Lara looked up with a suddenness that seemed at odds with her sickly appearance and friendly nature. It was distant, as if it came from a different floor, but clear--and then something running, something slamming into the wall outside the room and scrabbling at the door, ramming into it to try to bust it down--
THUD.
THUD.
THUD.But soon enough the thudding stops, the labored breathing fades, and they can hear it leaving. Lara picks up Cerby and crosses the room, holds a finger to her mouth at the group behind her. "Hang tight," she whispers, and she sets Cerby down on the floor and opens the door, cautiously. The pair of them peer out into the hallway and Cerby, at least, recoils.
"Blood," says Lara. "Something happened downstairs..."
She steels herself, visibly. "We should go see what we can do to help."
The antique railing looking out over the concourse has been clawed to s**t.
