"Not monsters, no, but something else. Kin not kind," he said softly to Jamie. "It would start delving into philosophy if we really got going; what is it that makes us human." There was a smile then, Jeremiah giving Jamie a reassuring one. "I wouldn't worry about it too much. You're you, Jamie, and I doubt very seriously that will change any." His spoon swirled in the gelato cup, Jeremiah taking another bite before he answered the next question. "I don't know, in all honesty. We may never know when we're ready. It may just happen and we have to deal with it when it does ..." He let out a breath then. "... and if we can't stop, I think we'll find ourselves having to do this again." Yet again, he was not certain. When did it reset? What caused it?

Yeah, Jamie wasn't quite equipped to fully understand. What makes us human, aside from the obvious? It wasn't as black and white as he might've thought a few months ago. The world was washed out with gray.
He supposed there was some reassurance in the whole you're you thought. As long as he could still claim that, at least he had something.
"I see..." he responded, an answer far too simple to truly express how he was feeling. The last bite of his jelato was gone the next instant. "But I don't know if... I really get it. Thanks for talking to me, though." He looked up from his lap at Detective Mercer.
"It's kinda scary t-to think it'll keep happening." His expression faltered.

"It's not something you can really process in one sitting," Jeremiah replied with a small smile, just the slightest upcurl of the corner of his lips. "... but I'm around for any kind of conversation you need to have about it, alright? Text or phonecall." It might have been unusual for some but Jamie was young and he reminded Jeremiah of his adopted son in so many ways. "It is," he admitted. "Yet we keep on facing it. You too, most likely, which means you're brave."

You're brave.
Jamie let those words sink in for a moment. It was a lie to say he felt brave. In fact, he felt like a coward. Still, he kept moving forward. Even though he was scared, he'd reached out for help in managing this new world he didn't understand. He supposed that's what Jeremiah meant, facing your fears instead of running away.
"I..." he started, sounding as at a loss for words as he felt. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing. "Thank you. I-I um... it means a lot to me."
He stood then, throwing his empty jelato cup in the trash next to the bench. "I think I... need some time to think about things. You, um, you mean it, though? Y-You don't mind if I... have more questions later?"

It was exactly what Jeremiah meant."Anytime, Jamie." It was a rare offer but not out of place for someone young, someone like Jamie who reminded him so much of Zac when he had been younger (and now still as well, when he looked lost). A card was pulled out of his pocket, a number neatly written on the back of it. "Absolutely. You could ask Chris, if you want, as I believe you know him that I've no problem with answering questions. Including if you need guidance on the other side, though I do not know I can be much of help in regards to your being a, ah-" He shook his head, making a gesture towards his head to mean the ears that he had had that night. "Though I can probably point you some directions."

"It's okay," he said, almost laughing. "I think, um, we're all kinda clueless still. About," he pointed to his head in a similar gesture, "this I mean. B-But I'm gonna try and learn what I can."
Taking the card, he looked it over for a second before it disappeared into his own pocket. It was legitimately reassuring to have someone to rely on, someone who was older and wiser and had dealt with this before. It didn't feel like any of them had the best position alone, but together maybe they could make a difference.
"Thank you... for everything. Oh, um, the jelato, too. Talk to you later." And he would. It likely wouldn't be long before Jeremiah got a text from Jamie Delacroix. With a small sort of wave, he left for home.azuredreams this can be a wrap unless you wanna do one more post!
