Finn Derouen | 25/25 | talking to Lady Red

Dead. The word sunk to Finn's stomach and congealed there like a lump of greasy turkey meatloaf. Aleksy didn't seem dead in any classical sense, but magic had its own rules. If his newfound vampirism kept him from a greater danger, perhaps it was worth the hang ups.

It didn't seem like she had anything to do with his turning.

"How long ago did they... Er, take you?" He asked. "Who was I texting?"

She looked like a teenager. Like before she'd left for Russia, but sharper. More polished. Like she hadn't aged.

"Is it safe to eat the food here?" He asked. "Or will we wind up like 40 years in the future if we do?"

Was it glamoured? Was all the finery really sticks and moss?

Gloom: doing his posts right finally; being spooky; talking to Nathaniel.

"Didn't-" Gloom chitters and stops. "Blood from the heart. Heart's blood is death. Death that you don't respawn from. That means losing friends." Shadows lengthened and for a moment he is gone from the chair and there is only darkness.

"We all do participate, even you, but I do not wish to lose friends or to be lonely. What is, is," he replies and only the whites of his eyes are visible before Gloom seems to conquer himself. He sits in the chair once more, a perfect shadow marten gentleman.

Lady Red: 25/25, talking to Finn. "Talking"

Lady doesn't answer. Not right away. She picks at her skirt, a nervous tic she'd never had before realizing just how long she'd been gone. 2016. God, had it really been eight years?...

"I want you to leave now," she says. "Please."

All of this was extremely confusing to Nathaniel, who felt as though he'd been tossed into some alternate universe somewhere. He tried to take note of everything that had been said so far, wishing he'd thought to bring a notebook or something to jot down notes.

Nathaniel's eyes flickered across the shadowy substance that was Gloom's missing form, biting his lip.

"Well," he said, reaching out and awkwardly attempting to pat the creature on the top of its head. "You've helped me out, thank you, Gloom. I sincerely hope that you don't lose any friends at all, that would be very, very sad. I don't want to lose friends, either."

Not that he had very many yet, but it would be very tragic to lose the few he did. Nathaniel got to his feet, water swaying delicately in its glass.

"I'll come back to say hello again," he said.

His hair was mussed, his clothes ruffled, and his temper lit. Alois knew far more restraint than Melany expressed in her wronging, but his irritation was apparent. He did not stomp, throw open doors, or shoulder check others out of his way in expressions of disappointment. The fire of ire he retained in gaze alone, in stiffer posture than before. He would not tolerate such antics as those he recently faced. He hated, perhaps most of all, that his curious abilities afforded no counterpoint to Hux's magic.

But that would not matter soon.

"Alexander," Alois called into the relatively sparse parlor. He cared little for the carpets walked on, the champagne offered. Hastily he scanned masks and flourishing attire for a sign of the man. They each made a promise, and while he could not wait for Thorne to return to him afterward, he intended to keep his word in the earlier events discussed.

Luck had it that, while Thorne was absent in the scarlet foyer, he was very much present in the plum parlor. Alois approached the man from behind, eyeing the long ears of the rabbit mask, before he clasped Thorne's hand in both of his with a gentle tug. "Apologies for not finding you earlier. I had errands of my own for Father. Come, if you please; I found a lot of three - no, four including the guest - who beg for your corrective touch.

"Two of my own have found masks. One pushed me out of the room with magic. We must put a stop to these antics."

The conversation with Nathaniel had been an abrupt crash course, one that was information sharing but did not necessarily give them any clear goals.

Whatever Jeremiah had been expecting for Gloom, that was not it. "By all means," he chuckled, though it immediately stopped when he saw her sitting in the room as well.

"... Krasnya?" He should have expected her to be here and he glanced to Algie. "I have to talk to her, Alg," he murmured.

Jeremiah gave Algie a smile, slipping over to where he saw Jamie and Krasnya talking. "Evening," he said by way of greeting. His attention flicked to Jamie a moment and he gave him a warm smile. "Good to see you, Jamie."

To Lady Red, however, he gave a different smile. One that was just as friendly but there was uncertainty there. "I admit that some part of me did not expect to see you here." Yet here she was and without a mask.

Kin not kind, human ancestry- The gears were turning.

"I'm glad regardless." Even with everything else.

Gloom visibly perked the moment that he saw Algie approach. There was an excited chitter before he seemed to calm himself. "Hello, Professor friend!"

Wait, no. That was telling. Roll with it. "Yes, it is a lovely party." Prim and proper, alright?

Nathaniel, now feeling both more informed and less informed at the same time, had sidled into the Plum Parlor after Jeremiah and Algernon; though he stayed a little back apart from the both of them while they moved about the room to speak to people. He made his way over to a chair and settled down, smoothing a hand down the front of his trousers and tried to look as though he was completely at ease, even if he wasn't.

Reaching into his pocket, Nathaniel pulled the napkin he'd scribbled on back out and laid it carefully on his knee, smoothing it so that he could read his messy handwriting.

He had both a large amount of knowledge and some puzzle pieces; now it was just a matter of putting them all together.
