Carminite kept his eyes forward, looking toward a goal--the castle--as they sprinted toward safety, though he did glance back to check more on his companion than the youma. Profanities and all the sort spewed from her, which would have brought him some level of amusement had they been in just about any other situation, but at the moment all he could do was echo her thoughts in his mind--he was too winded to try and get any actual words out--as they ran.
They were so close when he heard the thud followed by her shaky voice and some indication that the youma was still around. The man came to a skidding stop and turned around, eyes frantically searching for where she'd gone at first until they landed on the youma that was looking down into some kind of a ditch. With squinted eyes, he saw a chance for retaliation...and he didn't really even think twice about it.
Carminite had a running start, and with the youma distracted by the silly that was a woman falling into a ditch it was easy enough to come up from behind and kick it like he was trying to make the longest field goal of his life.
"I think I got it!" he called as he watched the purpley glow of its crystalline form slowly turn into nothing more than a speck in the distance...

Sarabauite clawed and cursed her way up the side of the ravine with what little strength she had. When she reached the lip of the incline, she hauled herself up and then splayed herself out on the pathway. She could only stare as the youma went blasting off (again). Weakly, she gave Carminite a thumb's up.
Never mind the bruises and cuts she'd incur from this little outing, that was the most fantastic thing she'd ever witnessed since joining the Negaverse.
Pushing herself up to sitting and then fixing her glasses, the lieutenant said, "A-are you okay? I mean, your arm, a-and that kick. Holy crap. Your foot's all right too, yea?" She rubbed the side of her head, mussing up her white locks as she stared off into the Rift. "I don't... think I'm going back there anytime soon. Nuh-uh. No way. Yeesh..."

The continued curses had him look toward the ditch as Sarabauite crawled back up and sort of just collapsed beside the edge as soon as she was up again. Carminite fell on his bum just beside her, groaning with the impact despite the smile on his face from the funky thumb's up his fellow lieutenant gave him. "It's been a while since I've had to seriously punt something," he started to say, eyes falling to his foot. A dull ache resonated from the top, but it wasn't unpleasant. Just a little uncomfortable, no more than the persistent itch under his cast that he'd forgotten until just that moment. He shook his arm a little before turning to look at her, his EMT training kicking into effect.
"I think I kick harder now, probably a Negaverse thing. Don't worry 'bout me though; you're the one that fell. Face first? You okay?" He leaned toward her a little bit, eyes squinted and making a visual assessment to see if she had any cuts or anything that needed tending to. When he saw none he straightened himself out and followed her gaze toward the expanse that stood now before them...seemingly empty--suspiciously empty--but apparently home to freakish looking creature-things.
"That sounds like a solid idea..." he said with a nod. "I feel like there isn't a whole lot more to see, anyway. There's the ground, the crystals, the youma..." and he trailed off, lips turned down in a slight frown as he tried to convince himself not to come back. He kind of wanted to explore some more.

Sarabauite wished she could sit there, forever, and forget about everything that recently happened. The hard ground of the Rift felt better than her bed and the aches within her just seemed to settle into her splayed out position. She went unawares of Carminite's examination of her, her eyes closed and her mind lost to whatever thought she had playing and replaying in her head.
Eventually, her eyes fluttered open, and she stumbled to standing. "Y-yea... Not a lot... to see," she said, the agreement barely rolling off her tongue because, as she stared on the Rift again, she felt that tug. To venture forth again and excavate beneath the hard earth for whatever secrets it held.
Some other time, some other time, Sarabauite had to chant to herself before she went rushing headlong back into the wasteland again.
Bending at the waist, she offered Carminite her hand. "Need some help getting back to the castle?" she asked. "I-I figure both of us could use a rest after that little venture."

He took the offered hand without much protest to the idea of giving in for now; there would be other days, provided they survived through the rest of the current day, to explore more of the Rift. Maybe when they were stronger, or maybe even just more in number it'd be a little less daunting of an idea to go forth and see whatever else the place had to offer. For now, he got to his feet and dusted of his pants.
"Sounds like a plan," he said before taking just one more sidelong glance toward the Rift. It was still dark and eerie and mysterious and there was still that urge to explore, but a rest ultimately sounded more appealing so he turned to the other lieutenant and nodded. "I could use a nap. I think I might actually have to work in a couple of hours..." and with that thought he frowned again and gestured back towards the looming castle just a little further ahead.Unoderi It's a bit weak, but fin! lol Thank youuuuu~
