Dris'rynne crosseed one leg under the other, hiding it beneath her asymmetrical skirt. She shifted a little to find a comfortable spot, and once it was achieved she kept working. The shifter wasn't too shy to hold the hilt in a firm grip before angling it just so she could see it. Others wouldn't do it because it placed them in a position to be cut; for Dris'rynne it was efficient and honestly, what was one cut compared to a fresh blade?

When she was finished with the parrying knife she reached for the closest blade atop the counter and started working on it as well.

Her gut instinct was to be defensively angry at his statement, but, Dris'rynne quickly dismissed it. Bitterly, mind you, but quickly. "If I said I was going to start giving you nicknames now I would be lying. As much of a blathering idiot I think you are, I do respect you, Tes. You do work hard, and that's honorable, but really, you need to learn how to keep your hands to yourself." It stung because while she begrudgingly respected him, the realization that he, among many others, didn't respect her burned. A small, one eyed shifter leading a mercenary group? It was a wonder they weren't laughed out of Oba. It was why she tried to be twice as hard, twice as dedicated and twice as shar-

Dris'rynne hissed and dropped the knife onto the counter. In her musings the stone had pressed too hard onto the blade, causing it to slip and bite into the muscle between her thumb and forefinger. Her hand butt, as her sisters called it. Instantly blood began to pour out and she balled up a length of her skirt before pressing against it.

He made it perhaps midway through dicing up sections of his long-dead prey before his attention diverted from his task and landed back on the woman currently keeping him company. She didn't sound overly pleased, and probably rightly so, but the more surprising part was what was actually said. And it likely took him an infuriatingly long time to process her words. He tipped his head quizzically, fingers stalling in their motions as he stared at her. "Keep my hands...?"

It was the only warning before he laughed. And laughed. And laughed like there was nothing more entertaining on this earth. Tes grinned cheekily at Dris'rynne with all apologeticness of a psychopath. "Why should I? I've been good. I've been calm and patient and given my life to making other people happy and comfortable. I've not actually hurt anyone. The things I want aren't available to me, anymore." He took a step toward her and leaned precariously close, dropping a hand to prop atop the crate she used as her perch. "So, no, I won't keep my hands to myself. And if it bothers you so..."

He edged forward, dusting his grinning lips to her hair and plucking at her injured hand, drawing it up toward him. "Maybe you ought to try a little harder to avoid me, Dris'rynne," Tes purred as he dipped to press his lips to the cut between her fingers.

She hadn't meant anything by it.

Nothing drastic anyway, but the one comment had been enough to unhinge the last vestiges of sanity Teslaron possessed. Dris'rynne's eye widened, matching the already edgy posture she had taken due to her injury. That laughter...It made her want to simultaneously run, and bring him into her arms. Teslaron was an odd man; a grieving, flirtatious, opinionated a** of a man, but she hadn't really realized how much that must have been covering. How much he'd had to give up just to get by...

...aren't available to me anymore. Dris'rynne visibly winced. That man, the one who'd passed away...Momentarily her gaze filtered down, hand slackening on applying pressure to her wound until she saw him move closer. The shifter snapped her eye back up to him, unconsciously moving her torso back and away from him.

She was experienced enough with men to be confident. Dris'rynne felt trapped, felt smaller than herself and her shoulders seemed to shrink, as if she were drawing herself in to protect herself. A little wisp of a whimper slipped out when his lips ghosted against her hair, and her breath caught. "...You're a free man now, Teslaron. I'm sorry about what happened to you, but dwelling on it won't bring him back and it won't give you the life you wanted." Her voice was small, but when she pulled her hand back from his lips it was so that she could bring him in for a hug with her good arm.

This side of him terrified her, but Dris'rynne wasn't a coward. She was smart enough to know that this was the parts of him that needed to be voiced, and dammit, if it was going to happen on her watch then she would help out however she could.

It wasn't until Dris'rynne's arm was around him that Tes realized with crippling clarity how ridiculously unappealing this whole affair was. This wasn't the mood he wanted to be in. It wasn't the mood he wanted to show to anyone else. It wasn't a mood that should exist at all, and gods this poor woman came here trying to be helpful. He swallowed. Sh was right, of course. Even Tes could understand that in some rational part of his mind. He couldn't change anything, and he shouldn't dwell on it.

But it was what he'd always done. Dwelled and plotted and forced things to work the way he wanted them to, and he'd been so close to having it all be just so. No past disappointment even came close to this one. That was a fact.

After a few very terse moments of silent and still, Tes edged his fingers down to her waist, settling there as a brace as he peeled himself away from her. His gaze dropped. "My apologies for making you uncomfortable. I shouldn't have made you stay. If you'd like, I can fetch you a bandage for your hand." He stepped back, skirted a hand down the length of his apron to smooth it, and took a breath.

When his gaze landed on her, he was smiling again. "But I think, for now, it would be best if you left."

Done unless you want an ending post

Dris'rynne was silent as he pulled away. She kept her gaze averted, trying to give him some space to compose himself. "I'll be fine." The wound had already stopped bleeding for the most part, and if need be she could rip off a length of her skirt, since it was already blood soaked at this point.

When she looked back up it was only after she'd slipped off the crate to stand. She nodded, and took a shaky, albeit steadying, breath. "Goodbye, Tes." Whatever it was that he was going through at that moment, it was clear he wanted to do it alone. And honestly, Dris'rynne wouldn't' have known what to say if he had told her to stay.

So it came to be that she slipped past him and left the kitchen, retraced her steps towards the door and left far quieter than she had entered.
