A part of Lily, a not-insignificant part, had somewhat hoped that when they reached the top he would say that he'd been joking, that it was some prank the locals paid on out-of-towners and that she had finally lived there long enough to get the punchline. But he looked serious and his voice quivered in a way that seemed serious, and Lily slowly began to realize that this might have been entirely more information than she'd been looking for.

"Oh," she said softly, adjusting the helmet on her head. "That's...a lot. I thought it was just a weird place some people went to."

"...What about a woman with red hair? Who tells you that you're becoming something...different?"

Her eyes were intent and her voice was low, and when the words left her lips she immediately felt the sharp bite of regret. Zac didn't need to know her story. She didn't know him like that.

But still, she wanted to know.

Well, s**t. If Zac had an idea of who Lady was, then maybe she was less of a group hallucination than she'd thought.

"That's her," Lily bit her lip when Zac mentioned the detail about her being tall, and she rubbed her nose. "What did she tell you?"
