Shun's fingers twitched as Chel began to mock him and his demeanor. Without answering her, he just passed the small bag back to her, then began to walk off on his own. He didn't really feel like putting up with her right now.

Chel really wasn't sure how she had an amazing ability to stick her foot in her own mouth. She trailed after him and eventually got in front of him. "Hey at least take the present. Stalk off all y'want but don't deny free stuff."

---

"Yes!" she said, now fully getting a glance at the owner. She felt a little bad for having beelined for the dog ... but it was so cute. "His name's Captain." She usually just gave that version because the long version was kind of embarassing.

"And yours?"

Shun gave her a stern look when she cut off his path. Folding his arms over his chest, he shook his head, "You bought it. It is yours. Now get out of my way."

"Bought it fer you. I don't even play."

She wiggled the bag in front of his face. "I know where you live an' I'll slip it under yer door anyways." You couldn't really argue with that.

He was used to his dog getting most of the attention whenever they went for a walk, so he didn't really mind owners commenting and asking for details about Chubbs first before asking for his name. "Captain," he said, glancing down at the pup for a second, more than a little amused at its stubby, wagging tail. Still barely a smile though. "Pitbull terrier," he answered, brief as always. "He goes by Chubbs mostly, sometimes Doc." His full name wasn't something he ever said out loud to anyone; he usually had his sister share that particular detail.

"I go by Rhys," he eventually went on to say, and there was even an extended hand for a handshake to maintain the sort of formality that usually came with introductions. "And you are...?"

"Then give it to Jack. He plays, right?"

Shun moved the bag out of his face, then pushed on past her, hoping that she'd take the hint this time around.

"He's green, not gold," she said with a grin. "Gold's more you." But black suited them both.

---

June didn't understand why people would ever ask about anything but dogs. Dogs were important and Captain's wiggling butt agreed. The poor corgi's tail was so short that it compensated by wiggling its whole backside.

To emphasize her point; June hadn't stood up to properly face Rhys. She was still squatted over and petting his dog. "My name's June," she said, adjusting her glasses. She didn't notice the handshake at first, but when she glanced up she realized she'd left him waiting.

"Oh!" She stood up and took his hand, fixing her hair with the other hand. "Nice to meet you sir."

Chubbs had been leaning every which way, probably to try and get her hand to whichever part of his head or his neck he wanted to get scratched. The pup even grumped a bit when she stood up, but quickly turned his attention to the bouncing corgi, his own butt-wagging a show of excitement to meet a new friend.

"You, too," Rhys said, a little surprised to find that she was so much shorter than him. With the way she'd been leaning down to pet Chubbs he couldn't really tell. Now that he'd gotten a better look at her, a corgi seemed oddly fitting. He didn't comment, of course, and let the thought pass before clearing his throat. "So, how 'bout some customary small talk? You been here long?"

"Just leave me be, already. You are being kind of obnoxious, and I would rather not be in a state of constant irritation while I am here," he grumbled.

Chances were he was going to feel some level of annoyance throughout the day regardless, and this really wasn't the greatest start. But maybe Shun could do a thing or two to reduce that to some extent.

Elizabeth-call-me-Asimov Ducret was supposed to be representing her artwork and handing out raffle tickets to people who signed up for her mailing list. What this meant in practice was apparently hitting on the hot couple at the kissing booth next door.

"If you can't take the heat, hot stuff, get out of the kitchen," she advised Thorne, not unkindly. Definitely snarky, though, full of every ounce of sass she could eke out of it. Which was quite a lot, really, since she'd grown up doing nothing but sass. She tossed her mohawk out of the way of her face and smiled winningly at Maeve. "Asimov Ducret," she said. "Haven't seen you around before."

Susan Greer entered the city's center with a wide, unabashed grin on her face. She could barely contain herself as she fought to find a good parallel parking place alongside one of the available sidewalks; inwardly screaming with joy at the idea of strolling through the streets and perusing the local art scene. She'd been away for a long time, after all. The years outside of Ashdown had trickled by slowly. Her heart had ached for her home- and now, just when she needed it most, it was here.

Susan slammed the door of her dinged up antique VW bug shut. Her boots thud-thudded against the street as she moved towards the lively scene. The scene that she belonged to, and perhaps would have even been apart of- should she not have taken her trip up to New York. Megan would've loved to be here, too... She thought to herself, smartly whipping out her phone and sending a text off to her best friend, thousands of miles away.

She stowed the Distraction Machine, and let her eyes roam the booths and carefully pieced together projects on display. She took out a camera- a cheap, throwaway one- and began clicking away at whatever she found to be interesting enough.

It was good to be home.

Well, at least Shun was using his words like she'd taught him.

"Oh." Her shoulders sagged a little because she had been enjoying teasing him, but she'd taught him to tell her for a reason. "Alright. Deuces then." She gave him a wave and disappeared into the crowd, hunched over a little more than she had been before.

She saw a kissing booth in the distance and thought it was sort of lame (who actually needed to pay to get kissed? Yikes) but she did see Thorne behind the booth and that made her raise an eyebrow.

She approached with a lopsided grin, if not feeling a little bit guarded thanks to earlier. "The ******** you doin' behind here man?" She looked at other woman that was talking to him and said, "Sorry don't mean to interrupt or nothin'."

Captain was equally excited to meet a new friend, though it was kind of hilarious to watch with the slight height difference.

She laughed at his joke and said, "No actually! I've only been here about a year or two. It's my first uh ... whatever this is!" Seeing as she had literally wandered into the event, she didn't know the first thing about it.

Thorne and Maeve looked up together when a woman approached, beginning to chat them up. Thorne because he'd been in Maeve's life for years and new her like the back of a hand. Maeve because Asimov was gorgeous, and who wouldn't want to kiss her?

Her smile was slow and coy. "Oh, darling, this little creature doesn't know when to quit," she purred, her voice silk. "Maeve Hargrave-Carstairs. I only just gate-crashed this place." She flipped a curl back over her shoulder and grinned. "Care for a kiss?"

Thorne, meanwhile, knew when Maeve was interested in stealing the show. His response went along the lines of, "A little bit of fire doesn't scare me." Sounding mildly ruffled by the idea that something as simple as a kiss would scare him off. He straightened up and looked at Asimov, not smiling quite as charmingly as Maeve. But a bit of rough elegance bled through, a reminder of who this man was.

"My name is Thorne. I live perpetually in the shadow of the redhead, but I've lost a bet, and my services are yours as well, if you want them."

He looked up at the familiar face beyond the other woman and his expression brightened, eyes lighting with mischief. "Hey, long time no see, " he retorted, his eyes wicked with delight. "I lost a bet. Want to smuggle me out? Or are you here for something else?"His tone dipped, amused. And he added, "On the house, of course."

Huxtable Keighley, upon arrival, was immediately quite jovial about the aspect of checking out this strange small new town's art festival. Though somewhat hesitant about attending an event after the chaos at Rider-Waite. Hux had ultimately made the decision to show up when Margaery had returned home from a hospital visit, eager to visit the city's heart and attend one of its favorite events- First Friday.

They sent the kids to their father's parents for a visit- and, together, they now strolled through the city. Margaery, sporting her buzzcut in preparation for the hair loss that would transpire during her treatment. And Hux, with his long locks; pinned back in a thick, draping bun. They were practically twins, despite their gap in age. Tan, dark-haired, and handsome. The joy they shared at being somewhere together was obvious. It reminded Hux of his younger days, when there had been no one in the world more important than his sister. When there had only been him and her against the rest of the world.

Those days were long gone. They had parted when he'd left her with her children and her husband in Austin. Years passed. They were together again, joyous. For the time being. With the time that they had.

Huxtable tugged his sister towards the kissing booth as soon as his eyes made contact with the woman that had worn those heels at the job fair. He'd been quite eager to speak with her before, and then she had vanished. Now, here she was again. At a kissing booth, still surrounded by her wine and cheese.

He plucked one of the cheese samples from it's pretty placement, popping it into his mouth and chewing. He raised his eyes and hummed, looked at Margaery and gestured for her to try- which she did.

"Can I buy a bottle of wine?" She asked, as soon as she had delightfully sampled the fresh slices of cheese. "And a hunk of whatever cheese it was I just ate because that was ******** delicious."

"I'll buy a kiss." Hux said, grinning.

Lucas did not. Want. To be here. But the boyfriend had texted an invitation and he was powerless against that jerk's charms, much as he figured most people who met him were.

And at a kissing booth? ********' A.

He ran his hand over his half ponytail before readjusting his steel-blue sleeves just below his elbows, glancing around with about as much interest as he'd had at the fashion show. This was more his scene, granted, but after the last gathering of people still fresh on his mind, this wasn't exactly an ideal situation to a man that was still healing.

Exhaling slowly, he came to a halt next to the first familiar face he saw - ironically, one of the last he thought he'd see again. "Sergeant," he greeted the man drolly. "Not exactly a place I'd thought I'd run into you again."
