"Hmmm.." Jaro narrowed his eyes before he walked ahead, going to close the yard gates, "I'll let it slide this time. But first infraction and it's hook hand."

He turned back from the chain link once it was closed and stuffed his gloves into his back pocket finally. Jaro seemed to be taking the path around the side that led to the workshop. It started to look less like a normal place the further back they got. More of his sculptures dotted the path, none of them new in the last 4 years it seemed, and the workshop itself eventually came into view by the back of the building.

There was some new equipment of course (he did accumulate shinies), but overall the layout would be similar to however Aodh remembered it. Complete with that particular smell.

Aodh started to notice the lack of new things. When he had been here last there was always something going on, some new project ... Things had been scrapped and remade and ...

"I'll be on my best behavior," he promised. Meant it as well. Aodhan had no desire for a hook hand. Whatever uneasiness that had remained faded when he smelled that familiar smell. Not that most liked the smell but he never minded it (and some part of him may have missed it).

"The new equipment looks good, Jaro." His eyes settled back on the other, lips turning down briefly. Mostly because of what he did not see.

"Can't fall behind.." It's not like much changed with blacksmithing technology, but for optimum scrap business there was also some machine that optimized what he did. The idea of being obsolete wasn't something he'd entertain.

It was a good thing he didn't focus on technology or he'd have a new phone and computer every week.

He moved into the workshop and sat at the worn stool he usually did, in front of work bench covered in pretty much anything shiny you can think of. He had a history of tinkering, doing unlisted jobs for people that knew him like watch repair or custom fittings for everything from plumbing to jewelry making. He'd been around, done many things, before he'd settled in the yard.

"Can you start tomorrow or do you want to wait until Monday?"

Aodh was moving around the workshop, pleased to see that there was some part of this that clearly showed there was work being done. The idea of Jaro not really working on new projects did not set right with him at all ...

"Hm?" He glanced up from where he was looking over a watch that had been opened up. "If you want? I actually am free today too." Aodh was dressed in what he would usually wear for coming out to work for Jaro. Except that he fit his clothing better instead of them hanging off of his thin frame.

"You can hang out today.." Jaro lifted his brows, "But no work until tomorrow."

Maybe he just wanted to enjoy the visit without pretense. Jaro hadn't had any actual company in a while. It would be nice not to be under some illusion of work.

"I was going to take a break anyway." His gloves were flopped on the work bench and his bandana was being pulled off his head to wipe his face. Jaro's hair as always was braided and tightly pulled back. "Maybe get something to eat."

"I've not eaten lunch yet," Aodh replied. The smile on his face was small, but it was easy and it was honest and not fake like all the other ones he could have given.

"... and it's been awhile since I've just hung out with someone just to hang out." The blonde shook his head, mostly at himself. "I've been working."

Jaro thumbed towards the house, a path that curled around the corner further through the trees. His house was actually small, not impressive at all really, and besides his sculptures around the lawn or hanging, glinting from the outside walls, it was a very simply small one floor building.

"What about college friends?" He had to have made some, "Girlfriend?"

Aodh froze mid-step, gray eyes widening and then he slowly, so slowly, shook his head.

That blush was spreading across his face all over again.

"No girlfriend." Then he realized there was more. "... not really many friends from college I want to keep up with either."

Jaro grinned at the blush but shook his head.

"That's no good. Friends are important. You're supposed to have all those crazy romantic adventures in college... Crazy parties and fights and-" Hand wave, "Whatever they say. Fraternities and crap."

The front door to the house was opened and the front sitting room looked as it ever did, draped with lush colors and stuffed full of things he'd collected. Paintings hung and leaned, bangles hung from things, surfaces were covered in coffee table books and decorations, and the only bare spots were the pillow covered sofa and the side table and coffee table directly in front where a hookah stood within reach. There was a flat screen mounted on the wall opposite but no game systems or anything. Just for watching.

The kitchen wasn't any less covered in kitsch, but the counters and appliances were clear enough to cook. "All I've got is sandwich stuff.."

"Didn't join a frat house, it was ..." Aodhan made a face - it was still pink - and then just sighed. "Too much trouble and for a thing I wasn't going to stick with ..."

His shoulders raised and then slumped.

"Why bother?" Not like there hadn't been offers or that people didn't want him too. He was just focused on school and boxing and then he wasn't. A switch was flipped and it was no longer making him happy like it had been.

"Did the boxing thing." Ignoring crazy romantic adventures, thanks. The inside of the house looked the same and that was reassuring and not at the same time. In some ways it was almost like he had never left. Except that they were both obviously older.

"Sandwiches are fine. Unless it's like that one time ..." When Jaro had forgotten the meat too long and it had gone bad because of a project. That had been a bad experience.

There was new accumulation of baubles in the last 4 years at least, some older things disappeared into piles or perhaps storage. Or perhaps some things had bored him and gotten sold, but that would be odd for the man who was very nearly considered a hoarder if not for his discerning taste.

"Didn't you enjoy boxing at all? I thought we had some decent fighters at that local gym?" Jaro didn't regularly work out but when he did he preferred the neighborhood gym over the one on frat row. It was a nice environment. He'd seen the owners teaching their various fighting and martial arts classes, and the flyers advertising around the neighborhood.

At the commentary about 'that one time' Jaro got a bit of a smarmy expression, "Are you going to sniff my meat?"

Aodh doubted seriously that Jaro sold anything that he was personally attached to. Not for a second.

"I did and when I was at the gym here I had fun." The neighborhood gym was one if the few places he felt at ease but he hadn't been back there either. Some part of him was worried that Sigurd or Llyr would take one look at him and be disappointed that he hadn't gone pro like he could have.

"College took the fun out of it," he paused, "and getting my bell rung a few too many times did too. I was loopy for a week the last time and I think I'd rather have my brain intact."

Aodh just shot him a look. "Considering I was sick for a week afterwards, just promise me you'll take care of me if I get ill again." Last time Jaro had laughed at his baby stomach and ... Well. Not again and not even thinking about what he said. "Not sniffing meat," he muttered.

"I'll sniff my own meat then.." Jaro smirked, digging lunchmeat out of the fridge. He sniffed it delicately before it was thrown down on the table. He did keep good food, but it was never more than munchie things like meats, cheeses, fruit and bread. He didn't do a lot of cooking, just continual snacking in vast quantities.

"Shame though.." He pulled mayo and mustard and sriracha out of the fridge next. Then bread.

Jaro smiled, "I would've like to see you knock someone out."

Jaro just got another look from Aodh, another moment of color finding his cheeks. Everything was an innuendo with the other man (or maybe he was just imagining it). Still with the meat on the table and apparently alright, the blonde was getting the bread. Same place as it had been before. Plates and cups as well.

He shifted and moved around the small kitchen without thought, as if it had not been four years since he had been here last. Aodh looked back over his shoulder with a small smile. "The best you can hope for is me sparring at the gym. I do like it, it's just not what I want to do with my life. Making a career of beating people up, of being beaten up ..."

The look on his face said what he thought about it now.

"What do you want to do for a living then?" Beating people up, getting beaten, had put him through college but what was the ultimate end of college if not using it? Flashing a degree around nowadays was no guarantee of going anywhere.

Jaro was, after the bread was taken out, building himself what some old folks would call a Dagwood sandwich. Or maybe a Shag & Scoob sandwich. As big as possible.
