Hunting Grounds

    Thorne was definitely just crazy.

"Y'know, you could get arrested for saying you're going to 'kidnap me' and s**t like that." he joshed as continued to inspect his surroundings. A smashed in window left broken glass littered delicately on the floor, and he bent down to inspect one of the larger pieces between his fingers.

Thorne's seriousness caught him of guard, but only for a moment. Shiloh lifted his head, huffing loudly as he looked back down at the natural mosaic. "Yeah yeah, whatever...." his response sounded noncommittal, but the gratitude that he felt honestly went beyond words. He'd thank Thorne for it someday. Someday.

    It was hard.

Thankfully the topic was dropped as quickly as it came up, eyes following Thorne's to the massive catwalk. <******** if I know." he scratched his nose, "It's gonna be your dump of a house."

if it fits shiloh??? sits???

Thorne finished off his second pizza with a flourish of greasy fingers in Shiloh's direction and laughed. The sound was deep-bellied and honest, tinged with his familiar warmth. When he opened his eyes, they were wild with delight, a strange and eclectic sort of freedom he hadn't realized had been missing from his life.

"What, is that all I am? That's very rude," Thorne retorted. "I've heard I can be charming and honorable too, on a good day. Thoughtful, even, considering what a grand gift you'd make."

The reckless tease was edged with a cat's smile tearing across his lips. Thorne lounged back, looking across the room at the boxes, most of them taped up and ready to be transferred to the new place. He'd just got a call that the new flooring was good to go, most of the windows had been fixed, and the kitchen... well... it was almost there.

"I don't know, you're cute and small and fit in boxes, and Chris likes you." Thorne tilted his head at Shiloh. "Also, I wouldn't fit. Shame, right?" He snorted at Shiloh's sudden realization and he added, "I don't know, why don't we ask him?"

He picked at another piece of pizza, popping a pineapple slice into his mouth.

      "What's yours?"

Thorne was crazy. That was a moot point. But Thorne was also innovative, and this project was going to be fun.

"Do you really want to put me behind bars?" Thorne retorted, glancing sideways at Shiloh. He scuffed his shoes against the concrete, spinning around and walking backwards into the monstrosity. The shadows swallowed some of his features and he grinned at Shiloh, half-concealed.

"Maybe a library, or a studio," he mused. And then he prowled back towards Shiloh. "Alright, alright, I promised you food. I think we can call this place a success and go get something artery clogging at McDonalds now, yeah?"

"Sometimes." Shiloh drawled, dropping the piece of glass back down onto the ground. It was still large enough that it shattered more, and he started to toe the remnants with his boot, grinding it down where he could.

When he looked back up, Thorne was half-cast in the shadows. Standing in the belly of the beast, so to speak, the inner walls of the warehouse around them, Shiloh couldn't help but feel slightly unnerved. But then annoyed. Thorne wasn't allowed to look cool. Outside, the thunder rumbled. Seemed like that storm was fast approaching.

"Studio might be cool." he finally agreed with something, going over to a window to inspect the outside again. It was, in fact, starting to drizzle. "Not as cool as McD's. Glad you're finally talking some goddamn sense." he was starving. Though he still wasn't sure how he would call the 'plan' a success.

"Yeah yeah, charming and honorable and a ********' creep for trying to send a person to their teacher in a box." he snorted, recklessly teasing back.

"And honestly," he was sitting on the floor with his pizza, flicking at a pebble that he must have dragged in from the gravel outside, "I don't know why he gives such a s**t about me. I was like, easily his worst student." Shiloh's lips were pursed into a thin line as he reached up, adjusting his beanie atop his head. "His problem now, I guess. I doubt I'd fit in the box though." Maybe? Did it matter?

There was a moment of consideration before he went to his next point, but he finally answered. "It's May 23rd." he told Thorne quietly without any explanation. There was pizza crust to shove into his mouth.

Thorne shrugged, laughter wicked on his lips. He tilted his head back, eyes wild, the whites flashing from the splinters of sunshine still pouring through the dusty old windows. The gears in his head were already working, turning, piecing together the parts that didn't fit.

"Studio, then." He looked back down at Shiloh. "Let's go get artery-clogging food and try to buy a warehouse then."

Thorne scoffed at Shiloh, giving him an amused look over a slice of exceedingly stuffed slice of pizza. "I am heartfelt, genuine, and damned nice to be paying shipping. Jeremiah says you might cost me a fortune, you know," he purred, waving his phone in the air before dropping it back to the counter and taking another bite.

There was an air of callous amusement to his words, his eyes flicking over Shiloh with that familiar, lazy intent. "I can only imagine the terror you must have instilled in the classroom, but you're worth more than you make yourself out to be," Thorne retorted. His laughter curled on his lips, pleased. "Don't worry. I was easily the most infuriating student any teacher could ask for in high school. I never slept and I was always instigating class-wide debates in an attempt to stop them from actually teaching."

Thorne had been smart, no doubt there. But he'd also been infuriating. He could only imagine how much Chris would want to kill him if he had been a student of his. Gods knew his old teachers had.

He tilted his head at the answer, eyes lighting with interest. He wanted to ask why - why that date. But he felt like it was a prying question. Something that wasn't meant to be torn from Shiloh but rather - granted on his own terms. So he only smiled, the edge gentling a little, and turned his head to look out the window at the skyline and Ashdown at sunset.

"I can't even think of mine," he said. And it was true.
