"Oh, my sister didn't have a choice. She's getting married to a man who will add to the monetary value of the family-- make us more rich, I mean." Ah, to be a noble who got to choose! She'd have put up a lot less of a fight if that was the idea.
She took a bit of flatbread for dipping. Propriety said that she couldn't be spitting date seeds in front of others. Were they pitted, perhaps? She'd have to keep watch.
"If I do have a wedding, will you come?" she asked. Who knew if it would be small or large, noble or common? She wasn't really thinking about marriage at this point. At least, not since she'd earned her freedom! "They are fun, I think. I'm not sure about all of the animals, though. They're not all good with new people."

"Oh.” Bahari tilted his head, apparently new to the idea of not getting to chose a spouse. “That’s no fun. I mean, Uncle Buthos doesn’t want Sarii to marry someone who isn’t rich or stupid, but he says she should pick someone she likes, at least. He says it’s no good marrying someone if you’re just going to yell all the time and not get any good sleep.”
There was a good chance that Buthos had meant something other than ‘sleep’ in his original explanation, but Bahari was as yet clueless about this sort of thing, and happily so.
"Maybe the man she marries will be ok and they won't yell at each other?" He shrugged hopefully.
“Oooh. I’d like to go to your wedding! Even if there aren’t any animals. But I think it would be better than animals. Uncle Buthos would let me go your wedding, I think. I don’t get to go out too much, but sometimes I do, for special things. Weddings are special. You can come to my wedding too, if I have one. I dunno if I will. I don’t even know anybody I want to marry. Everybody is gross. I guess I would marry you if I was older, though, because you aren’t boring and I don’t think we would yell at each other.”
He nodded sagely and bit down into a fig. It wasn’t pitted, but it seemed that a small silver bowl had been set out for the pits.

Ichil remained ladylike for her father's sake and didn't delve into the dates even though she would have rather enjoyed one. She nodded.
"They seem to like each other." In reality, she hadn't met his sister's beau once on a personal level. Her sister was going to be a prim and proper noblewoman for certain. That wasn't really Ichil's gig. Whether you loved your husband or not, you did your duty. That was how her parents were, and she hated it even more now that she knew what love felt like.
"Well, consider yourself invited, then," she said. She would not be forgetting this little one, were she ever to get married. Then the young noblewoman laughed. "Well I'd accept your proposal if you were a bit older, I think! And if I didn't have a boyfriend, of course. I like you."

grasshopper pie done on my end i think! that's so much for the super cute rp. o u o “That’s good.” Bahari nodded when Ichil told him that her sister seemed to like her match. It really would be sad to marry someone you didn’t like. The fact that some folks had different ways of living and different ideas of how best it should be done didn’t bother him too much -- like Sarii’s insistence on wearing lots of jewelry, or Lady Myranda’s dedication to good manners. But the idea of being sad and lonely in your house was a little much.
In any case, he was cheered by the advance invitation to Ichil’s wedding… and flattered by her saying that she would marry him if he were older (and she were single). It was, of course, a silly amount of impossible ‘ifs’, and he was much too young to be bashful about that sort of thing, but he grinned from ear to ear.
“I like you too! I hope you come visit again. Maybe next time I can show you some of my books and things. I’d visit you if I could, but Uncle Buthos says I shouldn’t go out too much until I’m older. Look, more food!”
Servants brought out another set of platters, this time loaded with spiced rice and roasted nuts. Bahari reached out to fill himself a bowl and was quickly chowing down, making sure Lady Myranda wasn’t looking his way as he dropped rice-grains all over his knees.

Ah, so they were waiting for him to get older? That made some more sense than simply keeping the child cooped up inside. Of course Bahari didn't seem to mind that all too much. He was smart for a youngling, maybe a little bookish, but since when was that a bad thing? She'd certainly like to keep an eye on this little one as he grew.
"Well, when you're older, you can feel free to come visit me," she said, "Maybe you can come out and see me when I'm visiting Kiyelt. He's the one with all of the animals." Besides, the kid might want to explore!
She smiled to the boy as he verbalized his excitement at the coming food and began to eat in earnest herself. Well then. This had been an interesting sort of gathering!
Stereochrome Done! Yaaaay, cute rp. 8D
