At Shelley's stammered apology and explanation, Sean relaxed a little. It did make sense that she'd be worried after something like this. It was bad enough you heard about this wort of thing on the news (or in the rumor mill) now and then, but actually seeing it happen must have been a shock. And the sight of her rubbing her temple made him realize she looked rather worn out, too. Had she been working herself up over this?

He smiled at her and tried to look reassuring. "Of course you want to keep your friends and family safe. Anyone would. But try not to overwork yourself. I'm sure you're doing the best you can, and if you wear yourself out you'll be in no shape to help."

Given the circumstances, it made sense that the oddly-dressed man was to blame somehow. Sean just had no idea how, since there was still no indication why he'd collapsed or recovered. So he just said, "Very likely he was. But since I don't remember what he looked like very well - everything happened so fast right about then - I can't really press charges or anything."

That would be funny, especially since they probably wouldn't recognize each other. But Sean needs to get out of the hospital and corrupted first. razz

Shelley gave him a doleful smile. "I can't help but worry," she told him. "Thank you for your reassurance, though. I guess the signs are kinda obvious about how badly I'm taking this, aha..."

There was certainly truth in her words. Leaning back in her chair, the teen folded her hands neatly on her lap and glanced about the room. Her eyes eventually landed back on machine for Sean's heart.

"Even if by some miracle we did find out who your attacker was, the police probably wouldn't do anything either," she said. "It seems to have been the same case for other victims. No one was brought to justice. It's frustrating, so frustrating..." Shelley sighed. "By the way, how are you feeling? There's been no trouble since your sta— Since you've woken up?"

Haha, I know. It'd be interesting to see how they fair against each other when he does become a lieutenant, though~

Sean wished there was more he could do to ease her mind, but it was hard to do without knowing more about the situation. Not to mention he wasn't in much of a condition to help anyone, especially given the strange circumstances of his hospitalization.

But he could reassure her about his own condition. He smiled and nodded at her question. "Yup, no trouble. I've been feeling a bit weak, but I'm assured that's normal after prolonged unconsciousness, and I'm getting better. No further signs of illness since I woke up." He paused for a moment, his smile slipping, then added, "Not that there were any signs of illness before I woke up, either. It was odd. Or so I'm told."

For once, since the start of their conversation, the ease and smile on Shelley's face seemed genuine. It felt good to be reassured of his well-being, especially when she put forth the belief that it was she who saved him. It was an entirely selfish thought, but Shelley allowed herself the liberty of it.

"I am honestly glad to hear that," she said. "Many don't make it through, but it is good to know there is always the possibility of recovery."

Drawing a breath, the girl said, "Is there anything you'd like to know? I mean, not just of the incident, but of other victims who has been through the same situation." Averting her eyes to the window, Shelley added, "I been looking into the incidents so much that I have some knowledge of... what they go through. I can answer anything on your mind."

Sean was glad to see Shelley seemed to have a genuine smile now. She looked like she could use a little happiness right about now. It was nice to think he'd helped cheer her up in some small way, even if it was pretty much just by being conscious.

Her off er answer questions gave him pause, though. He could probably think of other questions given some time, but there was just one that had been at the forefront of his mind ever since he found out there was no clear reason why he'd fallen into a coma. "Well..." he said slowly, trying to figure out how to phrase it. "Basically...do you have any idea why I fell unconscious and couldn't wake up? Until I suddenly did. I was told that medically there was no apparent reason for either to happen. If the same thing's happened to other people, maybe there's some idea why?" He looked at her hopefully. He wasn't sure how much he knew about the situation from a medical perspective, and knowing why wouldn't really change anything. But it would be nice to know.

Shelley's mouth opened and closed twice before curving into a reluctant smile. The explanation was right there, on the tip of her tongue, but the information would just not come.

There is a crystal in your chest, it is your very life. Removal of it is akin to death. Too long without it and it is death.

Just imagining herself saying it sounded ridiculous. So Shelley shook her head.

"I'm sorry, I don't," she said. "The only interrelated factor among the other victims I've seen is... there was always someone who attacked them beforehand. That's it. It's never been the same person and the circumstances have always been varied. That's the best I can offer. Anything else?"

Sean sighed and shrugged. He supposed ti was a bit much to hope she had any idea what was wrong when the doctors had no clue. He supposed it would just stay a mystery, then. And as long as he was well again, that was really the important thing.

No other questions came to mind right away that weren't rhetorical or trivial. So he just shook his head and answered, "No, I can't think of anything else. Thanks for offering, anyway."

Shelley hummed out a note and then tilted her head at Sean.

"Well then, if you have any questions, you can get into contact with me if you'd like? I can provide my email or cell phone."

Even though it was an offer, Shelley took out a notepad that she had on her person and scribbled down her information. Tearing the square of paper off, she slid it onto the table beside Sean's bed and nodded her head.

"And please keep me updated on your condition and any complications. You should recover to your full strength, though. Considering the hour, I should be leaving now, but do contact me anytime."

Sean smiled and nodded at the offer. He would have happily accepted, but she spared him the trouble and handed it to him anyway. "Thanks, I will," he said as he picked up the paper. He glanced at it to make sure he could read the information, then slipped it into a backpack his mom had brought him with some books and things.

He turrned his focus back to her as she proposed leaving, and responded, "OK, thanks for visiting. And I hope you feel better soon." Realizing that sounded a bit odd coming from someone in his situation, he amended, "Or less stressed, anyway. You look like you need a good rest."

Unoderi
Sean will have to hold onto that contact info. It may come in handy farther down the line in his plot, when he takes a starseed from some one, actually learns what it is, feels terrible about it, and feels the need to talk to someone.

Shelley bid Sean goodbye with a nod. "You're right," she said, sighing. "I could definitely use some. Actually, that's what I'll do when I go home. I'll see you sometime, Sean. Do make a speedy recovery."

When Shelley exited his hospital room, she lost strength in her knees and slid back against the door. Rubbing her temple, she thought, I've been pushing myself. Honestly, I do need some rest.

Letting out a sigh, Shelley staggered down the hallway and headed for home.

mewrose
Glad it could be useful to his plot~
