America looked like she could cry. And then she did after the first (******** huge) bite. "It's sooooo good. Oh god don't tell Taym okay? But it's sooooo goood, what is this magic sauce?!!" Wriggling her a** further into the blanket, she took another bite with muffled ecstasy. Kisses were, in fact, blown in his general direction.

"I won't tell Taym a word." There was absolutely no chance of it happening considering the two of them were best not in the same vicinity. He chuckled and winked at her as she blew kisses. The silver-haired man looked better than he had in weeks, considering the state he had been in for some of the pictures they shared back and forth.

Spending time with America also helped with his mood.

"If you really want to know, I'll text you the recipe later. Until then," another laugh, "enjoy. I've been having trouble eating meat with some of what happened so I had to figure out ways to make it taste more appetizing."

"You mean you're still feelin' sick or..." her expression grew more solemn. "I've questions, 'bout the murder party that happened while I was gone. Shun told me some and I...I'm worried about stuff, gotta say."

"No, I'm not feeling sick anymore, though ..." Jeremiah shook his head. There was, for the moment, no point in telling her that Sunny made his head swim quite literally. "It's just left a few lingering things behind in regards to eating habits."

The water bottle was opened up and he took a drink of it. The detective lieutenant held it in his hand a moment, lips pressed to a thin line. "I would imagine you would. What do you want to know?" It was an offer most would not get from him. An outright offer of information as she wanted and needed.

There were also sorts of things and details she wanted as much information on as possible, she wanted details, she wanted a written report because even if she wasn't what she'd call a book person, she was an information person. But first and foremost on her mind was, "Is there anything we can do? To make sure people don't go around taking folks and hurting them? Killing them? Is killing really the only sort of consequence we've got on our side? There's no magic prison or anything? No magic police?"

She sounded not just worried, but disappointed and uncertain. America would never call the world a fair one or a just one, not on it's own. People made it work, though. There were certain rules to it that made sure things could function, that good people could have the chance at living out a decent life. But how the ******** could those rules apply when magic could very possibly simply ignore the rules and consequences that held everything up?

"The only person who died that evening was Adoelle," Jeremiah said quietly, "and it was her wish. Something we made sure was carried through. It was her desire to see that the cage continue to weaken and eventually break." It was a noble sacrifice, one that still clearly left him unsettled with the way his eyes looked pinched at the edges.

"I don't know that we can stop people from being taken, however." He leaned back on his palms, legs stretched out in front of him and crossed at his ankles. "It is part of some process of that place, the court, that I know very little about." Jeremiah shifted, leaned and raked a hand through his hair. "There was a policing force for other ashdown but it seems as if it's been lost. The moonwalkers, apparently, were meant to fill that role but ..." Clearly something had happened and it changed but when and where and why were unknown.

The idea that it was an assisted suicide turned at her, it was something oily and toxic to her in some way she couldn't really bring herself to explore. Something she didn't want to think about, even a little. "Doesn't change what the situation was meant to be, just how it ended up," she insisted quietly.

She did, however, seem to gain new energy at the mention of moonwalkers. "But what? We know a bunch of them, right? We can help them figure out that role, right? Didn't they try their damnedest to fill it at the library, even without knowing that stuff?"

It was something oily and toxic but it was something that everyone who had attended was still trying to deal with. "It was foul from the start," he agreed, "and the end just as horrible. I had to- Algie was-" Jeremiah's expression darkened but he let it go because America was moving on.

Her exuberance at the mention of moonwalkers helped and it moved things forward, past the darkness. "I don't know that we can but we can certainly help them find out information where we can. I believe wargs, such as yourself, also have some kind of role. It honestly appears as if each different manifestation of power," the moonwalkers, the wargs, the nobles, "serves some kind of function within other ashdown but they've been ruined or lost."

Jeremiah pushed himself back up to sitting properly. "It's likely something we need to start looking into because it looks as if no one is keeping the Court in line at all. It is not even under the control of who it is supposed to be."

"Really? Wargs too...?" Suddenly, she was smiling again. "God, I better be, 'cause I ********' hate feelin' helpless." It had been dragging at her ever since Shun's explanation of events. She'd come back to make a difference, but what it that involved killing people, what if that just meant being on the sidelines to people with powerful magics and without care for consequence of any kind?

"I...I should probably talk to Sunny about stuff. She'd know lots about past wargs and moonwalkers, don't you think?" Purpose had it's own sort of magic over America. She finished off her sandwich, licking a bit of sauce off her thumb as she thought things over. "Should probably touch base with the rest, too."

She considered asking further what had happened to Professor Algernon, but she hadn't missed those stormclouds, not at all. And this was supposed to be a nice picnic, right? Definitely.

"I need to give her the souvenir I got her, got you guys a couple too." Back in the truck awaited a pair of kitty sized gator costumes.

"Wargs too." It was said as an affirmation as much of a reassurance. "... and if there is someone in this that I believe is far from useless, it is you." As America could light up a room and she could probably rally people around her. If someone could turn a tide, it would certainly be within her power to do so on sheer force of will alone.

"Ah ..." He raked a hand through his hair. "You should touch base with her," he finally said after he came to a conclusion after battling whatever it was going on in his head. For the moment he would let it go and not mention it. America was likely safer without that particular piece of knowledge.

For now.

"She was at the ball as well with her father." There was an eyebrow raise at souveniers. Though it was not surprising, Jeremiah had a few for her from their trip to England.

"Father, huh?" America whistled low and wondered if Sunny's version of a father was a nice one. She hoped so.

Flopping down onto her back, arms spread, America gazed up at the sky with a huff, part laugh, part sigh. "Seems like we got a lot of organizing n'such to do. Was talking to Shun about maybe going over t'the other side on the regular. Just to keep an eye on things. Maybe I'll start tonight."

"She doesn't claim him, so." Jeremiah glanced at America. "... and the stories say that she's the daughter of the otherworld and The Enemy." The detective lieutenant was soft spoken at that. "Who did reveal himself that night."

He nudged her with his shoe a bit when she flopped backwards, smiling at her. "I've been putting in extra time working on things over there, so let me know what I can do to help with that?" If there was organizing to be done, if there were steps that needed to be taken, he would definitely be there to help.

"Jesus wept," America sighed. So much for hopes.

"We should start now, get a list of folks who'd be interested in the same, see what they can do and what they'd want to do. Maybe figure out shifts of a sort...partners for safety and check-in calls. But first...I'm gonna need some cheesecake. To power up the ol' thinker." Tilting her head up, America gave Jeremiah a solemn look. "It runs best on cheesecake."

Jeremiah reached for her, giving America a firm squeeze to her shoulder. A quiet reassurance. Then he was laughing at her because she was obviously correct. "Forgive me for forgetting to bring that out after I mentioned it."

He leaned towards the satchel was pulling out the triple layer slice of cheesecake he had brought for her as well as a fork.

"I can help with that, the name at least, as well as the rest if you need it." That sort of thing was part of his actual job.

When a cheesecake was in front of her, America Jones could forgive just about anything, and she admitted as much out loud. The first bit was, as her usual, massive, taking a good bit of each layer. She liked to have that big, gluttonous bite where she could. You couldn't always do it. Sometimes you had to ration out good things, bit by bit, and take all your comfort from those bits. Sometimes the good things you wanted weren't around all too much.

But gosh, when you could just eat your heart out? Eat your heart out. Let it take all it can and look forward to more.

When she was done and praises sung (along with pleas to never stop spoiling her with good food), The Little Notepad came out. She had a professional here, and she fully intended to pick his mind about how to set up a good system to keep watch over the Other Side.
