, it was a small bit of normalcy among the insanity.

"Do you have any pictures of it? I'd love to see it, but you can't exactly bring it in to the office." She gave a small giggle at the thought.
Captain picked up a small piece of driftwood and began walking with it. A prize.

The detective furrowed his brow.
"...No. Not yet anyway. I have not had it for very long after all," he replied, turning his attention back to Captain. He had a bit of driftwood he was carrying along now. Fair enough.

"Awww. Well please bring pictures by my office later. That's an order, detective!" She gave a salute and then a soft smile afterwards.
She floundered for a moment, unsure what to say next. What came out of her mouth was, "Mr. Mercer gave me a special task, did you know?"

Shun flatly stated, "I do not need to take orders from you."
Then, shaking his head, he just tilted his head at her.
"A special task?"

She shrunk a little under the lifeless tone. "Yes sir, of course."
This was normally when she would have shrunk back out the door, but the beach had no door. Just the ocean. Well at least she could walk into it if things really went south ...
"Ah- yes. I don't know if I'm supposed to tell anyone ... but you're both detectives and all," she said, hesitating for a moment. It was probably okay, right? "He wants me to look into some old town records and ... someone named Mildred? No that doesn't sound right- Millie?"

Shun tilted his head at June. A case he was working on with Jeremiah... did she mean the supernatural s**t? He wasn't formally on any case with the older detective at the moment.
"Millie... I have heard of her. An old woman within the town. I have not spoken with her as of yet, however. Old stories may come in handy. History can be important to learn."

"That's ... what Jeremiah said too," she concluded. There was something a bit bitter in her tone, but it wasn't her place to voice her discontent. "I hope I find something useful for you three."

Shun raised his brow at June. There was something there in her tone.
"Three of us?" he asked instead, not entirely certain who the third person she referred to was.

"Miss Leila ... Ah ... I don't remember her last name."
Captain brought his stick over and June gave him a few approving pats before he began trotting ahead of the twosome again.

"Townholm. Our forensics specialist," Shun nodded. It made sense once June had said it. She might not have been around the precinct all that often, but she was still in the middle of this as well.
"History also has a way of repeating itself..." he uttered, sounding a little more hollow. It was a generally true statement, but there was also the matter of the cycles they were apparently trapped in.

She looked at Shun after the second comment with mild curiosity. "What do you mean by that?"
Had something happened? Again?

The sergeant blinked at June, almost hesitating for the moment.
"Just look at human history, June," he stated quietly, "Certain things have a tendency to repeat themselves in time."

"Oh ... I see." She gave an awkward laugh. "You and Mr. Mercer are both so mysterious sometimes."
She couldn't shake the feeling they were hiding quite a bit from her. Shun had admitted as much when they'd talked before. It was probably for her own good, and yet ...
"It's tough pouring over all those old wive's tales though. I'm not sure what's useful and what isn't."

Shun gave another light shrug. He wasn't a very open person in general, so he supposed that added to this supposed mysterious quality he apparently had.
"Catalogue it anyway. Finding the grains of truth is never an easy task."
