"Mr. Bitterberry?" asked Eve, after extending her thanks and giving an approving smile at America's choice. She pointed them around past the freezers and the cereal aisle, which the bulk section was just past.

"My bluejay friend," America grinned. "I met him at the library, during all the craziness. But I'd been glimpsing through his eyes on an off for weeks before that." She ducked her head, smile fading as they walked toward the nut bins. "It's why me and some others were there that night. Miss Lara was having us gather together." America still hadn't been able to bring herself to visit the other woman. To fight against something she didn't understand and risk herself was one thing, to be helpless in the face of another person's suffering was another. Was outright terrifying.

"I actually don't think I knew people here could do that," Eve remarked, her expression lighting up with interest as she watched her new friend appraise all the nuts and seeds available. "I guess I was distracted at the time. What's that like? Is it... just seeing?"

America consulted her phone a few times as she picked out various nuts and dried fruit. "I think it depends on the animal you've got a connection with. Miss Lara's dog could offer her smells and such as well. For me it's seeing, but it's...it feels like more, in its way? I see colors that don't exist for my own eyes, and perspectives I'd never have, not just flying," and here her voice has a piece of wonder for just the word. "But what it's like to be small, to find a soda tab beautiful and fear sudden shadows on the horizon." She shot Eve a shy smile, "I feel fortunate, every time."

"That... sounds wonderful," Eve admitted, closing her eyes momentarily in an attempt to imagine. "Mindfulness exercise, that's what a therapist might call it. I think I can relate a bit, too." Giving Clover a small stroke across the head, she continued, "With being a... were-fox, I mean. When that part of me first came to the surface, I woke up one morning, and the smells -- there was suddenly a whole new dimension to all of them. Sounds, too. I couldn't see any color those times either, so it was like my vision had taken a back seat to my other senses."

Thinking it over, America nodded and asked, "Are smells good? Better, with full scope you get? Like...I guess it always seems, even smells that seem bad to humans, animals and such that see from the nose, they don't mind them so much. If there's bad in it, they're getting the good too." She paused for a moment and added, a little chagrined, "It's weird saying animal sometimes, now. Like I should find a better word or three."

"It's more like..." Eve pondered, "smells fill in the blanks colors do. And it can be nice. A lot of them made the hair on the back of my neck prickle up, like it might when you're hungry and smell something good cooking. You're right though, when something smells awful enough..." She trailed off, letting the girl imagine. It looked like they were both done here, leading Eve to suggestingly tilt her head towards the checkout lane and exit. lizboot can wrap on your post? *o* <3

Out in the parking lot, there's introductions as Mr. Bitterberry first swoops in to briefly harass Clover and almost seemed ready to give Eve the same treatment before abruptly and violently flapping to halt his momentum and crash back into America's chest. Laughing, hand cupping protectively over the small body, she says that's what he gets for being rude to puppies. If the girl turns a bit shy at the exchange of numbers before they part, it's something Eve will get a glimpse of again and again later on. America's not a shy person in general, but there's just something about Eve's motherly friendliness that has her quietly desperate to impress the woman and awkwardly left with no idea as to how.
