So close...Tryston's blade flashed in the light as he parried another attack from the side. How had all these men gotten into the trail so easily? It was almost as if they knew these mountains - as if they had lived her for years...the thought was worrisome. No normal villagers attacked like this nor did any random bandits know these paths well.
Shaking his head Tryston missed the wanna be hero action before he heard noise from the side. His gaze widening the male watched almost as if the were in slow motion. Thankfully for him his own attacker had pressed him towards the back. Not caring for his own safety the male brushed past another dueling pair - receiving a good slash to his own arm as he tumbled forward and barrel rolled into the assailant who had pinned Constynce down.
It was a tricky move but it allowed for Tryston to surprise the man as they both went tumbling forward...not that this attack would allow him to go uninjured either. Such reckless movement allowed a spray of crimson to decorate the freshly fallen snows as they rolled....

As Constynce stared up at the man pinning her down, her eyes would play tricks on her. The attacker would be a man, then a black-eyed woman with antennae, then back to the man, and then back to the woman. Her scream was stuck in her throat, too terrified to move. She could hear her mother yelling at her to hide. Even when the looming figure flew to the side, the spear digging in to leave a thin scratch on her chest, she laid still. It took a moment before she could breathe again, her mother's voice filling her head.
'Quiet, Constynce! Stay in here! Not a sound, my darling. I'll be back.'
"Momma!!!" she shrieked out, sitting upright. Here though, there was no closet to hide in. Her mother wasn't there to keep her safe.
Someone else was though.
Tryston! He'd told her to go! She scrambled back to her feet, though, the sight of the snow stained red nearly dropped her down again, her legs moving on autopilot. There'd been so much red on the ground after the attack... Red in her room after opening the closet door... Her mother lying there... There was no closet to hide in...
Tripping over her own feet, she ended up with a face full of snow. The cold seemed to clear her vision just enough... She could see the caravan. Her closet this time around. She couldn't leave her mother to die this time though. There was room in the closet. Turning in place, she looked back at Tryston and reached out an arm, trying to will him closer through thought alone. "Tryston!" 'I don't want to be alone in the closet again... Don't make me listen to you die.'

Something was wrong...as much as he wanted to protect Constynce from whatever inner turmoil she was facing in the moment, Tryston knew that if he failed to focus on the actual fight then there may be no more need to worry about the girl's inner struggles. Still, his desire to be next to her kept him moving as he struggled forward. She needs me.. All he had to do was stretch out a hand and grab that lifeline...
Yet, as soon as his fingers brushed against Constynce's hand the male heard the first rumblings of the mountain. There had been a reason that most of their attackers had backed off - they had been buying time for nature. He had to move! But then something grasped his ankle and Tryston felt the pull of his attacker. Cursing, Tryston hesitated only a brief moment as he looked at Constynce before his grasp for survival turned into a desperate shove that pushed her forward.
"It'll be fine." He managed to throw the words at her in that final moment as he was pulled backwards towards the moving wall of white, "Just run and live, Constynce!" His command echoed the mountains as his final shove pushed her forward on the trail while the crashing snow divided them both and hid him from sight.

A moment of calm started to settle her back into the present as she felt Tryston's touch. Just as quickly as that calm came though, it was pulled out with a force that took her breath away. Her entire focus was on Tryston, practically begging him to come with her. She even stumbled after him as he was pulled away, only to be pushed back toward safer ground.
The rest was a blur. Tryston was there, and then he wasn't. A leaf guard grabbed her and practically dragged her to the wagon and her fiance's waiting arms. The attackers were fleeing the avalanche, so their own escape was unhindered.
The man holding her spoke soothingly, but between the roar of the tumbling snow and the thudding of her heart, Constynce heard none of it, and could only see visions of white stained by red...

He had managed to stab his opponent, but the wave of snow was too crushing. Closing his eyes the boy went backwards into the ravine where the cold darkness awaited him. Was this truly going to be it? His last few thoughts were regretfully of a summer sun that he had failed to truly protect...sighing, Tryston's vision went white as the snow completely covered him as a blanket....
It would be fine - she had made it out at least.
And for that he would be eternally thankful...
