"Isn't this just our luck," Autumn mused aloud, though her face was entirely humorless as she looked around the empty building. She hated places, in Other Ashdown, that would've been full of life on the other side. It was way too horror movie for her tastes. Haunting. And not in the pretty, poetic way, either.
"Why not," she agreed to the proposition of exploring. She held the door open, and gestured for Alexis.
"After you."

They took a wary step outwards, hands clenched into tight fists, and surveyed the area -- but -- "I don't see anythin'. Maybe it's not here." Alexis doesn't allow themself to sound hopeful. This entire scene is going to go tits-up as soon as they look away for five seconds, probably, probably - and it's going to go all awful.
"This way." They gesture to Autumn, again, beginning to retrace the path they took to get to the cafe in the 'real world.'
Ashdown VVhaler tagging in for quest, figured this would be a good time!

(nothing)
(nothing)
(the sound of rain, their feet on the pavement)
(unease slowly creeps in)
(the rain falls harder)
(shadows lengthen)
(a cold chill comes over the both of them)

"I think you spoke too soon," Autumn shuddered, glancing over her shoulder nervously. A sinking feeling in her gut was telling her that she was not the only one feeling this. Her footsteps hurried uneasily, and she caught up to Alexis.
"You have... no idea what this thing is, right?" She questioned, just to affirm. At the very least... HOPEFULLY, she wouldn't disappear this time.
Hopefully.

"No idea," Alexis replied; shoulders in, tense, trying to fight the urge in every inch of their being to run run run run run, "I just --" their left hand had clenched into a fist, at some point; and it was trembling, clenched so hard their knuckles were white. "Iuno - just run -"
Their instincts run, and Alexis breaks into a panicked sprint, breathing hard.

Alexis ran, but Autumn did not. Her teeth clenched and she squeezed her fists, turning to try and find the source of the voice. She had not told Alexis her intention when she'd come along on this journey, but...
"Weak-willed my a**. We're at least here, yet all you're doing is being a spooky voice. Why don't you come out so we can talk this out face to face, huh?"
She didn't do bullies. Supernatural bullies or no. She'd run from the burning man, and it'd STILL gotten her and Zac in trouble. Never again.

"Smith - what are you doin' -" Alexis called out, because they could hear the fact she's not running, she was going to get herself killed, she was going to burn --
(there is no fire here --)<******** it. Alexis took a deep breath, pivoted on their heel, and stared at her with secondhand fear. "You need to ******** move." Their voice shook like anything, no tether in a storm, and the urge to RUNRUNRUN like iron filling their lungs hurt like hell but -- no. Autumn was more important. She had a life outside of ******** this was, anyways.

The feeling was overbearing. An all-consuming worthlessness, cloying at her mind and her being. Autumn snarled at nothing in particular, closing her eyes and trying to force the thoughts from her mind. They weren't hers, she KNEW IT. And yet...
"Whatever the ******** is doing this. Whatever the ******** is getting in your head. Don't you want to figure it out?" Autumn finally grit out to Alexis, looking up. Sweat clung to her brow, and she looked miserable. Tired and broken.
"Let's. Let's stop running. We're gonna figure out what this ******** is."

However bad Autumn looked, Alexis looked worse -- they weren't exactly the pinnacle of health at their best, and like this... they looked frozen. Like they couldn't breathe. Like someone had taken hold of them and trapped them in that pose, in that place, and they couldn't -- they couldn't --
(no no no no NO)
Alexis looked up, pupils so dilated their eyes could have been black, and gritted out a " -- fine. You - need to get out." Even that was a struggle. They couldn't move any closer to her.

Autumn wheezed. "We'll. We'll get through this. We'll figure out whatever the ******** this thing is, and get out okay," she assured, equal parts to herself and Alexis. This was one of those trips to Other Ashdown that really exhausted her. Like the first time. All of the fear, none of the excitement. Autumn dabbed at her face, trying to get some of the clinging sweat off of her face without ******** up her makeup.
"There. Let's try there," She pointed to the alley, nerves frayed. For the well put together woman, Autumn... well. She was still put together, just not as much as usual.
And it sucked.

For a few, terrifying seconds, Alexis does not / can not move - they were frozen deer-in-headlights, pupils huge, sweat tracing trails down their face - then something clicked, something made sense in their mind, and after stumbling over their own feet for a second they turned and moved to the alley. "Smith -- come on."
The please (or maybe thank you) went unspoken.
Moonztone Dazzle ALEXIS IS SORRY FOR DRAGGING AUTUMN INTO THIS, PROBABLY, I PROMISE

The alley is dark and the smell of smoke is heavy. As if someone recently had lit the trash in the dumpster in fire except that the dumpster is empty. If the feeling out on the street had been barely able to be dealt with, here it was unbearable. They were not meant to be here. The shadows lengthened here, unnaturally dark, and it seemed as if they would reach out to consume them both.
