The fact that The Cure are not emo has nothing to do with their lyrics. It has to do with the definition of what emo is.

Someone else pointed it out: emotive hardcore. Emocore. It's hardcore punk that address an emotion not normally addressed in hardcore punk, at least to my knowledge. Usually emotional. However, has to have grown out of hardcore punk.

Hence, The Cure, who grew from post-punk, aren't emo. Their music doesn't have the connection to hardcore punk.

And, your brother, the "crap music" he listens to, what is it, exactly? Do you know the names of any of the bands or songs?

The Cure pre-dates Emo by about 19 years, so your brother is full of s**t. I think Emo has jsut become a tagline to attach to something that revels in teenage angst and moodiness... Whether or not the cause for such emotion is warranted. I would take it just as your brother insulting your music, and not a serious statement at all.

It's blasphemy not to have some respect for the Cure! xp

I definitely agree with this. Just the other day when my friend was saying "the cure sucks!" I, of course, ignored their arrogance and chuckled at him with my friend and we both agreed and actually said "What a blasphemer he is!" People, people, people. Some are just so silly. whee
Oh, and the being emo thing. Psh, lets all scoff at her goofy brother for a second. -scoff- domokun The Cure is a band not to be labeled, for such greatness does not fit in only one genre. Das ist alles. heart

There is absolutely no way that the cure is emo...I've heard them called goth (because of Siouxsie and stuff...) but I think that their style has changed so much that you really can't categorize them. Love 'em!!! 3nodding heart

I don't think the cure is emo just because to the best of my knowledge they predate the emo movement by a long time. They pioneered goth rock so that is more what I would lump them into. Its gotten to the point where people tend to think that just because I song expresses some kind of emotion that isn't skippy hoppy happy it must be emo which just isn't accurate or a majority of the country out there would be called emo too blaugh

there are no WAY the cure are emo.

most of the kids at our school are emo.

and they are just whiney spotty twassocks who sing about how they wish their testicles would hurry up and drop.

I thought emo was a genre that stood for emotional punk...nyeh still everyone is called emo and besides who cares...maybe the cure created their own genre ya know...maybe the next band that sounds similar to the cure will be catergoriezed as them but since they dont have a genre ...hmm maybe a new genre should be created what should we call it....hmmm
