Soji Seta, Investigation Team Leader "Show me a hero, and I will write you a tragedy"
It was the small things that kept you moving forward in the face of a tragedy. Knowing that you had survived the end could keep you moving forward in spite of great odds; knowing that there were others like you who had survived the apocalypse could inspire you to keep looking for others out there who had survived as well. Being able to save someone who had fallen to the horrors of their new reality was enough to give you hope that there were others who could be saved, that there was some light left in the world, and when you worked together with others to achieve something like this it was all the more effective. Soji was grateful for all of these things as he saw the girl who saved him revived, able to move on, and he would not forget the face of the boy who had helped him save her, no matter how strange or eccentric he might have been. ...After all, he was the one who had convinced Mitsuru to allow Zeo to stay a part of their group in spite of his over-the-top shenanigans, so he had plenty of experience with the strange. Shun Fujomaki...he'd remember the name.
Of course, there were also those things which could shake you...make you question the worth of men and whether or not they were worthy of saving from the apocalypse in the first place. Though he found himself to be mostly unshakeable in that belief, a small group of dirty, poorly-dressed thieves loomed at the end of the street and he recognized the look in their eye when they saw him standing there alone as that of a predator looking into the face of its prey. Drawing his blade once again, he cracked his neck and let out a sigh. Oh, those idiots. Just because he wasn't wielding a persona didn't mean he'd forgotten how to fight.
"You guys really don't want to do this..." he warned them, brushing a silver lock of hair from his eyes as they laughed in response. Well, he warned them...

Shun Fujomaki "Ahhh..! That's more like it!" The demonic-assailant watched as more demons crowded up around him...And he giggled slightly. "Hoo boy..I hope none of you were that Frost's mommy." he mused, starting to dance on his heels again. "Because I may have kind of killed the s**t out of him when he tried to kill me."
Squabbles of angry demons, and a quick flick of the blades...The boy refreshed his energy once more. "Hehehe..I had a feeling." the boy called, before lunging into combat once more, and tearing them asunder. It was...a bloodbath, but he could keep his clothes clean, at least. The blades? Not so much...

He had warned them, to be fair. But when the band of thugs had tried to jump him he had no other recourse but to beat them handily, leaving them laying all around him in writhing heaps of still-conscious pain and agony. He had been careful not to kill, but a few wounds had been inevitable, really. Their leader got the worst of it, having an arm that was mostly useless now, but only because he had been the most threatening of the group...the sort who had gained the ability to lead through might alone, which was likely how he had banded this group of ne'er-do-wells together in the first place. But now they were down, and Soji rested, sweating a little bit and leaning on his sword against the side of a building near the station and the line that from signs seemed to lead down towards the beach village of Iwadate. He was tempted to go down and visit the White Sands he had read about in the past, but decided against it. There was somewhere that he would rather be, and now that he had come to realize his awakening had happened in the city of Oshu instead of Okina as he had originally thought, something unpleasant began to stir in his stomach.
...If he had been brought all the way out here, where was Yukiko? Where were the others who had been ready to fight the last time he had talked to them before this Conception? He gripped his Candelabrum tight and turned, whipping a roundhouse kick into the face of a struggling bandit that tried to jump him from behind and sighing as he fell in a wicked heap. Some people never learned.

Huh. That was weird.
Nito had been quite sure he was on his way into the greater Oshu City from the station when suddenly he'd fallen down and taken a nap on the floor of the station right then and there! Rising from the ground, he didn't exactly understand why he had done it, and he didn't remember having done it on purpose, but here he was standing and there he had been on the floor, so that must have been the case, he imagined. His neck was a little stiff so he rolled it, and he bent his knees and stretched his calves, quads, and hamstrings for a second time (because stretching before physical exertion was important, kids!) and then stretched his arms a little bit as well, rolled his hips, and glanced out towards the towering gray buildings of the Oshu City skyline. No time like the present for him to get to the heart of this investigation, was there? Sure, it felt like 7 days and a little more had passed since whatever had happened to the world had begun, but that just mean there would be so many more clues to find! This is the sort of thing that Kuzunoha were made to investigate, wasn't it?
He smirked, deciding that this would be his first real challenge as the new 4th Kuzunoha! And he was very eager to attack it head-on! Finished with his stretching, he readied himself to head down into town and started a slow job towards the station's edge...feeling vaguely like he was forgetting something important but brushing that thought aside just as quickly.

Huh. That was rather anti-climactic. His first encounter with the unpleasant devils roaming the streets of Oshu, and he'd managed to beat all of the weak little buggers in a matter of moments. It was almost as though he had started with an advantage, being used to fighting against demons and having superior hand-to-hand skills to go with his rather ugly-cute looking Preta. He liked it, though it wasn't the sort of devil that he was used to or preferred to summon. Idly, he missed his Grumps; he knew that if it were he and them together they would have worked together with all of the skill and epic strength of the heroes of old! They would have told tales of the legendary fighting duo, Nito and the Grump! Alas, but his Preta wasn't the worst companion, either. It was never lacking for jokes, even if they were a bit morbid and incomprehensible. Like, "Why did the human cross the road? Give up? There ain't no roads where we're goin'! AHAhahahAHAHahaHA!"
...Didn't quite get that one, but he thought it must have been a reference to something. 'Return to the Alternative Time Dimension of Accelerated Astral Rotational Progression', maybe? Wasn't that the remake of the old Western classic starring Kasuka Heiwajima? He did like strange movies...but apparently this Preta was packing much better references! He needed to catch up.
"You very well may have gotten the drop on me with that one, my dear Preta, but if you imagine for one instant that you've heard the last of my cinematic knowledge, you are...very...sorely mistaken!"

It was frustrating trying to keep up with his little Preta's references, because no matter how quickly he came up with 1980s film quotes, the little thing was even faster with a better comeback! It was maddening! Nito racked his mind for all of the memories of movies of the era for references, and finally, he was certain that he had come up with a few that would certainly overwhelm the thing! Victory was within his grasp! He laughed out loud as he spin-kicked a series of devils that approached almost as an afterthought...his Preta sitting casually on a picket fence nearby as it watched him do his work in frustration. It gave him a thumbs up as he turned and looked over at the devil, and Nito's satisfied smirk could be seen from a mile away.
"He WON'T be back."
Nailed it.
...In response his Preta held a boombox over his head silently playing 'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel.
...
Nito's cry of frustrated defeat could be heard for several miles off.

It wasn't getting any better for him, no matter how he searched his brain for the useless trivia that would prove useful enough to put this demon in its place! It was like this particularly little Preta had lived to consume every last bit of 80s movie knowledge, quotes, scenes, twists, and pop culture phenomena that emerged from the decade and crammed it into its brain for God knows what reason. But the thing was a virtuoso! Nito had tried multiple times to get the drop on him and one-up it, but each time the Preta would pull out some obscure movie knowledge that made him continue to look like he hadn't even seen'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'! It was ridiculous! Seriously, one time he had busted out some 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' facts that he was sure would surprise the thing; the Preta had responded by acting out an entire romance scene from 'Sixteen Candles' with such a stunning accuracy and emotion that Nito could scarcely believe that he was seeing a live performance by a single person instead of the actual film! ...Well, except for the fact that Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were far less attractive people than his Preta, but that was neither here nor there! It was amazing!
"Excuse me!" he called out suddenly as he spotted a moving hat perched upon a person's head heading towards a particular building under the control of a team of devils that appeared to have captured him. One sharp series of kicks and a Preta one-liner later, the boy was freed and Nito brushed his shoulder off casually, before speaking. "My friend and I are having a dispute, and we would like you to help us settle it. Do you think you could do that for us?"
...Isamu, rather stunned at the inane nature of the disagreement and the ease with which he had been freed, could only nod in agreement.
"Was 'Howard the Duck' directed by George Lucas? Because I say yes, but my overconfident friend here says it was produced by George Lucas and directed by Willard Huyck. Am I right or wrong?"

"What the...?! You guys are crazy!" their new companion screamed in horror as the loud blast of the trumpet sounded, a strange devil blocked its soundwaves from hitting them, and neither the Preta or its eccentric summoner companion seemed to blink at the near-death experience they had just endured, continuing to look at him for answers to their unspoken question. They were...insane. That was the only explanation. And Isamu began to back away slowly from the both of them, deciding that somewhere else was probably the best place to be if he enjoyed the whole being alive thing. "...Willard Huyck! It was Willard Huyck you idiots! Now leave me alone!" He shouted, turning on his heel at once and bolting in the opposite direction, never looking back at the pink-haired summoner that cried out in defeat and fell to his knees, nor the Preta that laughed and danced around him in victory. Foiled again! He had been so sure about that one!
"It's like his trivia settings are turned up to 11!" he sighed as he slowly got back to his feet, brushing off his pant legs and recollecting himself, before glancing at the Preta with a suddenly-there smirk, "You know, because in 'This is Spinal Tap' the mockumentary about that rock group they turned their amps past 10 to...e...le...ven...?"
...His surprise moment of triumph was silenced as, he couldn't imagine how, why, or when...his Preta was wearing a huge 80s hair metal band wig, with a painted face and an electric guitar, obviously having beaten him to the punch on this particular reference as well. And then jammed out a riff so loud it nearly knocked his beanie off his head.

"If I can't beat him at movie trivia, then I suppose the only thing left to do is challenge him another arena of 80s nostalgia," Nito thought to himself as he caught sight of the Yellow Dragon far off down the way, and as he did he considered whether or not he should stop in there to pick up some supplies, since he didn't know how long he was going to be on this particular job. Close behind him was his Preta, looking especially smug now that it had claimed superiority for good in their 80s movie trivia-a-thon. But Nito had not yet ruled out defeating him in another category. The game was far from over, nay! It had only just begun! "There are 80s television programs, reality programs, social movements...social movements would certainly be lost on a Preta, wouldn't they?...pop culture at large, the Mt. St. Helens eruption, and..." he tapped his chin and the Preta bumped into his back at the sudden pause in their walking, rubbing its face and turning its head 90 degrees to glare at him awkwardly for it. It was at that same moment that it came to him!
"80s Hair Bands!" Nito's finger shot into the air as if to catch the lightning bolt of inspiration that had struck him, before turning to the Preta with a smirk, "Name that band! 'Limelight', 'Tom Sawyer', 'Working Man'!"
This time, for sure, he had him.
...
Or so he thought, until the Preta smirked and crossed its arm as if to say, "Bring it on."

"Welc-ho-me! To thee Yell-ho Dragon's first ever 80s Trivia Challenge! I'm your ho-st, Frost-hee Ho! Now let's m-hee-t our contestants!"
A little blue-hat-wearing snowman stood on the stage of the Yellow Dragon bar where bands would have normally played for the gathered Syndicate big-wigs, but as it stood, the club was mostly abandoned save for a few demons that were lingering in the club, keeping to themselves after one of the two contestants burst in a few minutes ago in a rage, muttering about how "Of course he'd know Rush! Everybody knows Rush! Even devils in the Underworld know Rush!" before beating them all into submission when they rushed him...but sparing them out of a mixture of distraction and annoyance. And now that person, the summoner, was sitting behind a table on one side of the stage while a little Preta was sitting at another, the stage vaguely lit by candlelight before the microphone, the stool, and the Jack Frost standing on the stool speaking into the microphone, introducing the two of them one-by-one.
"To my left, thee Summoner Hee-lite, Jakken Ku-zu-ho-ha!"
He waved his card towards the summoner, who gripped his drink glass tightly and smirked confidently, challengingly across the way at his opponent...who seemed to giggle in response and tilt his head awkwardly again.
"To my right, thee Hellspawn 80s Trivia Champ-hee-hon! John-hee Preta!"
Nito's eyes opened sharply, standing and pointing accusingly at the Preta suddenly!
"Hellspawn 80s Trivia Champ-hee-hon?! You're THAT John-hee Preta?!"
The Preta merely smirked and tilted its head back in response.

"Woo hoo! Go Johnny Preta! We love you!"
...A high-pitched, feminine voice cried out from the back of the bar as the Legendary Trivia Preta nailed yet another question, this time about the hits of Jethro Tull. It belonged to a High Pixie that had joined the fray and been convinced to stick around for the contest, but she had hardly needed convincing when she heard the name John-hee Preta come out of the mouth of that Jack Frost working the stage right now! Every devil in the Underworld had heard of his exploits down there, how he had smoked even members of the Four Horsemen in 80s Trivia Contests! That this summoner had challenged him at all made her admire him for his bravery and proclaim herself to be his new ally, but watching him get smoked by his obvious superior in trivia right now was amusing enough that she would have stuck close to him from here on just for the amusement of it all. Either way, the score was now a rather lopsided 5-2, and there were plenty of questions left for that score to widen. She couldn't wait to watch it...just as the summoner probably couldn't wait for this schooling to be over.
"Next question!" he called out, groaning and leaning back in his chair.
"This categor-hee is...Fred-hee Mer-cur-hee!"
...It was going to be a long game.
