He was seriously thinking about quitting at this point, with this zebra riding his tail like it was! He supposed that the zebra was the same that had chased one of his other competitors, but it didn't please him any. He took several sharp turns, but the zebra could always keep up with him.
Finally, he took a sharp u-turn, running past the zebra with surprisingly good agility and then he flew past. He heard a pained squeal and a thump and paused only to see the zebra fall behind him, a leg bent at an awkward angle. Well, at least he knew he wouldn't be having to worry about that particular zebra anymore.
Now hopelessly lost, he was just about to turn around and track his way home when one of the trail markers called out to him and set him back on the trail before he could protest. Oh well.

If he was honest, Majira was actually starting to feel pretty good about this race, now that the zebra was gone. He felt like he could actually win this thing-not test he ever really wanted to in the beginning, but he totally could! What a pleasant feeling!

It seems things are looking up again! Shadi was feeling much better now, especially with that dirty wild dog behind her. She made a mental note to laugh in his face, should she place higher than him. He seemed just a little to confident.
Getting distracted by her own personal victories she feels herself stumble a little bit, but quickly she collects herself and gets back on track. Her spirits were high now, this was going to be a good day, though win or lose she felt proud to be competing.
Somewhere he gotten ahead. Pakaja glanced about, perhaps not? He was suddenly by himself and feeling like a champ! It seemed his incident went unnoticed in his attempts at gaining some ground. "What was that?" He whispered softly. Paws grinding to a halt and ears alert. The sounds of hooves pounding the ground at an alarming volume caused his heart to jump into his throat.
Then suddenly from the bushes appears a large black and white creature with a trail of dust catching up. "Oh no." Were his last words before leaving that area and running, unfortunately he misses that there were rocks and large branches, ones he hits on his way by, but soon he escapes a terrible fate and arrives back on the track.
"Phew."Points - 5 ; Shadi & 2 ; Pakaja

"You're kidding me, you're kidding me, you're kidding ME!" He howled.
Seriously, how many zebras were on this trail? The first one had been trouble, but this this was just ridiculous! This time, at least, he knew where the marker was. The marker could deal with the zebra this time.
"Have fun!" He barked bitterly as he passed the other wild dog, who faced the oncoming zebra with wild eyes and bared teeth. Now back on track, he ran on, ready to end this stupid race!

"Oof!"
Distracted by sounds around her she misses yet another object that trips her and launches the pale wild dog into a stream, she just wasn't having good luck with this 'race' stuff!
A grumpy, alert, and soaking wet Shadi gets herself out of the stream, shakes what she can from her pelt and begins again - feeling a touch better in the bright sunlit area.Legs hurting, mind racing and heart thumping it's no big surprise that he finds the ground once again. "Am I even going to make it out of this in one piece?" The brown, mud soaked wild dog grumpily states to himself, this wasn't going to be a good day.Points - 7 ; Shadi & 3 ; Pakaja

"Not another one!"
This time she almost foresees what is about to happen. A stream was in her vision, but the rock that got her was not. She tumbled 'gracefully' in almost slow motion before dunking into the cold stream. "Just how many streams does this pack have?" She wondered out loud.
Shadi pulled herself up though and began to move again after furiously shaking out what she could. He was finally on the move, actually moving. Pakaja had a feeling it was to good to be true! Just how could he have gotten this far and expected to be handed a win. That wasn't about to happen.
Suddenly, a noise alerts him, and he stumbles on a branch almost falling to the ground. With a rush to his head he stops what he's doing to catch his breath.
"One of these times I'll beat the branch."
He sighs softly.Points Day 1 - 9 ; Shadi & 5 ; Pakaja

Warmpaws wasn't entirely sure what insane notion had prompted her to enter this race... this was craziness! She wasn't the strong sort! But here she was, and there went the signal to go! With a nervous gulp, she leapt into action, trying to focus on not tripping and making an utter fool of herself. In fact, she was so focused on where to put her feet, soon she realized there was no one around her... where had they gone? No wait... was that... a charging zebra! This wasn't the course! She'd gotten herself lost, but now she was being chased! Ears flat, eyes wide with fright, she tucked her tail and stopped worrying about where to put her feet. With her hindquarters curled as close to the rest of her as she could, she zipped and dodged and ran, attempting to shake the irrational prey beast. "Go away!" she yelped, "I don't want to eat you! Honest!" For some reason, the stripey creature didn't seem to believe her. She spotted a narrow, low crack in the rocky ridge to one side and made a dive for it. Sometimes being a smaller creature came in handy! She scraped some skin off her shoulders and managed to bang her nose looking back to be sure the zebra couldn't get in after her. With a sigh of relief, she scrambled along until she broke out on the other side and spotted a race marker. Whew, maybe she could finish the race now. Hopefully with no more mishaps! [First Roll Points: 1 Total Points: 1] Putte danced eagerly as he stood with all the others. How exciting, a race! He'd left his mother in the roguelands with their former pride friends while he came here to participate in a game. How he missed their old pride and the fun they'd had in it! The games, the competitions, the feasts, the celebrations! Ah well, this pack's race had a familiar feel of excitement and happiness that he was savoring. Unfortunately, the call for go came while he was still ruminating, and everyone set off at a run while he was still goofing around. With a yip, he hustled to catch up. In the mad rush and his own heedless desire to keep up, he managed not to catch the cue when everyone else parted around a particular spot. Full speed, he tried too late to leap the dead branch sprawled in his way. His paws caught, sending him into a tumble that smacked his back into the hard rocks beyond, then dumped him over the edge and into a mostly dried-up spring. He fell with a splat, breath knocked out of him and covered in scummy mud. He lay for a moment, panting and gathering his wits about him. After a few moments to recover, he stood up and gave himself a good shake, checking that nothing was seriously hurt. Nope, he was good, just... very dirty. He gave each paw a vigorous shake to get the worst of it off, then a good head-to-tail, bone-rattling shiver, sending globs of gooey grey mud flying. Well... he was off to a fabulous start. Now could he make up the time? [First Roll Points: 1 Total Points: 1]

Rakesh stretched. He was going to do what he could to show every that he was just as good as everyone else. Shaking off he got ready to get going as soon as the other yelled "GO!". He took off like a bolt. Maneuvering past everyone his paws hit the ground and he went running. Watching the others tails go from being in front of him to passing past him until it was his tail was the one they were looking at. He was doing well. Just continue going. [First Roll: 6 Total Points: 6] As soon as the Queen said "GO!" she had been off. Wanting to get into this race was something she wanted to do. However as she started dashing forward she didn't notice anyone else around her. She was starting to get confused until she saw the zebra. She darted away from it barely getting nicked. Oh man, had she gotten lost? Well she needed to continue. [First Roll: 1 Total Points: 1]

All seemed good for Warmpaws for a bit, as the path twisted and turned and then dove down into a crevice. She was looking around as she ran, trying to mentally keep track of where she was in relation to the dens, and didn't notice that when she exited the crevice, she didn't turn with the race's course. She had just managed to get a vague idea of where she was when she heard that dreaded sound again.
Hooves. Behind her.
She stopped dead and spun around, ears pinning flat to her head. It was that zebra again!! Not only that, but he looked bound and determined to run her down! She yelped and tried to dart to the side, but he pivoted with her and indeed ran right over the top of her, leaving a hoofprint or two. She howled in pain and finally snarled defiance. Fighting wasn't really in Warmpaw's nature, but enough was enough! As the zebra turned back towards her, murder in his eyes, she snapped at him and howled again, more in fury this time than pain. She'd tried to be nice, really she had! But a girl could only take so much!
She howled a third time and plunged towards him herself, startling him into faltering in his charge. At the last moment, she darted past him, though she leaned in to rake his hind leg with her teeth. Let that teach him a lesson! "Now leave me alone!" she yowled back at him as she sped back towards the course. Really, why had she taken it into her head to do this?!

Putte seemed to hit his stride finally, though he was far behind the pack. He put on a burst of speed through a sort of ravine, but as he turned with the course after it, a sudden howling and the sound of furious hooves erupted out beyond where the course had turned. He slowed slightly, turning to try and see if anyone was needing help, and thus wasn't looking where he was going. This time there was no branch and rock to treat him so roughly, but he still went nose-over-tail into a decent sized stream.
He sat up in shock at how chill the stream was, gasping and sputtering. Well then! Scrambling up out of the rushing water, he paused on the bank to shake himself off. At least that took care of most of the mud? Good things to be found in all things, he believed. Just then, another wild dog went dashing by, looking a bit worse for wear, but determined. It seemed whoever had been howling didn't need his help, and it was time he was on his way! With tongue lolling good-naturedly, he set off after her with renewed energy.

He slammed into the water. Oh it was in his fur. Cold but enough to make him feel refreshed and rejuvenated into getting back up. His paws were not going to slow him down again. No way. Stepping up and shaking off he got back to the course. [Second Roll: 2 Total Points: 8] Oh oof. This was too much already. Was everything against her? She believed so. Warmpaws was deeply grateful to be back on the proper path again, hopefully leaving that crazed zebra behind for good. She bolted past a white male standing beside a deep-running stream, presumably having fallen in. Well, at least that was better than being pummeled by hooves! If she never saw a zebra again, it'd be too soon! She thought she might hear those nightmarish hooves behind her at that point, in fact, and it sent her forward with more speed to her paws, eyes rolling in fright.
While she was trying not to look back over her shoulder, she was also not really watching the path ahead either. She darted between two screening bushes, eyes turned away. Just her luck, a creeping branch stretched across that same space, and her paws tangled in it briefly. She sucked a breath and strove to keep her balance as her momentum hurled her forward, tugging her paws free again almost instantly. Whew, that was a close one! If that zebra was still back there, all she needed now was to go sprawling on her nose and become a trampled dog! With a gulp, half of fear and half of determination, she bounded further along the trail. At least this time she hadn't gotten herself lost again!
[Third Roll Points: 2 Total Points: 4]
Putte might have caught up to the grey and white female, but he was distracted by a sound behind him. He slowed and craned his neck back towards the sound of fast approaching hooves. To his surprise, out of a bank of brush burst a red-eyed zebra. His flank showed teeth marks, and his face said that someone was going to pay! Putte was no coward, but faced with such a heavy, powerful prey beast, and on his own no less, he was no fool either!
Turning, he darted off the path and into a grove of small, stunted trees. He ricocheted off of several of them, trying to weave his way at full speed through them in an effort to escape the enraged zebra. He charged through a patch of briars, feeling the p***k of thorns in his paws and shoulders but ignoring the pain in favor of escaping hooves that could do a lot more damage than draw a little blood.
It seemed his ploy had worked, for he finally burst out of the underbrush and back onto the race's pathway. Glancing back, he saw no sign of the herd beast, nor did he hear the pound of hooves any more. Good heavens, had that been what the female had been howling about? No wonder! He'd have to mention the menace to someone in the pack after the race... that creature wasn't safe to have around!

Shideezhi continued to press on, but the race really wasn't going in her favor anymore. She had run into so many things and had fallen so often that her once bright coat was muddy and dark. Where were those rivers when you needed them, huh? She managed to get the worst of the mud off before starting off again, hoping the break would give her another burst of speed.

Things weren't going much better for Cŵn Annwn. After the little scare he had been separated from the dogs he had been running with, and unfortunately found himself off the trail. He was joined by a rather angry zebra, a mother not fond of the predator so close to her young. He got a few nips on his rear end before he managed to get away and finally he found the path once more. Whoops!
