"Not necessarily." Jeremiah gave Shun a look. "Think about it more like it has taken something that is a skill of yours and made a mockery of it. It's no longer just your skill but some other force making itself known. Magic helps you, just a little bit, because it's not part of here." Not yet and an entirely different conversation but not at the same time. His stomach twisted. "The simple answer, as much as it is redundant, is magic. other ashdown is nothing but magic and our world is not." He sat back properly against the bench, hoping the warmth would seep into him. "After I went missing, the fog that rolled in blanketed the town. Other people found themselves there as well and we were all lured to the State Park." He let out a breath. "A trail of blood was found that we followed until we found Heliodora's foot."

Shun took a moment to consider that thought before he slowly nodded, "Yes. I can see that."He supposed suddenly having magic to make what used to be something you could do well, even better, was a bit 'cheap'. The younger Detective fell silent for a time again as he listened to Mercer continue to explain what had happened awhile back. It was unsatisfying to hear that the answer to his previous question was just 'it's magic'. Then again... he wasn't sure if there was really any other way to put it. When the impossible was now possible. "So it being on the beach was not the first time you had seen that foot, then."

"You're probably as unsatisfied as I was with magic being the answer but it's the only one I can give. If you ever go to other ashdown, you'll understand." Jeremiah's expression shifted just slightly, enough that he was giving Shun a tired wry look. "It isn't just the not being able to miss that I can do either, it's just the easiest one to demonstrate. You'll find proof of magic if you look around town enough." His attention flicked to Hellbine who had stopped purring and simply gone to sleep in Kuroda's lap. At least the dodder vines had stopped creeping up the legs of the bench. "No, it was not. We found it that night and it eventually lead us to Heliodora." A slow exhale of breath was released.

Shun honestly wasn't really sure how much more proof he wanted to stumble across at this point. It was really hard to deny, and just the idea of it all made him somewhat uncomfortable. Possibilities now seemed endless, which could spell a lot of trouble. With the cat on his lap now asleep, he stopped petting him for the time being, just letting his hand rest on the creature's back as he spoke with Jeremiah. "How safe is she, though? The way you put it earlier, it made it seem as if something or someone is hunting Adoelle," he started, "For that matter, do you know what the immediate threat is?"

"Within her demesne she is safe." His thoughts trailed to the fact that Heliodora had been able to stop everything that first night. She was not as strong as Sunny but she was still powerful. What would it take to- Another thought to not think about. Yet Shun's next question was tied to just that. "We've no clue what it is that is hunting Adoelle or if that even meant she was being hunted. I can only guess that that may be the case because Michael was not supposed to be here. "As for the immediate threat? That is harder to explain." As it was not necessarily immediate but there were those that possibly worked for it.

Shun tilted his head at that. "Autumn mentioned some sort of enemy. Granted, she also insisted that they be referred to as the Gardener," he recalled with a shrug. He was going to need to contact her later on for her insight on that matter. Even if she didn't have anything that Jeremiah had, it was probably a good idea to check in on that anyway. "Still, that implies we have some sort of figure we should be on the lookout for."

Jeremiah raised an eyebrow at the Gardener but he understood the usage. "It's better to not even name it. Names have power, if you believe in that kind of thing." Jeremiah, if he was honest, did believe in those kinds of things now but for the moment he was going to name drop. "There is but it's simply The Enemy. The more you talk about it, the more you bring yourself to its notice." He raked a hand through his hair. Fact of the matter was, he already was probably noticed but he was not going to encourage anything. "As it stands, it's just recently woken and - so far as we know - it's in other ashdown. You can only look out for things that are on this side unless you're able to go to the other side."

"Normally I would not believe such things... but perhaps I should start," Shun sighed. There was still a fair bit of skepticism that he couldn't quite shake. Not yet anyway. It wasn't easy believing everything so soon. Just accepting that magic was a thing was hard enough, though he was getting there, slowly. Focusing back on the conversation, he quirked a brow as he was given a basic rundown of The Enemy. "That is... an incredibly vague foe."Which he felt made it all the more dangerous. Knowing one's enemies was pretty important, he felt. "What is it capable of?"

"The deeper you get into this, Kuroda, the more you'll find yourself unable to deny it." Jeremiah's attention turned away, blue-green eyes searching. It was habit now to see if he caught sight of anything of other ashdown. "I would think, more appropriately, would be to say what is it not capable of?"

Figures as much. This was a rabbit hole, and he was making his way down it. "I am already caught up in it. I might as well try and see how deep I can go," he mumbled. As Jeremiah looked away, he did as well, to see what had caught the older man's attention. He didn't spot anything out of the ordinary, personally. "So we have an all powerful entity in that other realm. I am going to take a guess and say that this thing probably wants to come to our world, and if that happens, s**t will go down. So this somehow falls upon those who can cross over to ensure that does not happen?"It sounded like the plot of some fantasy movie. All it needed was a prophecy. The Sergeant shook his head at the thought. If he was right at all, that posed quite an issue. It didn't sit too well with him; the idea of an issue he could do little about. He didn't like sitting by and watching others work. "As far as I know, I cannot enter that realm, based on what you have told me. What then, could I do to assist?"

"That's the gist of it." Jeremiah looked a little weary at hearing it put that way but it was that way, so far as he knew of it. They would have to stop the Enemy, do whatever it would take to stop it from getting loose. "What can you do here? Just keep an eye out for things. Not everyone is aware, not yet but that time is likely coming after what happened at Blackfriars. There's not much that you can do unless you find yourself dreaming about other ashdown." His shoulders rolled and stretched. "There are people and things that are making their way over from there and we need to be alert. Keep an ear out for anything unusual, anything that can't be explained."

Shun closed his eyes at that. A part of him had known that answer coming ahead of time, but he still didn't care to hear it. He was going to need to be vigilant, in that case. Most likely a good portion of the Police Department were unaware of all of this. But unfortunately attempting to fill them in would likely only make him sound like he needed to be committed in a mental institution. "I shall do that then. If I find anything... I will let you know first."After a pause, he looked over the older Detective once more. "So why is it that you feel like you just walked out of a freezer? You said there was a story... but you never actually stated it."Might as well while they were here.

"If you do, you've got my personal number. Something that is visible to people who aren't able to go to the other side is not good." Jeremiah let out a breath, then sighed. "If magic is ever commonplace here, more than it already is, then things have gone very badly. This world isn't magic, not like over there." He blinked at the question about his body temperature and snorted. "I told you about how we found the foot the first time. There was ... a deer there. A deer with multiple legs and eyes." Blue-green eyes looked over to Shun. "If you know anything about, ah, Slenderman at all - just think about that but as a deer." Which as a detective, as someone in the police force, it was likely Kuroda did after the Slenderman inspired attacks in the years previous that had happened. "Regardless, I made in angry when speaking about bringing Heliodora back to this side."

"I shall keep that in mind," Shun nodded. There was soon a very faint curious look in his eyes as Jeremiah described a... very odd-sounding creature. He had heard of the reports from the previous years, having gone over some of the past incidents when acquainting himself with the town, but at the time he hadn't put much stock into it. Someone could have been playing up to the urban legend. Apparently not. "For the lack of a better term... it then 'cursed' you with a frigid body?"The Sergeant made a note to himself to tread lightly around any weird slender-deer creatures.

"Something like that. It encircled me in cold fire," Jeremiah replied. "Tried to burn me alive with it. Fire went up along my back because I backed into it, also along my leg." There was an annoyed huff at that because of the itchiness of having to grow leg hair back. It was not a fun experience but then again - none of it had been. "When I came back out on the other side, after the adrenaline faded, I found my back was burned along my spine." A hand was raised, rubbing along his shoulder for a moment. "It isn't normal scarring, it's looks like frost." As in it was actually blue, cold looking. "The cold spreads from there." Jeremiah turned his head to look at Shun. "Hurts like hell sometimes too, my entire back. Especially when dealing with incidents like Blackfriars." Something about high stress magical situations ... Yeah, guaranteed pain and cold as ice Jeremiah.
