"You've got it easier, then!" Phoenix laughed harder this time. "Whoever they're going to be, god forbid they don't like pink and lace." He grinned. "For the time being they're going to be sharing a room with my daughter." It actually hadn't occurred to him until Nell brought it up, but it would be interesting to say the least if they had a problem with Zoe's choice in decorating. At least the room was big enough that if they needed to split things up and redecorate half of the room it wouldn't be too complicated to do so.

His mouth made a perfect O at the description of Nell's Essence. "That sounds exciting! It's a shame I can't see it for myself."

"Hah! Well at least they'll have someone they can play with, or at least learn how to compromise!" That, also, was something of a hurdle for her to get over. Sure, the Lab was a good community to turn to, but surely it would be good for them to interact with more of the world outside of the raevans, right? And since she didn't have any family and few friends outside of work and the Lab, trying to figure out things for them to do was going to be a bit difficult.

"It was, um. Exciting. Yeah, that's a..." Again she trailed off while she tried to figure out a good word to encapsulate the all too exciting and not terribly pleasant experience of dealing with the stone. "Exciting is a good word for it. But hopefully you'll be able to meet them soon! And they should be a bit more talkative than a rock is, that's for sure!"

A stray thought caught her mind, another issue that Phoenix was facing that she didn't really have to think about. "How's your daughter taking it all?" She knew she would be excited when she was younger to get a sort-of sibling, but each kid was different after all.

Compromise was something that was going to be interesting to see play out between the two, whenever that day came. Zoe was quite mature for her age, but she was also very set in her ways and a particular sort of child. He gave a bit of a nervous smile. "We'll see, eh?"

On the other hand, his smile brightened when Nell asked how she was taking the whole ordeal. "Actually, the whole thing was her idea!" He laughed, his eyes sparkling with joy over it. "It's kind of long and complicated, but suffice it to say she's the reason for it all." It was pretty involved. There was a lot behind Zoe's want for a sibling and why things went the way they did, and it was far too heavy for a casual chat at the gym.

The gym! He'd almost forgotten why he was there in the first place. "Oh!" He pulled the clipboard back out from under his arm, waving it a bit. "Mind if we have a seat somewhere to talk while I fill this out? I don't mind continuing this discussion, but I'm still kind of on a tight schedule." He smiled helplessly. As much as he would have loved to stick around and chat for ages about this, he knew the time was quite limited and he still wanted to make sure he got at least a small workout in before he had to get to the restaurant.

"Oh gosh, yeah! Sorry, I tend to get carried away sometimes!" She gestured for him to follow over to a line of benches that were set along the wall. "Don't let me keep you if you need to get going, by the way!"

She sat down next to Phoenix, pulling one leg up so she could rest her chin on her knee. "Well that'll make things easier at least. I only told my dad about it, kinda not looking forward to the rest of the family though," she admitted with a laugh. While they wouldn't react too badly (probably), there were still a few rather conservative members of her family that probably wouldn't approve.

Phoenix, unfortunately, was all too familiar with the concern Nell had regarding her family. His own had not taken to the news too kindly, and as a result things had been a bit strained between them for months. The problem with having old-fashioned parents was, amongst other things, that they often frowned upon new, “different” ways of doing things. They were not shy in voicing their disapproval that Phoenix was single and raising a daughter on his own, and that now on top of it he was not only still not actively trying to change his relationship status, but growing his family by one floating sand child.

Keeping his thoughts about his own family's lack of understanding to himself, not wanting to discourage the woman and hoping her experience would be very different, he simply smiled while he settled onto the bench next to her. He deposited his bag on the floor in front of him, crossing an ankle over his knee and resting the clipboard there to begin writing. ”I'm sure they'll surprise you,” he said optimistically, giving her another reassuring smile. Phoenix leaned forward to read over the paperwork, scribbling out his information pleasantly flourished writing.

Her family, save for her stubborn grandma and a few aunts, had grown tired of bugging her about when she was going to find herself a husband, so that was one less thing to worry about on her end. The magic part, though, would be a tough sell for many of the more conservative and religious family members.

"Well, if nothing else at least they're over there," she said with a sigh, mining pushing something over to the side. "And that'll cut down on people coming over just to 'see how you are'." While she did miss living near her family, there were some times when she was glad they were an incredibly long plane flight away.

"But that's what family's there for I guess, wouldn't be the same if they weren't nagging at you for something."

”Psh.” Phoenix waved a hand dismissively while he continued to fill out his information. ”I could do without some of the nagging. But my mom is trying a new tactic. She ignores me and the situation.” He grinned, but inside it still hurt a bit.

Phoenix reached into his pocket, pulling out a leather wallet. ”If you never need a sympathetic ear,” he fished out his license and debit card, and lifted the clip on the clipboard to secure them in place before handing over the finished paperwork to Nell. ”You already got my number. Family can be rough, I get it man. Change and new things aren't always easy. But they'll get over it.” He winked.

"Ah, well, at least it'll give your ears a break?" She was not as familiar with ignoring as a form of protest, her family tended to be on the more loud and pestering side when it came to things they didn't like.

"Ain't that the truth," she muimbled. With a large grin she accepted the clipboard, quickly scanning through the form to make sure everything that was needed was filled out. With a satisfied nod that everything was in order, she hopped to her feet and tucked the clipboard under her arm.

"I'll take this up to the front and get it all entered into the system, it should be ready to go by the time you're on your way out! Is there anything else I can do for you?"

Phoenix stood and swung his bag back over his arm. "I think I'm good," he said. Now it was time to get as much of a workout in as he could fit before he had to get going. His time had been significantly cut into with the conversation, but he didn't regret that in the slightest. It was always wonderful to meet another guardian, and he was constantly astounded at how everyone seemed to be popping up out of nowhere now that he was involved. He hadn't had the slightest clue about any of it before!

"I'll be back in a bit for those then," he said, nodding towards the cards on the clipboard. "It was good meeting you, Nell!" With that he waved, smiling at the woman, then took off at a brisk walk towards the equipment.
