“I… could probably talk your ear off on recommendations to be honest.” Zac said sheepishly. “I normally try and narrow them down based on what people are in here looking for, because otherwise I can come across as, um… Pushy.” He said nervously. “Umm… pretty much ANYTHING by Neil Gaiman, though not everyone was fond of his ‘Ocean at the End of the Land’ but that was honestly one of my favorites since the sand man series, Neverwhere, American Gods, um… his collaboration with Terry Pratchet is a must read if you haven’t… It’s called good Omens, they actually just released a ‘voice play’ for it, meaning that every character had its own cast for a radio production so that was pretty awesome.” He waved his hand and looked like he was almost about to say more but instead he clasped his hands together and gave a sheepish grin. “Yeah… like that.”

Nathaniel had taken out a tiny notepad and was jotting down notes as Zac spoke, scribbling the names of titles and authors with a speed and a precision from years of hard work at doing exactly this. He glanced up at the other, catching the sheepish expression, and laughed.
"Don't worry, I like books," he said mildly, Nathaniel sticking the notebook back away. "It's okay to get carried away sometimes, I appreciate it."
He held up the books that Zac had given him.
"I guess I should pay for these, right?"

Zac grinned and nodded. “Mmm, yeah, yeah it’s a good idea generally.” “If you don’t already have a card, I can give you one too, that way you can call us too, have us set books aside for you in advance. That’s sometimes helpful if you follow the Red Herring Mysteries, especially considering…well…” He waved his hands to encompass the store.

Nathaniel's smile was both rueful and sheepish at the same time.
"Those are my favorite books," he admitted, in reference to the Red Herring Mysteries. "I only just got the latest one, I came in here a few weeks ago and met Mercer for the first time; I had no idea he was from here, so it was pretty excitin'."

"He teaches at the college too." Grinned Zac. "He's pretty awesome. He's even better at finding books than I am too, which is also pretty awesome." Zac admitted with a gracious nod of his head.

"Yeah, I learned that a bit late," said Nathaniel, meaning Algernon's teaching position. "I haven't seen him on campus yet, but it would be cool to have him as a professor, I think."
He rummaged around in his bag and extracted an old, worn wallet made of some indeterminable brown or black leather.
"How much do I owe you, by the way?"

“Oh! Right!” He said and took the books back to punch in the right numbers to keep track of what they had sold. He then gave the price back and arched his eyebrows just to be sure that the price was ok. He didn’t want to repeat that they did holds at the deep risk that that might be insulting.

Nathaniel double checked his wallet three times while Zac rang the books in, somewhat ruefully pulling out a few dollar bills and carefully counting each one. He took a breath and passed them over, smiling.
"Thanks for all your help, Zac. Maybe I'll see you the next time I come in here."

“I hope so.” He said with a smile. “I really do, I’m… “ he hesitated but took the bills. “If you’re tight and want to read some of the others. Let me know? I’ll lend them to you first alright?” what more could he say?
