The woman stepped out from around the men, motioning for Ergon to come closer to her. "Come come, you'll be safe here." Hargitt assumed she was trying to whisper, but failing spectacularly.
He should go to the-?
What?
What?!
He hadn't done a damn thing wrong, but now the little kid had a group of adults turned against him! Hargitt turned towards the kid, furrowing his brow while stumbling for something to say without much to go on. "Are you all daft? This child-"
"-is an innocent!" The woman chimed in. "Your name is Ergon, right? I sent my boy to go find your father."

Ergon perked up as the woman called to him and took a step toward her. He almost felt a little guilty... but then the big Sautian snarled, and Ergon hurried to grab the woman's skirt. "Next time, watch where you're going!" he snipped back toward Hargitt with narrowed eyes. "I am not a sack to be carried around under your arm, either." The indignity of it all! Yes, this was just some rude non-Zenan. He did not need to be concerned with what happened to the man.

The woman reached out to place a comforting hand on Ergon's head. Hargitt didn't miss the way she seemed to hide the child close to her, as if she could block the older 'brutes' view.
"You're a brat." Hargitt snarled. That didn't earn him any favors. As he was being distracted by the little whelp, one of the burlier men pulled his arms behind his back and tied his hands together. By the time Hargitt realized what they were doing it was already too late; he was caught.

Looking up at the concerned woman, Ergon gave her a small smile. He glared back at Hargitt though. "You're the brat!" he shot back, sticking out his tongue. Seeing the man's arms tied... Well, that's what happens when someone mistreats a Zenan!
Hearing his name called, he saw his father walking stiffly over to the group. As expected, the man aimed a sharp glare at Hargitt before picking his son up. Ergon felt better and laid his head onto his father's shoulder. This only confirmed that he had made the right choice!

WHAT?!
Annoyed beyond all belief, Hargitt roared when the men tried to pull him away and was rewarded with a hard thud to the back of his head. Whatever had hit him was surely meant to knock him out; though it did little more than stun him.
Did no one care about punishing errant children anymore? Were they just going to let this little runt get away with it?
Seeing his father approach and pick him up, as easily as if the child were an actual victim, clenched it for Hargitt.
And when another blow came to the back of his head, knocking him out entirely, he decided that he hated Zenans.
