Oh thank--anyone. She was so joyful that this unnamed man had finally had some luck that she couldn't feel how her boot was sinking into the snow. Green eyes strayed from the dead corpse, looking at the two birds that remained.

She tried, arm flinging outward, just as she felt her balance topple. The dancer barely held on as she crashed to her own knees, the leather meekly tapping into one of the two surviving bird's stomachs. Not even a squawk as the creature continued to beat them down.

    Marisol's Health: 22 - 5 = 17 HP
    Bird's Health: 22 - (50% x 4) = 20 HP

    Marisol's Weapon: Whip (4 Base; +1 Hit)

As he was finding his feet, Zan swung his dagger, catching one of the remaining bird's talons. He did manage to stand again after that, and while he thought of helping his fellow Chosen, before he could, the other surviving beast swooped between them, blocking his way.

Zan's HP: 20/50
Bird's HP: 18/60

Marisol grit her teeth, forcing herself up, and glowered at the creature that had taken up a position between them. Well that was it's mistake because she was furious now. She lunged, unexpectedly, tossing her arm forward and grinning as the whip wrapped around the bird's throat. With a firm yank, she pulled it down to the snow and looked up.

"Give it all you got, I don't know how long I can hold it!" she yelled, as she offered a prayer to Hermes. He had chosen her; he'd damn well better get her out of this alive. Or so hope him, she'd find a way to torture him.

    Marisol's Health: 17 - 5 = 12 HP
    Bird's Health: 18 - (200% x 4) = 10 HP

    Marisol's Weapon: Whip (4 Base; +1 Hit)

He would have thought it difficult to miss such an obvious target before today, but that assumption had clearly been proven wrong. Zan approached the restrained bird with caution, sinking his dagger into its heaving chest. It reared back and broke free with his weapon still embedded deep, but thankfully it didn't fly far. It was hers to kill now.

Zan's HP: 15/50
Bird's HP: 2/60

The last shot went to her. She had started the fight and now she would end it.

With nothing but the rage that crackled underneath her skin, she lashed out. The whip cracked in the air before slamming down on the bird. The damn thing had tormented them for the last time and while their was no satisfaction, there was relief that sang in her blood. She was alive as the bird's eyes went glassy, dulled by death. She was alive.

"Let's not do this again," she laughed at the man who she had roused her curiosity enough to come out here. And then to show she had no hard feelings, she reached out a hand, "Marisol Whelan, Hermes."

    Marisol's Health: 12 - 5 = 8 HP
    Bird's Health: 2 - (50% x 4) = 0 HP

    Marisol's Weapon: Whip (4 Base; +1 Hit)

He was uncharacteristically quiet as he watched the bird die, feeling that same odd twinge of sympathy even though these things were clearly a concentrated avian evil that needed to be contained.

Once he was certain it was dead, Zan approached. He knelt near the creature's body and retrieved his dagger, pulling a face at the squelchy sound it made without the noise of the battle to cover it. He held it out to one side, offering his cleaner hand to shake.

"Zan Gethin. Also Hermes. Nice to meet you. And let's definitely never meet under these circumstances ever again." He chuckled and briefly shook his head. "Thanks for saving my life at least eight times." He knew their god-gifted tokens took care of most of their injuries these days, but he'd had enough of bumps and bruises during his first fight with an advanced sparring dummy.

"Look it over if you want. I'm going inside to wash this off." He would wait for her, of course, but he would do so standing off to one side, dagger held away from his body like a giant, rotten fish.

The kindness wasn't lost on her as she took the hand offered. She had a feeling that hers were only marginally cleaner though especially with all the bits of--honestly, she didn't want to know what was inside them--that were clinging to the whip's leather. Perhaps she'd let it drag through the snow to get cleaned...

"I'm sure you'd have done the same for me," although the quirk of her lips was enough to say that was a more generic statement than a personal one. With a grin, "It'd be a bad move to start off my career as a chosen by letting one of my own god's chosen die. You're welcome, though, these birds are a lot tougher than they look."

The carcasses weren't nearly as interesting as the first one she'd down by herself. There didn't seem to be any feathers that had fallen off and she wasn't about to root around. A con was one thing, desecrating a corpse--even one as evil as these--was a little too much for her right now.

With a shake of her head, she stepped away, "That's all right. I think I've seen enough of them." Once the snow had helped to discard most of the bits left on her whip, she wound it up. "I think a respite in the hotel and soap are exactly what we need." She nodded as she began to walk with Zan to the relative safety of the building.
