So her plan was working...
Sighing in relief Shadiya just leaned back against Dexurn as they zig-zagged through the hills. She could almost swear that in the distance she could hear the frustrated curses of the men who had lost their prize. And you'll never find me again... At least she prayed to the gods that was so. Closing her eyes in relief Shadiya listened as the Xaraan moved through the waters.
She owed this creature a lot...but it was not just the Xaraan who she owed, "Dexurn...thank you." The girl whispered quietly as they waded along, "You didn't have to risk yourself to come back to Oba, but you did...I'm forever in your debt." Even if she had managed to break her ropes without his help the girl would have probably been captured again easily. It was hard to outmaneuver men with weapons and beasts in this desert after all. Without Dexurn or the Xaraan....Shadiya shivered at the potential future that she had almost been snared into.

As Shade spoke again, Dex pulled on the straps to let the xaraan slow down and finally guided it back onto the land. He gave it a gentle pat for the bird to stop. With a small groan, he slid off to relief the poor thing, and helped Shade as well. Rather than letting her go when her feet hit the ground though, Dex held her firmly against him. "Yes, I did have to," he murmured. "I.. I couldn't have lived with myself if I hadn't tried. ..I told you we wouldn't go back to those lives, and I meant it."

Her cheeks flushed Shade laid her head against Dexurn's chest, "You..." Her heart fluttered at his words. He felt so strongly about protecting her? Would she have not done the same? The thought sent a shudder through her. The last thing the girl ever wanted was to see Dexurn suffer as well. She knew that in her heart should the boy ever need her that she would do anything to help him as well. If tonight had taught her one thing it was that she was not going to make such a capture ever so easy again.
"I'm sorry." She glanced up with a shimmering gaze, "I've been nothing, but trouble for you." Shade smiled faintly even though her heart twisted at the words, "Even so you went through so much to find me." A hand raised to lay against his cheek as she studied her dear friend's face, "Still, are you sure you would you mind staying with me? I feel like as long as we have each other that this life isn't so scary anymore." Tears started to trickle down her flushed cheeks as she waited for his response.
Being separated from him for those few days had been painful. But would he even feel the same? The thought made her stomach curl. What was wrong with her?

Despite the weight of his words, he didn't feel as though he'd anything amazing. It was what was in his heart... Of course, now that Shade was reacting to him, he was thinking about it. He really had spoken from his heart...
"Trouble?" Sighing, he shook his head. "I've never thought of you as troublesome. Ever." A hand lifted to brush at those falling tears. As he brushed her face, he felt a strange pull in his belly. It was one that had steadily been growing over time... He was exhausted from the running though. He knew Shade had to be tired as well. Now wasn't the time to discuss.. what might be happening...
Instead, he pulled her tight against him. "As long as we have each other.."

Even though he agreed and pulled her tightly against him Shadiya felt strange. Why was she both happy and disappointed at the same time? Blinking away the tears that continued to fall from her eyes, the girl sighed. Either way she was safe and she was so glad to have Dexurn with her. The thought brought a small smile to her lips as she nodded, "I'll hold you to that." She quipped lightly as she pulled away from him, "I just hope you don't change your mind about me being troublesome."
She smiled towards him, "Let's keep going and get out of Oba before anyone else catches up to us. I'm exhausted and I'm sure you are...maybe there'll be a small place to hide for the night." Shade reached out and taking his hand laced her fingers through his, "For uh...protection. Don't want to get separated in the dark, right?"
That stated the girl began to move forward with flushed cheeks.
They would leave Oba for now and things could sort themselves out later...right?

"I won't," he agreed, opening his arms to let her free. "Right. We need to tuck away somewhere. We're all tired." The xaraan was busy drinking from the river, and Dex licked his lips. After traveling without a full water sack, it would be good to replenish it here.
The fingers that laced with his own made him forget his thirst though. That pull in his belly... He loved the feeling of her hand in his own. He loved how she looked at him. He loved...
Who was he kidding. He'd never felt like this before, and he didn't know what tomorrow would bring... "Shade," he murmured softly, legs bracing to stop their movement. He didn't know what he was doing, but he found himself stepping closer to Shade, and gave her hand a squeeze. "Shade-I-love-you," he gasped out, leaning down to catch her lips with his own. He hoped he was doing this right... Whatever happened next, he wanted her to know...

Her mind in a haze from exhaustion and the knot in her chest, the girl stumbled as she found herself pulled backwards. "What's wrong?" She glanced back to Dexurn with a worried expression before his next actions managed to catch her completely by surprise. The smallest squeak of surprise left her throat, but as his lips captured hers the girl reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Dexurn loved her.
Those words untangled the strange feeling in her own chest as tears spilled down her face. These tears, however, were far more happier than the others she had shed today. Even if she didn't get a chance to reply with her own confirmation the girl's actions definitely testified to her strong feelings. It was strange how easily love could creep up on you. Shadiya hadn't even realized what the feeling was before, but now that Dexurn had her in his arms the girl felt that things were right. This was how things should be...and now that she was here with him the girl was even more determined to never let go.
In the morning she would try to sort out what this meant for them, but for now Shadiya lived in the moment. And for this moment all she cared about was that she was reunited with Dexurn and that he loved her. And that she....she loved him in return.
