It was definitely considerably more effective, whatever he had done. The sound of the crack was unmistakable, and Zebulon grinned as the bear almost seemed a little too distracted by its own nose to be bothered with the two of them. The bear's attack back, in fact, pushed Zebulon slightly but failed to push through him this time, the shield staying up and absorbing all the damage.

He was fairly sure this bear was wearing down. Hopefully they could tame him soon.

They were so close to done that Diryas could feel it. He could see that the bear was flagging just as much as he was. Now... now he would have to be as careful as possible. Even as the bear had enough vitality to charge them again, he knew that too much force would kill the Chosen that had turned into the bear. That was, in his book, a mission failure, and he could not allow that to happen. Even so, he did not pull his strike when he cracked the whip again. The turned Chosen was not going to show them the same kind of mercy that Diryas wanted to show them.

Brief description of character: seemingly the dictionary definition of "quiet loner type" who doesn't tend to speak much unless spoken to, unless it's about chemistry (having a phD in it requires passion, after all); petit in build and not the most athletic but willing to work around it.

Unfortunately, Zebulon seemed to be incapable of restraint. He either missed entirely or ... well, hit way too hard.

When he thought he saw an opening, he swung his shield around for a bash to the bear's head. It was flagging, and perhaps he should have aimed a little differently, but before he could reevaluate, it was too late. The bear was on the ground. It wasn't moving. It wasn't making any noise. It wasn't moving.

It was just a bear, right?

It was just a bear.

Definitely just a bear.

Zebulon coughed and, rather unceremoniously, glanced at Diryas for a moment before scuttling away from the scene.

Diryas, admittedly, froze when the bear went down and stopped moving after Zebulon's shield bash. Something in his gut twisted, and he was pretty sure the bear wouldn't be getting back up. The Chosen wouldn't be getting back up. Despite feeling like the wind had been knocked out of him, he followed after Zebulon. It would do no good to hover here, and they did not have tools for a proper funeral...
