"No," he replied immediately. "They are on fire, forever and always." Jeremiah was entirely serious when he said it and the look on his face implied it as well. "It's the only thing you can do for now, Preacher, though perhaps next chance I get I'll drag something over to this side so you can beat it up." His eyes glinted.

"That seems like a shitty thing to be - on fire." She wondered if they still farted and, if so, did it come out in small jets of flame? "Easily identifiable, though. I mean, unless the rainy side is like, full of dudes on fire." She shot Mercer a skeptical look. If she didn't trust him as much as she tended to trust people, Preacher would have assumed he was pulling her leg. "Yeah," she laughed. "Just give me a ring next time you drag weird s**t over so I can beat it up without getting in trouble with y'all. Still, I think you are not as careful over there as you are here." Gut feeling.

"No, it is not. This is something exclusive to him." Jeremiah's lips twitched. "I can only occasionally do things with fire. Though ..." The way he trailed off implied something but he was being deliberately vague just to be ornery. An eyebrow was raised at what she said last and he shook his head. "Possibly. The power I have here is nothing to the power I have there. Yet that is meaningless compared to those that operate within that sphere all the time." He shoulders lifted; a light shrug. "If you see something from over there that is here, then it is not a good thing."

"So like powerful MacDaddy over there, I see. Surely everything from over there can't be all bad? Like there's got to be some kind of good things. I dunno, small animals?" Preacher refused to believe any evil of a cat. Cats were wonderful, majestic creatures. Then she remembered he'd trailed off and she hmphed. "Wait, wait, wait. You can't leave me hangin' like that! What do you do with fire? Fire magic? Fire balls, making your hair explode into flame?"

"Usually," there was another twitch of lips, "it's the small animals you need to watch out for the most. They're the ones that are the more deceptive." Then Jeremiah was chuckling. "... though remind me to introduce you to my cat, Hellbine. He grows things." The silver haired man rolled his eyes a bit at her stuff. "When you're older, Preacher, I'll tell you or if you catch me outside of work."

"Grows things - like a small garden? Or gross stuff, like mold?" To Preacher, it didn't matter; she loved cats dearly. One day, maybe she could have one again. One day. She was looking at places, but still living that tent life for now. "Hey, I'm 18 already!" She was quite an adult, she thought huffily. At least the foster system thought so and if they did, why shouldn't she think so too?

"Flowers, herbs, and the like," Jeremiah snorted, not going to admit that he was fairly certain that a certain blonde had also convinced his cat to grow something else as well at some point but that was beside the point. "So you are ..." His head tilted to the side. "Still, you'll have to catch me outside of work, Preacher."

"Like a ********' chia pet?" Preacher wanted to believe Mercer, but was beginning to wonder if he was just pulling her leg. If that damn rainy s**t wonderland had cats that grew flowers, then she needed one of those cats. "Dude, how can I get one?" She leaned back and crossed her legs, swinging the top one idly. "I know where you live-" This was accompanied by spooky fingers. "Er... I... can... find out..." Now that she thought about it, she really wasn't sure where he lived. "Let me meet your cat?"

"... the only flowers the grow on him are the ones on his head." Jeremiah gestured to the top of his head, fingers spiking upwards. "Like a mohawk. I've no idea where you get one. I was given one because there were kittens and didn't quite realize just how unique he was until later." There was a brief pause. "When I say he grows things, I mean from the ground and the like." He chuckled then at her spooky fingers. "You can meet him if you want. In all honesty, I'm surprised you've not noticed him before. He shows up at the department sometimes as well as wanders through town. Hellbine thinks himself a messenger."

"Only slightly less impressive, I guess." She imagined if she asked who he got the kitten from, Mercer would remain tight lipped as always. "I haven't seen a cat wand'ring about, nah. But like I work at a big ol' desk, so-" Preacher shrugged. An entire army of cats could sneak past her if they stayed close to the bottom of the desk; she couldn't see down that far. "And yeah, I wanna meet him! All cats are great and wonderful and great, okay."

"So if the things grow on him it's more impressive? I've yet to discover something he can't grow as long as it's a flower or herb." Jeremiah snorted, somehow amused that to Preacher that it was less impressive. For anyone else that would have been mind-boggling. "You'll have to come by the house if you truly want to meet him." His head tilted. "... and no, I'm not giving you my address. You can figure that one out on your own."

"To be honest, everything is kinda boggling and impressive. So I'm prioritizing." She couldn't very well gape at every little thing, could she? It would hardly be becoming. "And are you givin' me carte blanche to go riffling about in the files for your address? I'm not a detective, boss!"

"No, I am not," he replied, "I am however telling you that if you talk very politely," Jeremiah gave her a look then, "with those in HR, they'll tell you." It was almost a challenge. Except it wasn't.

"Politeness, my forte," she said sarcastically. Preacher put it on for the job but, like an ill-fitting bra, shed it as soon as she possibly could afterwards. "Speakin' of HR, I guess I better get back out there afore I get canned. Say hi to your cat for me?" She scooted the chair back a little and stood. "No more gettin' beat in the head by men on fire, okay?" As if saying so meant anything.

"Tell him hi yourself when you meet him," Jeremiah replied back, clearly just as ornery as always. His hand flicked towards the door. "Go, go. I've got to finish putting together this project for the Chief anyway." He had turned back to his computer, about to start working when she spoke again and he gave her a strange look. "I make no promises." A twitch of lips. "... but I'll see what can be managed. I certainly have no desire to ever see him again." That, quite frankly, was the truth.
